sitting on the edge of the pool, his legs dangled slowly in the water. there was something calm about the area at night, a stillness that seemed to fall over the water. leaning back onto his palms, anthony gazed skywards for a moment before he heard the sound of footsteps. his attention was grabbed, and he called out a “the water’s pretty cold, just so you know.” but it wasn’t long before his head was turning to meet the other. “plus side is, i don’t think anyone else is around?”
late night swims? not really kai’s idea of a good time. however, late night walks where he can breathe? oh yeah, he’s all about that. hands shoved deep in the pockets of his jacket, he kicks a rock that skids across the sidewalk, skipping under the gate surrounding the pool and alerting the one on the other side of the pool. it’s when he starts talking that kai realizes it’s probably rude to keep walking without engaging in at least a little small talk. “oh--,” his eyes go to the pool and then back to his clearly not dressed to swim self, “i’ll just, uh, take your word for it.” then, because he doesn’t want to seem rude continues, “at least there’s that. you found the secret: go swimming when most people can’t tolerate the cold.”
