”You don’t love me.”

It’s not the first time that he’s hearing that. Jongin has told him countless times, sometimes whispering, sometimes yelling, sometimes crying. It makes Sehun feel bad every time and he scrambles for explanations although Jongin should know.

Being a genie, it is in Sehun’s nature to help. Jongin is his priority, but Jongin can’t fully bind him. Sehun feels like he’s going crazy whenever he spends more than a month in a place. He needs to go out, always on the search of someone who might need his help, and more often than not, he disappears for days before returning home to his waiting boyfriend.

“But I do love you, Jongin,” Sehun whispers. This time, too, he cradles Jongin into his arms, rocking the other’s body side to side. It hurts him to hear Jongin’s accusing tone, it hurts him to see Jongin’s tears, and it hurts him to feel Jongin’s body slumping against his, losing all strength to keep his composure. He can tell that Jongin is exhausted, and it’s all his fault - because Sehun can’t make Jongin feel and understand that Jongin is always his number one priority, no matter how desperately he tries to prove it.

Jongin is, by far, the most important person in his life. It is hard to convince Jongin of that when he isn’t around 24/7, but he has hoped that Jongin would understand. And Jongin did reassure him back then that he understood. Born a genie, Sehun can’t help but disappear on his missions to validate his existence. If not for granting wishes and bring happiness to people who deserve it, Sehun wouldn’t be living now. He is a creature that has been formed for solely that reason.

And yet, Sehun has failed the one person that he should never disappoint - Jongin, his boyfriend, the love of his life. And with every time that Jongin accuses him of not loving him back, of cheating on him because Sehun is too friendly with others, Sehun feels more and more useless.

Sehun is a genie. He should be bringing happiness, but all that he can give Jongin is sorrow, and he doesn’t know how to fix it.

“I’m sorry for failing you,” is what he whispers to Jongin that night, when his lover has fallen asleep right next to him. “I’m sorry for being the reason you’re hurt. I’m sorry for walking into your life and making you feel more miserable instead of making it better.”

He failed him horribly, and as much as Sehun tries to figure out how to solve this, he can’t come up with a solution that is not drastic.

“You’re such an idiot.”

Sehun can only smile at those words. It’s a bitter smile, because Soojung is right. Sehun has been an idiot, but he is not going to continue being an idiot for longer. He might be hurting, but at least Jongin isn’t anymore - not because of Sehun, that is.

Sehun returned to the genie realm that same night, begging the elders to nullify his bond with Jongin. They are divorced now, nothing binding them together, except for the feeling of love that Sehun still harbors in his heart. But Jongin shouldn’t be feeling that. If his genie magic is working properly - it should, even on an immortal being with his own set of supernatural powers - then Sehun is completely erased from Jongin’s heart. Jongin won’t have to feel sad about him anymore, and now it’s only Sehun nourishing his broken heart. One side hurting is better than having both suffering, right?

“I’m fine with this,” Sehun mumbles quietly, more to convince himself than Soojung. “At least I still get to be his guardian angel. I can still watch him from here and make sure that he’s doing okay.”

“But what if he’s not okay? You didn’t even ask him. You’re pulling the same stunt on him twice,” Soojung murmurs, her hand on Sehun’s shoulder squeezing tightly. “What if he still remembers? What if he asks you to come back?”

“I seriously don’t know,” Sehun replies quietly, although the answer is as clear as day. He would return to Jongin’s arms any time. Jongin just needs to call him and he would be back, because that’s all his existence has been reduced to.

Sehun is a genie. He lives for fulfilling people’s wishes, but at the whisper of his name by Jongin’s lips, he would leave everything to be by Jongin’s side. Because he truly loves Jongin, only, Jongin doesn’t know, because Jongin never put his faith in him. For some reason, Jongin has never called him to come back, so Sehun has never been able to prove his love. But it’s not like that could happen in the future, right? Because Sehun has erased all traces of himself from Jongin’s memory. If they ever meet, Sehun would be nothing but a stranger to Jongin.

It’s really hard for Jongin to put into words everything of just how much Sehun means to him. Not even just as a boyfriend– but as a best friend too. Jongin is an avid watcher of dramas so he knows the perks and benefits of dating someone you’ve known for a while and who knows you well. It’s amazing to think months and months ago they had not even been this close and Jongin had been less honest with his feelings. For Jongin, he sees now it was really inevitable to like someone like Sehun. Sehun might try to convince him he has some flaws but Jongin only ever sees the selflessness, thoughtfulness, and sincerity the genie shows him on a daily basis. He is very glad Sehun agreed to try to date him. Who knows where they’d be if he had not? They come from vastly different places but that’s what is truly amazing. In any other scenario they probably wouldn’t have ended up like this. But they had and Jongin likes to think that is fate.

His hand reaches out and he laces his fingers through Sehun’s. Smiling fondly, Jongin knows his face probably glows with approval as he grins thumb brushing over the palm of the other’s hand. “How can I fight back when I want to give you everything you want?” He laughs with a tilt of his head. Of course this means that Jongin basically caves in too much when they bicker over the things they do on a daily basis. (Jongin wants fried foods and Sehun wants gormet foods– Sehun will win 9/10 times.) Truthfully, Jongin doesn’t mind. Even if they’re small things Jongin is willing to give them up for even a few seconds of Sehun’s happiness. (And Jongin shouldn't’t be eating fried foods anyway.)

Jongin had been a little nervous to ask Sehun to move in. Despite being very comfortable with him now he still didn’t know how genies did the entire courting thing. (If only he knew they were genie-married.) He knows there will be ties Sehun has to preform his duties and cannot be with him. So he wants to monopolize all the time he can be next to Jongin. They already spent almost every second with each other. Why not solidify it?

His grin is infectious as he smiles brighter opening the box tentatively. He does not expect the plush but he should have known. Jongin takes it out and hugs it to his chest experimentally as he gives the other a look. “Are you trying to tell me something?” He jokes. “That I eat too much fried chicken?” He drawls out as he leans and gives the other an affectionate peck. “I will treat it will with love because it’s my second favorite thing after you.” Of course he does not think to check the center of it

“So cheesy,” Sehun mutters, but his smile is fond when their fingers are laced. He doesn’t actually mind Jongin being sweet, even if it’s not how Sehun has thought Jongin and him would forever be. After all, they started out as two best friends, bickering and arguing over the most stupid things at all times. When did they change and become this?

It’s probably after the two year long break that they’ve started anew. After a confession and two years of not seeing each other, things are bound to change. Sehun has realized his own feelings slowly over the course of time spent together, and trying out the dating thing has proved to be one of the best decisions Sehun has made. He feels truely happy now, not in the way he feels satisfied after seeing someone smile and full of gratitude after he has helped them with their wish, but in a way he has never felt before. It’s different, this kind of happiness he feels, it’s his own personal happiness and it’s a thrilling thing.

“So do I live at your place starting right now?” Sehun asks, grin growing wider as he leans closer to his boyfriend. “What are the pups and Prince Baek going to say if a chicken leg plush toy is now second place after they had to give up their number one spot for me?”

“What did you think I would be like if we dated or did you never think about it?” He asks with a small smile. “I must be a sweet and attentive boyfriend if I want to keep you from thinking about anyone else other than me, right?” He also does not want to admit that there is no way he could treat Sehun anything other than amazing. He’s the guy he happens to love – so it comes with the territory of being ridiculously cheesy after such a long time he repressed his feelings the best he could.

When the other wraps the scarf around him as well he smiles brightly - cheeks warm from both the cold and the other’s actions as he moves closer, using the shared scarf as an excuse as he squeezes Sehun’s hand. Their shoulders knock together lightly because Jongin refuses to detach him from Sehun’s side far enough to keep any space between them. Jongin feels warm and fuzzy and happy – so many emotions wrapped carefully in one. Mostly, he feels love. Gratitude along with that love. And an understanding that Sehun will always be his best friend before he is anything else to him.

He thinks this will probably be his best Christmas he has had – well, in forever. It’s an evening he knows he will enjoy a lot. Previous years he had spent it with coworkers but never really anyone super important to him. So this year holds a new meaning for him: a year full of promises and adventures he hadn’t ever had the opportunity before. A year full of Oh Sehun and Kim Jongin. He smiles at that thought.

Christmas Eve was stressful. Jongin has to come up with the perfect first gift. He easily picks each of his dogs a pretty pink sweater and a treat. Elsa gets some fancy tuna and a new collar. Unfortunately, he had to be a lot more creative for Sehun. So when passes his carefully decorated card with two tickets laying waiting inside he smiles sheepishly. “It’s not much but I wanted to find something you wouldn’t expect. Finding a gift to get you is hard so instead I opted to get you memories. Those will last forever.” He says. He had gotten them both tickets to Gyeongju since coming up he will have a break from performances. He wants noting more than spend time with Sehun. “Also, I have something to ask you.. I guess it’s not really a gift but I wanted to know if you wanted to move in? I mean it’s no different than how it is now since we spent all our free time together.” He smiles coyly. “My dogs need their second parent around~ And Elsa needs another sane person in the apartment.”

If Sehun is honest, he has never thought about how it would be to be dating Jongin. He has always just thought about how it would be like to not have Jongin by his side, or more like to not have the reassurance that Jongin would always be there so he could go bother his best friend at any time. And even when it was clear that Jongin had romantic feelings towards him, Sehun had never thought about how it might be if he agreed to start dating Jongin. He had neither knowledge nor imagination on how living as a couple should be, but now that he is actually experiencing it, he is able to reply. Dating means holding hands and spending time together, sweet words and even sweeter kisses. It’s the cuddling and kissing that Sehun likes the most, though Jongin keeps trying to do his best to entertain him and find different places to spend their time together, while Sehun thinks nowhere is better than home - despite being a genie known for preferring an adventurous nomad-like life. But since Jongin is his home now, everywhere Jongin goes, Sehun will follow.

“I never thought about it,” Sehun replies. “I just thought thinks would be the same. You’d still be the same idiot Jongin who is easy to tease, except we kiss and cuddle a lot more. But now you’ never fight back anymore, instead you just say very cheesy things.” That is his observation though he knows that Jongin isn’t the only one who has changed. Sehun has changed, too, he goes out on his own a lot less, and the words he directs at Jongin aren’t as mocking anymore. He is a lot nicer to Jongin and doesn’t play as many pranks as before. But does Jongin like those changes, he wonders, or does Jongin prefer the more mischievous side to Sehun?

He takes the card Jongin gives him and opens it, smiling when he reads the little message that comes with the two tickets for Gyeongju. Sehun has been there before, but Jongin doesn’t need to know that. More importantly, back then he was alone on one of those group package tours that had been nice, but somehow Sehun hadn’t felt too good joining a group of humans and having to stick to the group when he wanted nothing more than to wander around and discover things on his own. With Jongin, that would be possible.

“Thank you,” he whispers and leans in, pressing a peck on Jongin’s lips. “And I’d love to. Someone needs to protect Prince Baek,” he chuckles, but Jongin probably knows that Sehun mainly stays over at night to cuddle in bed. He figures it’s better to stay together at one place and not waste living space in a metropole where people are constantly on the search for a place to stay. “I’ll terminate the contract with the landlady and I’ll move over my stuff to your place. You’ll have to make space in your closet. I have lots of clothes."

Grinning, he snaps his fingers for a huge box to appear, obviously containing his present for Jongin. He has been thinking a lot what he could get his boyfriend, and in the end he got tickets for a ballet show that he has hid inside a plush toy in the shape of a chicken leg, knowing that Jongin likes both fried chicken and cuddling, so for the rare times when he’s not able to be home with Jongin, his boyfriend could hug the pillow and think of him while waiting for Sehun to return home.

One among Sehun’s favorite pastimes is to prepare surprises and presents for the ones he loves. Maybe it’s a genie thing, the trying to make and keep people happy thing, engraved in his heart and mind. So when it’s close to Jongin’s birthday, he starts thinking about all the possibilities he has to gift Jongin with the greatest birthday he’s ever had in his life so far.

He knows that to Jongin, birthdays have never been important. It's a thing they have in common as immortals. When time is endless, celebrating one's birthday seems superfluous as age is not as valued as it is for humans. Though, for Jongin there might be other reasons, too, such as the loathing he feels for himself, though Sehun hopes that part has been reduced. He really wishes that Jongin is happy, not because they are dating, but because Jongin deserves that. He's been a good friend and a good person, so Sehun wants to show just how much he appreciates Jongin's existence.

Maybe it's because they've been staying on earth for so long that Sehun is starting to adapt to their environment. He has become somewhat human - easy to excite for human traditions and culture - and thus celebrations and festivities are becoming a part of his life, too.

"Jonginnie," Sehun whispers early in the morning. "Jonginnie, I have a few things to do today, so I'll be back later, okay? I will probably not come visit you during lunch today." He's not sure if Jongin is awake and coherent enough to understand him, but Sehun pecks his lips as a quick goodbye nonetheless. He disappears after that, a note on the fridge telling Jongin they'll only see each other later at night.

Sehun wants to throw a birthday party, but since they both have a very small circle of friends, he thinks maybe it would be better to celebrate alone, just the two of them, together with their pups and Prince Baek. But to do that, he will have to prepare lots of good food, and he needs a birthday present, too. It's hard to find a present that is meaningful because anything Jongin wants, Sehun can conjure it up within the blink of an eye - anything materialistic that is. It's easy to get a present like that, but it's not meaningful because it's done effortlessly, meanwhile Sehun wants to put his heart and all in whatever he gives Jongin. That is why he's pushing a shopping cart in front of him, filling it with ingredients for cake and different meals he will prepare later today to spoil his boyfriend with what he hopes is the best food he's ever had in his life.

He takes his time with grocery shopping, so by the time he's home, Jongin is already at work. The pups greet him enthusiastically, and Sehun has a hard time bringing the groceries inside without tripping over the dogs and spilling all the bags' contents over the floor. He's only glad that Prince Baek isn't joining the other pets in ambushing him, a thing he is forever thankful for. Cats are better than dogs, he still thinks, but he has warmed up to Monggu and Jjangga by now, too, thinking of his babies.

He spends the whole morning baking cake and preparing as much as possible for dinner later so he would only have to do the cooking, not the cutting and washing ingredients anymore. The cake's still cooling down, so Sehun puts it up somewhere out of reach for the dogs before he leaves to go buy a present. Cake and dinner are part of the present, but if he leaves it just by that, Sehun feels like it's not enough. There ought to be something he could get for Jongin, something small, maybe, but something meaningful that Jongin could look at sometimes and smile because it reminds him of Sehun. Something that makes the feeling of missing his other half a bit less bad when Sehun is not at home.

He spends hours walking around the shopping districts, and yet Sehun can't find something suitable. There's nothing that seems to be meaningful enough to gift Jongin, and he almost loses hope - it's about time for him to head home and start cooking - but then he catches sight of something he's never seen before. It looks pretty, so he enters the little shop, so small he almost hadn't noticed, to get a closer look of the thing. It turns out to be a dreamcatcher, and although the feathers decorating it being a soft, almost whitish pink, he still thinks it's pretty. Jongin will like it, he thinks, when the vendor explains to him the purpose of dreamcatchers. He knows Jongin has nightmares at times, so wouldn't this be a perfect present?

When he's home, there's not much time left. Sehun decorates the cake while the food is cooking on the stove, the present already wrapped in blue wrapping paper with a pretty white bow. And when he turns off the stove, that's when he hears the pups barking excitedly, signalling Jongin's home.

Smiling, Sehun goes to greet his boyfriend by the door, pressing a peck on Jongin's cheek to say hi. "Dinner's almost ready," he whispers. "Go put away your bag, I'll be waiting in the kitchen he says," hopping off in the direction of the kitchen where he sets the table as quick as possible, before he sits down, beamng as he awaits Jongin's entrance and his reaction to what looks like a 5 course dinner with birthday cake on top, his hands holding the present.

"Happy birthday," he says when the door opens and Jongin enters, the surprised expression and the wide smile that follows after almost too much for Sehun's heart. It hurts a bit, the way it beats against his ribcage, the way it wants to burst with what he feels for Jongin. "I love you, Jongin. Happy birthday to you."

He takes a long sip of his coffee as he eyes the other over. Tall. Straight eyebrows that kind of the give the illusion of a stern expression but he does not seem so. Instead he seems friendly enough with no bad intention. Junha by nature is a curious person. He’s a bit of a skeptic when it comes to believing in the supernatural but if he and his ability are allowed to exist why are things like genies not allowed to? His nose wrinkles a little. “So how does it work? Do I get three wishes or something?” He asks with a tilt of his head. If he ever got to wish for something he is not sure where he would begin. He was relatively happy as a person could be. He might wish for more friends but those are things he really shouldn’t have to wish for. After all, wouldn’t it be bring upon misfortune to waste a wish that way? Maybe he has watched too many Disney movies but naturally he is very nosy about the other. “How do you just appear? Do you know when someone needs something or do they have like an ad in the phonebook?” He asks and pauses. “Real talk though, how do I know you’re just not crazy?” It’s probably not polite of him to ask that way but Junha couldn’t be too sure these days. “Can you make that cup hover? Would that count as one of my wishes? Do I even get any wishes?”

Sehun has had the luck to meet many different people during his journey on earth, and thus, the other's curious and borderline impolite ways and questions did not faze him much. Only yesterday he has met a client, not much different to Junha in front of him, doubting his abilities, and it has ended with Sehun going home and not fulfilling the man's wish at all, simply because he didn't deem it appropriate to gift someone with all the riches in the world who did not have any plans to use it for something good. Genies in fairy tales and movies might do that, but genies like Sehun, free ones that were raised and trained to bring out the good in people, could not do that. Surely, Sehun would give a hand, helping humans to further develop themselves and discover their whole potential, but if they don't have any intentions on using their skills or newly attained gift for any good, then Sehun would vanish into thin air, leaving the client on his or her own.

"Look," Sehun starts after a long sigh. "If you called me here just for fun, then I'll go take my leave. I don't have much time, there's a lot of other things I could do instead, more productive things." Such as returning to his boyfriend to kiss and cuddle, but that the other didn't need to know. Genies aren't as needed today as they have been centuries ago. That, coupled with the increase of people harboring egoistic wishes decreased the number of people a genie like Sehun could and would help, so instead Sehun spends most of his day fulfilling all of Jongin's (and his own) wishes.

"So either you tell me why I've been summoned and we get straight to business, or we'll end it here".

If your muse was asked, how would he or she say their New Year’s Eve was?

New Year's Eve doesn't feel much different from any other day, except for the fireworks at midnight and people being somehow more cheerful, more motivated because a new year is going to start soon, a new chance to make it the best year of their lives.

For Sehun it's simply interesting to see the changes in spirits around him and he tries to understand but it's difficult. He's not mortal like humans so he doesn't value time as much. He doesn't really pay attention to time units, so to him it does not matter if a new year's starting or not - he doesn't age and he's not closer to the end of his life. And it's the same with the people most important to him. But if he had a mortal friend, a human friend, would things be different to him then?

What is the biggest goal your muse has set for 2016? Are there any developments that you, the typist, have planned for your muse?

Sehun doesn't have any goals, unless you would call continuing to live the same way he's done before a real goal.

As for me, the mun, I haven't really planned any developments for Sehun as of yet, I just want to continue roleplaying, hopefully more actively than the last year, and maybe find some friends for Sehun.

What relationships has your muse gained and lost going in to the new year? How has it — or will it — affect him/her?

Since I haven't been active much the past year there's not much that has happened. Most of the relationships he has gained, Sehun has lost again as those are mere acquaintences coming and going. The only significant change that has happened is that his best friend has become his lover, but apart from that, his group of friends remains incredibly small, everyone else only belonging to the category of acquaintances.

There are a few things Jongin knows with certainty now. He has liked people in the past and even admired them for qualities he finds attractive - both boy and girl, because in the end it does not matter one bit to Jongin - but, he’s ever found someone quite like Sehun. Or someone who makes him feel like Sehun does. Jongin is a literal walking reflection of how Sehun makes him feel. The small dorky smile that makes Jongin’s cheeks hurt and warm is just a small testament to how completely content he is with their relationship.

He feels understood; which for Jongin was a hard thing to feel, since he’s constantly reminded of the differences that lay between him and, well - everyone else in existence. He likes best the dynamics between the two. Sehun can be pliable at times but he also makes it known he is never going to be walked over - not that Jongin would try. He can handle Jongin when he is grumpy from lack of sleep and also when he’s ready to snuggle Sehun never letting go despite the other’s complaints. Sehun will accept him when he is serious and evidently, more often when he is not.

His fingers wrap around the other’s hand. He doesn’t much care if anyone stares or thinks it’s odd. He much rather do everything he wants with Sehun than contemplate how it might be seen. He has nothing to be ashamed about and certainly, doesn’t want to waste any second even if he has a long forever waiting for him. “Cheesy is a Jongin thing. Didn’t you know?” He asks with a small smile. He feels like most of the time he cannot stop smiling when he is with the other male.

He has a long list of things he wants to do on their first Christmas. But he will settle for a few things so he doesn’t traumatize Sehun too much with how repressed Jongin is having never spent a Christmas with anyone else before. He is not even sure other immortals share the sentiment Jongin does about it. He wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t.

“Good.” Jongin says. “Let’s go through the park so we can see the lights then go home—” home, he’s been saying that a lot lately and it feels ecstatically good. “We can defrost our bodies in front of the heater.”

"I didn't know that Jongin would come with an extra portion cheese when I agreed to date," Sehun says with a grin. It's enough to show that he doesn't mind at all, no, on the contrary. Sehun could be just as cheesy as Jongin is at times and maybe that makes them an ideal couple, too as they can tolerate each other's quirks and odds. Sehun doesn't think that any other non-genie would put up with him after experiencing a genie having a cold and sneezing up one catastrophe after the other, actually, not even all genies would endure that, but yet Jongin was still there, strong and not moving from his position next to him. Like a rock, Sehun thinks, only much softer, warmer and sweeter.

They spend the rest of their walk in a comfortable silence, simply enjoying each other's presence. They reach the park in no time, two tall men with long legs are quicker on their feet than other couples, but just like all the other love birds in the park, they stare at the light installation with the same awe. At some point Sehun unwraps the scarf around his neck to loop it around both their necks. It's a bit difficult walking like that but the wool scarf is long enough to wind it around both of them twice. Sehun is not too worried that he might catch another cold in this season, arguing with Jongin that he's wearing a warm turtle neck and a thick coat either way and that Jongin, too, needs to be dressed warmly.

They go home once they've made a round, spending more time there than planned but Sehun doesn't comply. He likes walking around with his boyfriend like that, stealing quick pecks in the dark whenever he thinks no one's looking and Jongin is not paying attention. It's a game he plays whenever he feels like it and that would be almost all of the time, so it's not only this date, but previous dates and future dates, too, that Sehun will act all kinds of lovey dovey with Jongin. He probably enjoys it too much.

It's not long until Christmas after that. They've put up a Christmas tree, a fake plastic one that they both decorate together and in combination with the lights hung around the living room it all feels very Christmasy. Sehun is getting more and more excited as it draws closer to Christmas Eve, though he has no idea what Jongin has planned for him yet. All he knows is what he is going to give Jongin as present because for everything else, for the things they will do on that day, Jongin will be resonsible.

“Oh…no.” Anthem brings his hands forward and wiggles them about, all the while shaking his head.  “I’ve not got the gift of song in my soul.  That was something gifted only to my mother and possibly the youngest girl in my family.  It’s something yet to be seen.  I’m more like a donkey being strangled.  So I’ll simply sit back and enjoy others with such a gift. I am more inclined to play an instrument.  So unless you have need for a flute player, again, I have to say that such a task is not one for me.”

Truthfully, Anthem can’t carry a tune in a bucket with a lid on it, so yes, he’ll just watch and observe others.  And the fact that this young man is going around door to door to sing to others makes the prince of Huangshan smile.  

“Are you cold or anything?  Would you care to take a break and come upstairs to my apartment and get some tea in you?  Or maybe some hot cocoa?  I’ve got both.”  

Maybe Anthem can use this opportunity to build a better friendship.

The image of a strangled donkey trying to sing pops up in his mind, and although he does not doubt that the man in front of him might not be a great singer because he said so, he thinks the other is probably exaggerating. There is no person who truthfully cannot sing. It just takes a bit of confidence and lots of practice to sing decently. At least that's what people told him when he refused to sing at first as well. But then again, one cannot force another person to sing, and if Anthem offers to play the flute instead, that would be just as great.

"I'll take you up on that offer then," he replies with a grin. "Next time I'll have Jongin sing with me while you play the flute. You can bring friends, too. It's a bit odd to do this all on my own whereas other people go in groups."

It might not be very polite to do so, but as his curiosity awakens, Sehun peeks over the other man's shoulder into the house, wondering if he should really come inside. It's only a short inner debate, because as soon as cocoa is mentioned, his eyes light up like a child unpacking its presents.

"I'd love to," he says. "Only if it's not a burden. I don't want to intrude if you're busy at the moment."

new year’s eve 2015

Although Sehun doesn't measure time the same way mortals do, the longer he's been living in the human world, the more he has adjusted to the time there. Weekdays, months and years, he differentiates them, too, and just like any other people, he gets into the festive mood as well, celebrating holidays that aren't tradition for genies. In fact, back at home, Sehun doesn't have any days he celebrates, although he has heard of the ones in the human world, finding it fascinating how there are so many different ones in each and every region of the world, though some are the same and celebrated all over the world.

It's New Year's Eve. Sehun is sitting next to Jongin right now, both of them cuddled together under a blanket on the couch with the pups sleeping peacefully at their feet. There are snacks and sweets on the table and the TV is running, showing some music show that is counting down the hours to midnight, to the new year. Sehun leans into his boyfriend, head resting on the other's shoulder as he looks back on everything that has happened this year, starting with the moment he returned to the human world.

After two years spent at home in the genie realm, Sehun came back to find his relationship with Jongin has changed profoundly. He had left the other at night, right after Jongin had confessed his feelings for him, and there was nothing he had regretted more than not leaving a note or some other kind of message. Jongin had been so upset when he was back and with the confession, Sehun's two year long absence and his re-emergence, something between them seemed to be amiss. They had been best friends before that, trusting each other with the knowledge of their non-human identities, and when Sehun came back, it had seemed like their bond was broken, shattered. They both danced around each other, promising to stay the same, to be the same best friends as before because that was what they both had wanted - it just didn't seem possible anymore.

But over the course of two years, Jongin seemed to have matured. He grew stronger, more decisive and braver and if it weren't for Jongin asking him out on a date to give it a try - because Sehun had been scared and too careful around Jongin, reducing the skinship and overall interaction that might give Jongin false hope while Sehun was still unsure - their friendship might have gone down the drain already. But now, instead, they are dating, happily dating.

It were only a few dates at first, starting in late autumn when it was getting colder, and with every date that followed Sehun grew more and more comfortable around Jongin again. They had talked a lot, too, about this and that, but most importantly, they talked about their thoughts and feelings, two things that had been a rare topic for best friends Sehun and Jongin but was now subject of almost every conversation. Jongin would ask how Sehun was feeling and Sehun would respond honestly and vice versa. So when before, their friendship consisted only of fun times going out together, what was binding them now - next to the irreversible genie bond Sehun had consented to - was also a deeper understanding of the other as they were finally communicating properly with no truth to be left out.

Sehun smiles when he remembers tidbits of their conversations or his favorite moments with Jongin, like that one day they spent in Everland with Jongin being terrified of the T Express, or when they spent a weekend camping just a bit outside of Seoul, kissing under the stars. It's those sweet moments he savors the most and as he thinks about it, his heart grows even fonder of Jongin, swelling more and more because the love he feels for the other needs space. It seems like his heart is too small for the amount of love he has for Jongin because it's hurting, the pain a bittersweet kind of pain that he doesn't really want to get rid of because it's part of being in love and part of dating Jongin.

"One more minute to midnight," the MC announces on the television. Sehun only notices because Jongin is shifting next to him. He looks up to meet eyes with Jongin, deep, dark irises that seem to swallow Sehun's gaze right now.

"One more minute," Sehun repeats quietly, the smile on his face mirroring Jongin's.

"One more minute," Jongin agrees. "Just a few more moments until our first kiss in the new year.

Time seems to go by quickly. Jongin thinks it has a lot to do with him enjoying himself. One date, becomes two, two becomes a daily thing when they have time and energy — it leads to them holding hands and doing other small stuff that has Jongin’s heart doing back flips everywhere. But as the days grow colder, Jongin grows clingier. He accounts this to the fact he doesn’t like the cold very much and rather be close to the other to steal his body warmth. Naturally, he uses this as an excuse for small skinships even if his reasons are probably obvious to them both: Jongin just really likes Sehun.

It has him circling his scarf around the other’s neck securely and taking Sehun’s hands in his own because the other hadn’t brought gloves. He tugs Sehun forward and shoves the other’s hands in his pockets because he doesn’t want the other to have icy fingers especially when he had requested they go out on such a cold day. It’s a little awkward like that but Jongin doesn’t complain as he casts the other a smile. “Will you be here for Christmas?” He asks with a tilt of his head. He wants to plan accordingly knowing if he needs to make sure Sehun gets his present on time or early. He still hadn’t decided on what to get the other but he’s sure he’ll figure it out eventually. “I bet that is a time when genies are really busy - people have a lot of wishes to be granted.”

He’s somewhat come to terms with the fact Sehun will be busy sometimes. He doesn’t mind. Rather he wants to fully utilize the time he does have with Sehun as much as he can. So he has a long list of Christmasy things he wants to do -  after all, it’s the first Christmas he has had a boyfriend. The first Christmas he has been with Sehun.

“I want to drink hot chocolate, see Christmas lights, and cuddle with you.” He says longingly. He really likes the idea of how humans spend the holiday. It’s cute. “Let’s go look at the Christmas lights in the park today. Just for a little because it’s freezing out.”

They haven’t really put a label on themselves, on the thing that they are doing, but the longer the 'trial period’ lasts, the more obvious it is that Sehun and Jongin are actually good at this dating thing, and even without words, he thinks Jongin knows that he considers them as boyfriends already. After all, Sehun is practically living with Jongin, spending his nights and all of their free moments together. He’s rarely at his own place, and even if he needs things from his apartment he doesn’t go there; with just a snap of his fingers, he can move his belongings to Jongin’s apartment and like this, Jongin’s place is becoming a second home to Sehun.

It’s getting colder the past weeks, the warmth gradually disappearing to make room for winter to come. It’s not rainy, at least, but the strong winds aren’t exactly pleasant either. Jongin has taking a liking to put layers upon layers of clothes on him, finishing off with a wool scarf wrapped around Sehun’s neck. The genie can’t blame his boyfriend though. If Sehun falls sick, then they are both doomed.

They’re walking down the streets right now. It’s only seven in the evening, not really late, but it’s dark outside, the streets illuminated by street lights and neon boards. They just had dinner at a restaurant Sehun has chosen, so now it’s Jongin’s turn to choose a location. Sehun doesn’t protest, even if he doesn’t feel like walking around in the cold for much longer, but if it makes Jongin happy - and lately Sehun’s starting to think that Jongin’s happiness is actually the only thing that really matters - then he’s fine with it.

“That’s cheesy,” Sehun says, though he likes the idea as well. Sehun might love adventures, but he’s equally content with a warm, cozy evening spent in front of a fire place with a few more candles lit up and cups of hot cocoa in their hands. He imagines them leaning against each other with a blanket wrapped around both their shoulders. Maybe Jongin will sit on his lap later and Sehun will braid his hair, following a tutorial he’s seen on the internet. Jongin’s hair is long enough for that at the moment, and the image of Jongin with braided hair is actually cute, he wants to try it.

“I’ll be around for Christmas. I’ll be a bit busier the few days before Christmas, but during the holidays, usually people are busy with their loved ones. They don’t need me then,” he says. “But even if there are people, Christmas Eve is already reserved for a certain Mr. Kim Jongin.”

His hands stilled, pausing in the dishwashing he was doing as more Christmas music began to filter up into his ears. Last year, almost no one even bothered to see if the young man even knew what Christmas was and now? Now it seemed like his home might be a stop for carolers as they went about their merry little ways. Not that he truly minded. He just wish they’d, you know, give him a heads up so he wasn’t in the middle of something like - oh, scrubbing a scorch mark from a plate that he left in the microwave too long.

Unlike the previous night when Luhan had made his way up the stairs, this songster seemed to have paused at the bottom of the building, just outside the front door of the actual shop. No big deal. Anthem wiped his hands off and hustled himself down the steps and turned the corner quickly to greet the person singing.

“Oh!” He stopped short, bowing with a smile. The young man before him was someone he’d seen around from time to time, but the two weren’t very well acquainted. Maybe this was an opportunity in disguise. Maybe Anthem could make a new friend. “Hello there. Thank you for singing me songs, even if I’m not used to the holiday, I appreciate it!”

It's not like Sehun actually wants to do this, but he figures it's the festive time of the year and with other people following these kinds of traditions, it doesn't hurt to mingle with the crowd and go sing carols. There are a lot worse dares that Jongin could have come up with.

He's not exactly a good singer - he misses more tones than actually hitting them - but his enthusiasm makes up for the lack in talent and technique. Sehun is having fun, actually enjoying himself, even if it's just a tiny bit embarrassing to record all of this as proof because his boyfriend isn't there to watch; Jongin's working right now and Sehun is using that time to do the dare so he wouldn't have to later when Jongin is free; he wants to do boyfriendish things then, dinner and movies or just cuddling on the couch, something like that.

"Hello," he greets the man in front of him, his smile wide as he recognizes the man as someone he's passed by a few times already. "Actually, it's my first time doing this," he confides to the other. "I didn't think it would be fun, but it actually is. You should try out, too."

“THIS MOVIE MAKES ME CRY EVERY TIME WHY DID YOU LET ME CHOOSE IT?!” (why does this sound exactly like me lol ;u; )

Jongin was almost screaming at him, hysteric and in tears, yet Sehun didn’t budge. The reaction was rather predictable, so Sehun was not too impressed, by now too familiar with his boyfriend being overly dramatic when it came to watching melodramatic movies with a not so happy ending. Sure, it was sad seeing the innocent man being sent to death sentence, but Sehun had seen the movie too many times (each time because Jongin insisted on watching this and no other movie) to be as affected as he had been the first time watching.

“Because you wouldn’t let me choose another movie,” Sehun says. “Besides, I’m pretty sure you only like to watch this movie because I always hug you and kiss you to cheer you up right after. Are you gonna stop yelling and let me comfort you now?”
