Heroines of Olympus! I wanted to revisit the armor I designed for them about two years ago. I missed drawing these babes!

A while ago I heard a version of this story where Athena has pity on Medusa and turns her into the gorgon to protect her from all men. A gift instead of a punishment for her brother’s crimes.

It always stuck with me, so here’s a doodle.

#i wrote a twenty page paper on modern interpretations of rape mythology#in the end of it i concluded that it didnt really matter what the orginal intentions of this story were#not only because its foolish to say we even have acess to the orginial story#but because mythology is not an antique it is a living thing and it breaths and grows with each rereading and#each reader as well#which is where i feel it gets its real power#anyway i love this and all its tenderness very much#the greek gods were not tender but the people who have told and retold their stories are (hymnandher)

I have never thought that I could have such a happy feeling in this winter. Here art blog is my first challenge to say hello to people in the world. I was worried about whether it would go ok. I have not been drawing this one for Christmas. So I’m sorry if I break the mood of Christmas. I really really hesitated to post it. But I love chapter 51, the Lost Hero trio. This is my appreciation for the wonderful books, for sending the last book of HoO to Japan finally. It’s the best Christmas Present for me.
