The blonde’s lips twisted easily into a pout, as if it were only natural for them to rest in such an expression. Unfortunately, this was only too true. She looked up at her friend with amber eyes that glimmered with tears that had yet to be shed; a threat. Not that it was likely to work against Mura, who showed little interest in anything outside of his snacks, but she wasn’t about to give up without trying. 

"Please tell me, Murasakibaracchi? You can’t say something like that and keep it a secret from me! Isn’t waiting for the game bad enough? Why must you add to my torment?"

He didn't like how Kise nagged him about the surprise that he had in store for the both of them and merely looked down upon her with intimidating eyes and it didn't help that the sun was directly behind him. The shadows contorted his face; he looked near demonic. "No." was all he muttered as a bead of sweat rolled down the bridge of his nose. His face suddenly lit up when a worker showed up and let himself in; it was almost opening time and he couldn't wait. "Kise-chin, look" he pointed to the box the employee had taken from the back and watched as they would begin to arrange the games on display.

A backup plan? Well, she shouldn’t have been surprised. When it came to snacks, Mura’s dedication knew no bounds. So long as he had something to much on he would be satisfied, and that would make this trip pleasant, and not unbearable. There were times that she felt more like a babysitter than a friend to the purple haired giant, but she had grown used to it, so she didn’t mind too much.

"Care to share what that plan is?" Kise inquired after a minute or two passed in silence. At this point she was desperate for conversation. Every nerve within her body was on edge, tingling, and it made her anxious. She wanted the game now. Waiting was not her strong suit. She was impatient, and eager to play, to raise a new team, and love them with every fiber of her being.

He shook his head in response, wanting to keep it a surprise. Him and Kise didn't hang out much but, how could he resist buying cake for his friend on this special day? Albeit, he was bad at sharing. Kise knew this and knew how special the occasion had to be for her male friend to buy someone else sweets.  "I can't tell Kise-chin." another stick of pocky being popped into his mouth when he spoke. "Kise-chin will like it though."

Kise wasn’t exactly a gamer. She’d picked up and put down plenty of games before Pokemon, none ever claiming her interest so wholly that she felt the need to continue playing. But Pokemon was somehow mesmerizing. The tiny sprites on the screen felt real to her. Raising them, battling with them, watching them endure great pain all for her sake…It was intensely moving. She mourned each time one fainted, and would walk shamefully back to the Pokemon center, vowing to grow stronger in order to prevent this kind of outcome.

The blonde was a ball of barely contained energy. She bounced on the heels of her feet where she stood, staring anxiously at the closed doors to the shop. She needed to have the game in her hands now. What adventure awaited them in this installment? Was it truly going to be the last? She wasn’t sure whether to be excited, or saddened. Of course, all things must come to an end— she knew that. But Pokemon seemed like something that should live on forever. And it would. In her heart, and the hearts of those that loved it as dearly as she and Mura did, if nowhere else.

Curiosity got the better of her, and with a small frown, Kise peered over into her friend’s back of goodies. Not at all surprised to find half of his treats gone, she still gave him a look. “Murasakibaracchi, if you eat them like that, you’ll be out before the store even opens…”

His mouth opened as he stuck 3 sticks of pocky in, nibbling at the ends. They seemed to slowly grow shorter as he nibbled away. His train of thought and excitement were cut short by Kise's remark. Did he have enough snacks? Would he really run out? These were important questions to him but deep down, he knew he had bought just enough to last him until the store opened. When and if he ran out when the store opened, he would only be forced to take Kise out to eat which wasn't at all a bad thing. A new cafe had opened up a few weeks ago that Atsushi had been dying to visit and he was happy he had brought his 3DS with him for the sole reason of sitting down with Kise and playing Pokemon over a slice of cake.  "That's okay, Kise-chin. I have a back up plan." he said, voice muffled by the very ends of the pocky sticks, the very ends finally vanishing with a gulp.  They had been waiting for hours how and the Tokyo heat had began to set in. A few people behind the giant had walked off to take refuge from the sun's rays under the trees that lines the sidewalk however, Kise's shade was Atsushi himself. He didn't mind the heat too much, as long as he had his water bottle and maybe the promise of cake, which he had both of.

Is wasn't very often that Atsushi and his petite blonde friend went out together. However, today was a very important day, for today marked the release of an addition to their favorite game and it was tradition for them to wait outside of their local GameStop with the intention of being the first two people to buy the game. What was the game you ask? None other than the last installment of the Pokemon series; Pokemon Eternal Souls.  This being the last installment was only a rumor, but none-the-less, Atsushi and Kise were excited and visibly so. The purple behemoth of a man couldn't stop digging through his grocery bag of snacks and munching on whatever his hand decided was worthy of being lifted out in a claw machine like fashion. He had demolished half the bag already, still having an hour of waiting to go until the store opened.

Pearl looked up as she heard the door close and chuckled. He could be so lazy sometimes... Oh well she didnt really mind. She stroked a deerling over its head and put a bowl of food down in front of the creature.

As she walked outside she whistled. Waiting for the Noivern to come down. It was a nice day. Sunny with a slight breeze... The ground trembled and woke her from her thoughts as her Noivern landed. "There you are..." she tiptoed to pet its head and offered it the food. "There you go!"

A grumble came from the other side of Atsushi's room, a mass moving towards the man under the covers. He felt a slight poke at his cheek and lazily swat whatever it was away, except, when his hand made contact with the thing.. it wasn't a fly. It poked his cheek again and, again, Atsushi waved it away. "I'm sleeping, Muenie-chin..." he said, in a groggy voice, his eyes cracking open only slightly to look at the Munchlax. Her mouth was wide open, beckoning for food and with that, her owner would let out a groan and sit up to feed his dear Muenie.

I was recently interviewing the woman who founded Her Universe and we were talking specifically about women and geekdom. I asked about the rise of girls in geek culture and she very accurately corrected me: There is no “rise” of geek girls. We’ve always been here. Girls are just as nerdy as dudes are. Ladies have always been interested in sci fi and fantasy and video games - we just don’t talk about it a lot because men are assholes.

Pearl slowly woke up when her alarm went off. She pressed the off button and quickly went through her morning routine. Once downstairs she started to feed the pokemon that were now under her and Atsushi’s care. It was her turn today to do the morning feeding, she didnt mind it. Quite the opposite! She loved taking care of the pokemon all together!

The tall man, upon hearing her alarm go off in the next room, sat up. He hated waking up so early in the morning but hates it even more when he's not supposed to wake up that early.  With a sigh, he got up. He didn't bother to put a shirt on as the reason why he got up was to shut his door, lock it, and go back to sleep in the warm welcome that was his bed. Every now and then you could hear faint snores coming the direction his room was located.

It was like being trapped by a bear. A large, looming, and very much dangerous presence should he be provoked. Perhaps if she was very still…But then again, why was he doing this in the first place? Oh no. What if his snacks were missing? If she was the only one in the vicinity, then she would take the blame, and— “A-ah…Murasakibaracchi, how are you?”

It was honestly quite terrifying to be in this kind of position. Being on Mura’s back, which put her higher from the ground than she was accustomed to was already somewhat stressful. He wasn’t like a car, or a plane, or any other natural means of transportation. He was a human being. Flesh, bone, and blood. What if he tripped and dropped her? Or worse, was sent sprawling forward, throwing her off of his back and skidding forward, face scrubbing concrete— she felt sick all of a sudden.

"Are we almost there, Murasakibaracchi…?" She couldn’t see. She’d buried her face between his shoulder blades to avoid looking at her current nightmare fuel.

He stopped at the front of the store. With a voice like velvet, red velvet to be exact, he spoke. His head turned slightly to the left to look for the girl who’s face buried into his shoulder blades “Kise-chin..?” Had he dropped her and not realized? He squeezed under her knee to confirm that she was indeed still there and had not, in fact, dropped her without realizing. "You’re so small.." he stated, noticing and feeling her nose bury against his back but not quite seeing her over his shoulder. "Mmn, but we’re here. So you can get off." His hands waiting for her legs to signal their readiness to dismount his back.

Kise had never been frightened of heights, but she was beginning to rethink that now that she found herself on Mura’s back. Her life was basically in his hands. The amount of trust that she was holding for him was substantial. She could only hope that it wasn’t misplaced.

The odd stares were certainly different. She was used to attention, yes, but never looks of confusion like this. They did make an unusual sight, though. With their height difference, she felt almost like a child. Though she wasn’t sure what Mura would be in that analogy…Certainly not her father. That was too weird. Maybe an older brother?

His voice drew her out of her thoughts, and a faint pink hue rose to her cheeks as she attempted to push them back to the very deepest recesses of her mind. It was too weird. “Ah…I wouldn’t ask you to share with me, Murasakibaracchi.” Oh no, she knew better. “But okay.” She agreed simply for the sake of appeasing him. Displeasing the giant currently keeping her from meeting an unpleasant end would not be wise.

The large man and monkey were gaining on the store, hot on it’s candy heels. Murasakibara could almost taste the sugary goodness that was Nerunerunerune Candy and so he sped up, determined to have it in his mouth in a matter of minutes. The fact that Murasakibara was even running, to be honest it was more of a power walk, was shocking however, it was for his precious candy. His precious free candy that Kise was getting for him to replace his stolen goods. He didn’t show it, but Murasakibara was grateful for having such a friend as Kise.  Then, there it was. The corner candy store that he had been waiting for.
