Doomfist is not inherently "bad"
I have an idea after having read and processed Akande’s lore.
Akande is VERY bright and intelligent, charismatic and charming. Growing up he was raised in wealth and to work in business, and he was phenomenal in it. But his passion? Martial arts. He -loved- wrestling, fighting, etc. It was something he was not only very good at, but his tactical thinking and ability to plan came from a combination of his passion for martial arts and his work in business. He was competed all over his continent and working his way up, dreaming to be the best of the best, achieving his goals through hard work and effort.
All of that. That promise, of being good at something, having a feeling of belonging somewhere? Was entirely swiped from him. When he lost his right arm, he had cybernetics placed to replace his arm. If you look in the Doomfist trailer, his right arm looks near identical to his left, unlike McCree and Junkrat, who have very metallic looking prosthetics. He more than likely wanted to have something so realistic, that he could stay within competition guidelines in martial arts. Akande came back stronger, but the competitions deemed him as unable to compete any longer because his cynernetic enhancement disqualified him.
Akande lost EVERYTHING he was ever passionate about. He tried to recreate his passion and fill the hole within himself that used to have martial arts with business, and well… it wasn’t the same.
So basically, Akande was lost. He had this one dream, this one passion, and all he wanted was to make humanity better. To show humanity that through struggles, you can come out stronger. He more than likely wanted to be an inspiration for those in martial arts who lost limbs, but was shot down before he could share his dream with the world.
Had Overwatch reached out to Akande first, I feel the outcome would have been very different. Akande is a brilliant man that definitely belongs in Overwatch’s ranks. But instead, the second gen Doomfist, the Scourge of Numbani (who I personally believe was responsible for the Numbani attack that Efi had witnessed but I could be wrong), approached him and offered the idea that Akande could be a mercenary and fight with him. Everything that Akande thought he had lost… Everything that defined him and made him who he was, was finally going to matter. He had this idea to offer to the world, this passion and drive to make humanity better, and as his time went on with Talon, he felt it was conflict. Not only the outer conflict and chaos that helps humanity come up stronger, but come up together.
Akande’s ideology is not something that is inherently bad at all. I feel his intentions are good. But he was offered this plead from Adeyemi to join him in the generations of the Doomfist, and thus, Akande himself wore the title next. He became Doomfist, not necessarily taking on the name as an evil name, but from being able to suffer doom and despair, he was able to rise above all. His intentions though, were twisted, and he feels Talon can more closely help with his ideology of creating a better humanity through the suffering of the people.
Because if Akande came out stronger from his suffering, wouldn’t that be the answer to society’s problem to him? Akande is a living example of conflict making him a stronger person, so in his mind, it probably seems very logically sound. And he really isn't wrong. Each time humanity has gone through conflict, we HAVE grown stronger. But it's always a chance that could lead to our own destruction, something Akande is probably willing to risk to help humanity become a better place. After all, his family business was all about helping people and making them better.
