@The Gingerbread
âI have told him to not get her any more tennisballs, but he doesnât listen. Or at least if heâd get her the kindthat donât split in half when you step on them⌠that would help.âOr if he had gotten a less stupid dog, but that wasnât something thathe could say to Mr. Dawson. Besides, it wasnât Wendyâs fault that shehad been born stupid. After all⌠she was a poodle. She got thelooks and not the brains. It was unfortunate, but it couldnât reallybe helped.
Then it was Maisieâs turn to explain what she hadbeen up to for the past little while. He had tried to get Cami totell him a little bit, but Cami had been stubborn and had refused tosay anything unless it involved how hot Maisie was. âSo how hasMaisie been doing?â Sheâs hot. âWhat has Maisie been up to?âShe looks amazing in stilettos. âHave you heard anything fromMaisie?â She does not need a push up bra, but dudes like that.
In other words, she had been thoroughly unhelpful.
And nothing that Cami had said helped him figureout what to say now that everything had gone all awkward and silent.Luca picked up his coffee and took a long, slow sip, not really surewhat to say in these situations. This was when a pocket Cami wouldcome in handy. Or even a pocket Frankie.
Maisie was the first person to break the silence, saying that he didnât have to do⌠whatever it was that she thoughthe was doing. He looked down at his coffee, wondering if heâd beendrinking it funny or something. It was clarified pretty quickly whatshe meant â all of this. The hanging out, and all of that. Andapparently Maisie thought that Cami was behind this⌠which wasnâtentirely untrue.
âIâm not doing this because Cami told me to.Yeah, she gave me a little push, but we were friends before Cami camealong. I donât know what happened, but I really donât want to loseyou as a friend, Mais. So I thought that this,â he said, gesturingvaguely at all of everything, âwould at least be a start.â
Maisie took a long pause after hearing what Luca have said.He was right, they were friends before Cami and they were friends before shestarted liking him. But the fact that all they could ever be are friends. Lucajust sees him as a friend and nothing more, which Maisie has heard from himdirectly. It was a sad fact that Maisie needs to accept, and avoiding Lucawouldnât make it any better.Â
âYouâre right⌠Iâm sorry. Itâs just thatâŚâ All along Maisiewas looking down at the table and she slowly began to look at Lucaâs eyes. âIdonât want forcing you into something that you donât really like,â she saidapologetically. âAnd you donât have to worry that youâll lose me as a friend,it wonât happen.â Maisie smiled genuinely, assuring him. Even though it hurtsher to know all she could be to him is a friend, she wouldnât want to risktheir friendship just because of that.Â
She seems to think so. But I think that she thinks that I do everything wrong, so. Not entirely surprising.
Iâm sure Cami just misses you. What did you do wrong anyway?
What is the best part of being a tour guide?
Getting to get to know more people and having the chance to show them everything about my hometown.
FMK: Cami, Frankie, Luca
Luca copped out on this one so I might as well do.
@The Gingerbread
luca-dm:
Tik-tok, tik-tok, tik-tok.
Oh he had totally just been stood up.
Did it actually count as being stood up, sincetechnically speaking he hadnât really given Maisie a whole lot oftime to respond to his invitation. It wasnât like heâd give her daysto think about it. More like minutes, so maybe it didnât count asbeing stood up. And there was something about the term âstood upâthat seemed odd to Luca in this situation. That seemed to imply thatthere was something more to this than just getting coffee⌠and thiswas just coffee. Right? It was definitely just coffee.
Speaking of coffee, he really hoped Maisie showedsoon. It would really suck if the coffee he had ordered her wentcold. It was his proverbial olive branch to mend whatever stupidthing he had inevitably done to make Maisie avoid him like theplague, or like he was a leper, or like he had a third arm growingout of his forehead or something. Which really just soundedunfortunate when you thought about it.
Even though he would never admit to being fidgetywaiter, Luca felt very fidgety. He was beginning to wonder if thiswhole thing had been an absolutely terrible idea when Maisie showedup, looking perky and as cheerful as ever. He silently wished thewrath of all middle school students on Cami, who had led him tobelieve that Maisie was most likely an absolute mess and that it wasabsolutely one hundred and ten percent his fault and that he neededto fix it.
Oh, well. Heâd managed to lure Maisie out ofwherever sheâd been hiding, so the wrath of middle schoolers wouldhave to wait.
âHey!â Luca greeted Maisie back, pushing thecoffee drink that had apparently been hiding behind the napkin holderover at Maisie. âMy treat, eh? I got your usual.â Luca grinned, reaching for his own coffee and taking a sip and wondering if theweird feeling in his stomach was predicting an awkward silence.
Damn, heâd really done something, hadnât he?
Maisieâs question at least averted the crisis ofan awkward silence. âIâm doing pretty good, actually. I had tosurgically remove half of a tennis ball from Mr. Dawsonâs poodleagain, but that isnât exactly unusual.â Mr. Dawsonâs poodle, Wendy, was kind of stupid. To put it nicely. âAnd I did talk to Cami, earlier today actually.â He said, shrugging. âShe seems to bedoing pretty good â still dealing with the gremlins that are middleschool students, but I suppose that kind of comes to be expected withCami.â Taking another sip of his coffee, he asked, âWhat aboutyou? Whatâve you been up to for the past⌠little while?â
Maisie was a bit surprised Luca knew her favorite drink atthe Gingerbread, but then it wouldnât be hard to guess since itâs the drink sheorders every time they go there for a drink. The awkward silence took place fora while before Maisie decided to break it and asked about him and Cami.Â
The brunette was happy to hear Luca that he was been doingpretty good, though her facial expression became a bit sad when she heard aboutMr. Dawsonâs poodle. âReally? Oh my god, poor Wendy. Itâs been like her what, third or fourth time? Mr Dawson should really take care of her or else it wouldhappen again,â Maisie blurted out worriedly. A part of her missed visiting Lucain his office as she usually assists him at times when he has to do somesurgery. As Luca continued, Maisie learned that he and Cami talked earlier. Shechuckled lightly when he mentioned about her middle school students which Camialways refers as the âgremlinsâ. Then it suddenly hit her. What if Cami toldLuca to ask her for a coffee? Knowing the female, it was a possibility, and wasvery much likely to happen. That was why she convinced Maisie to go. Cami setthem up again. All those speculations running on her mind right now made hermissed Lucaâs question which she has to ask him to repeat before she couldanswer.Â
âOh, me? Well Iâve been doing great, and a bit busy... Iguess. I had a few groups of foreigners I toured around the town just thisweek, and then customers at the pastry shop suddenly increased so we have tomake sure someone watches the shop during peak hours,â Maisie told Luca before takinga sip of her cup of coffee. It was obviously a lie as she just spent most ofher time in her room lately. She just needed a good excuse why she hasnât beenseeing him for quite some time now. The awkward silence took place again butbefore it becomes longer, Maisie spoke up again. âYou know⌠You donât have to dothisâŚâ She shrugged, looking back at Luca. âI mean⌠Cami set this up again, right? I just donât like forcing you into this if you donât really like itâŚâÂ
How was your valentines?
I spent it being nagged via text and skype by a certain midget Latina. I love said midget Latina, but that doesnât make the eighty billion texts and more appreciated.
Cami nagged you last Valentines? Why? Did you do something wrong?
what's your favorite dessert?
Cami is telling me to say chocolate. I really like this caramel pastry thing they have at the Gingerbread. Cami tells me I have no soul for not liking chocolate. I like chocolate. I just like the pastry things better.
Why not have both then? Chocolate pastry desserts are the best ones!
Chocolate or vanilla?
CHOCOLATE. No questions asked.
What's the deal with you and Luca?
Weâre very good friends, nonny.
What is your favourite season?
Oh wow, thatâs a good question! I love winter because thatâs the time Pine Valley gets filled with tourists, but then I suck at ice skating and skiing so itâs a love hate relationship.Â
