94hobi's WINGS theory
this is the first time i’ve ever created a serious theory. i love short films/short stories and analyzing them, even if it’s totally wrong. to be fair, the last class i took that relates to this was junior year ap english so please take what i say with a grain of salt, as you should with everything.
let’s start with simple points.
> the fire in his dreams means that jungkook is feeling exhausted or passionate
> the angle of the camera where he’s looking at the pic of yoongi is called the angle of destiny (ish because it’s rather diagonal) which means that drawing of yoongi is really important.
> the angles jungkook is shown from tell the viewer that he is either weak or having fluctuating self confidence issues, perhaps due to his artwork or seemingly reoccurring night terrors.
> the car crash at the beginning could be alluding to the end of the run music video, perhaps he is dead and this room is his purgatory/heaven/hell. personally, i think it’s purgatory, as it’s very barren and dark.
> when the bed, canvas, and light fixtures all begin to move on their own, to me, it’s clear that jungkook feels an extreme lack of control in his life (or afterlife?)
> in dreams, rain symbolizes an emotional release, the bringing forth of creativity, or a dark forshadowing. in literature, rain simply symbolizes negative emotions. however, jungkook begins to cry, leading me to believe that the rain is pathetic fallacy.
> the close shot of jungkook’s hand holding the paintbrush shows the viewer that the painting is something of importance to jungkook, but his hesitance is holding him back from completing the painting. perhaps this is symbolic of jungkook’s hesitancy to move on with his life.
> assuming the painting is representative of his life (it’s of taehyung though hahahahah taehyung is his life) which bursts into flames, i’m 100% lead to believe that jungkook is dead here and because the painting will never be finished, his life ended abruptly.
> now i’m not very good at art history or interpreting art but as the colours begin to change on the painting and jungkook begins to be afraid, perhaps someone took control of his life for him and… murdered him?
> who was driving that godforsaken car in run… who killed my boy…
> he drops the drawing of yoongi in a close shot, but i don’t know why. did yoongi hurt him enough to make him say goodbye? was yoongi driving that car? was jungkook upset that yoongi had a drinking problem? it’s known that yoongi took his anger out violently so maybe jungkook leaving him was the last straw?
> the lights change from cold to warm. this is symbolic enough in and of itself. good things are to come.
> black tears on painting of taehyung… close shot of taehyung’s eyes looking directly at the viewer… is taehyung bad? dead?
> flocks of birds symbolize good fortune! speaking of the birds, let’s do it now. when jungkook picks up the fallen drawing of yoongi, there is a bird in its place. there is also a bird on his shirt. both of these birds’ wings are spread. birds symbolize freedom, and perspective.
> going back on my previous point, if this room truly is jungkook’s purgatory, the birds tell the viewer he’s not going to stay there for long.
> the doors open, revealing a bright light, which i think is alluding to heaven, and jungkook’s wings are those of an angel’s. this is also a very VERY strong angle of destiny.
> leit motifs: namjoon quoting h. hesse which i seriously don’t understand. jungkook’s lines in tomorrow, which is a piece about feeling a lack of control. ominous whistling? sorrowful music when taehyung is burning. hmm.
> in conclusion, i believe that jungkook was murdered, has a lack of control and understanding, two other members were very significant in his physical life, his passions haunt him, taehyung haunts him, and now he’s an angel.
> other point #1: why is there a pic of j.cole?
> other point #2: his wings look like he’s team mystic.
Okay guys but what if jungkook is kafka tamura??
like I’m seeing so many parallels with Jungkook’s character.
like in hyyh, Jungkook is a boy that ran away from home. In the short film, Jungkook’s shadow was a crow (possible allusion to “the boy named crow”)
in hyyh, taehyung killed his own father. in kafka on the shore, kafka’s soul is transferred to a man named Nakata who kills Kafka’s father (an artist) and thus fulfills part of the prophecy. And in the short film, Jungkook stands before a painting (possibly made by his “father”) that becomes bloodied and destroyed
and then as said before, the opening lines from the short film is from the novel Demian who has a similar concept to Kafka On The Shore ( murder, youth, and a young boy)
so obviously the hyyh concept is based on several different novels but this parallel with Jungkook to Kafka Tamura is so strong asdfghjkl
