Koboshi's Story
Last year I travelled from Sapporo through Hokkaido and Northern Honshu to Tokyo. Originally I planned to travel there in 2011 but because of the large earthquake and tsunami that devastated the coast of Tohoku, my travel plans were postponed. In our travels we did not visit heavily affected areas of the 3/11 disaster, but we did travel through Sendai and we stayed in the province of Fukushima in the snowy town of Aizu-Wakamatsu. The Okiagari-Koboshi could be seen at every tourist shop and temple. The cute traditional doll is designed so that it's weight causes it to return to upright if it is knocked over. It is a good luck charm, and a symbol of perseverance and resilience. The lovely owner of our Ryokan (traditional inn) sent us off with a couple Koboshi dolls for good luck. They are popular in the region of Aizu in Fukushima, and remind people that they can persevere against all odds, even in the face of something as disastrous as the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.

Welcome
Hello and welcome to Say Hello to my Little Friend. This blog will follow the adventures of little friends: those trinkets and miniature idols that have been found in interesting places or gifted graciously and are brought along for the ride to bring safety and good luck.
I'll be posting on behalf of my little friends and I hope you'll share photos and stories of your little friends and their adventures with me!
