art is like sports.
i find myself arguing with my family on how they think high art is “real art” and other mediums/styles are “low quality” or “not real art”. i tell them to look at their box of cereal. i tell them how much skill is involved with the color choices, shapes, layout, etc. so that it looks appealing and highlights their product. is that not art? to them, they say “it’s bad art, look at what artists like rembrandt have made”.
but art is like sports. soccer is not the same as baseball, baseball is not the same as golf, golf is not the same as basketball. if you put lebron james on a baseball diamond and had him play, he won’t be the next babe ruth. skills from one sport can’t be completely transferred to another.
art is the same way! pixel art, renaissance art, abstract art, package design. they have different purposes and different “rules” to play by. one isn’t better than the other, because they’re different sports!
you can like one over the other, just like you can prefer american football to soccer. but there is no objectively “better” one, and no objectively “worse” one.
