you make my heart swell || nat + brex
Natalia could remember the way her world changed when a blonde little girl walked up to her and introduced herself as Brexley. She remembered the small details from when they were growing up, the way she couldn’t help but linger when Brex looked at her to the way her heart beat faster and louder in her chest whenever the other girl grabbed her hand or pressed her fingertips against her shoulder to give it a light squeeze. Natalia always considered the possibility of her and Brex being more than just friends, but she repressed the idea of it for however long she could out of fear of breaking her father’s rules and her own faith. But that party changed everything, and the instant Natalia kissed Brexley everything turned everything around on its axis and Nat didn’t know how to respond.
But how she handled things wasn’t the smartest, and she knew that, and now she was going to make it up to Brexley as much as possible. While Natalia knew she was far from being able to be romantic, she also knew there was probably no one who knew her best friend as well as she did. Preparing a plate of cupcakes - specially made for Brexley and laced with decorations and edible paper photographs of them and frosted her favorite colors, the locket she got her still in its box, and her guitar strapped around her shoulders - Natalia rode her bike to the other’s house the instant she got the text that it was okay to go.
She waited until she knew Brex’s parents weren’t home, heart racing. While Natalia was still as confused as ever about her sexuality, she was more focused on making it up to Brexley. Texting the other girl to look out her window, she waited for the other to look her way, hands shakily lying by her sides. Hopefully this would work out.
Brexley hadn’t forgotten the day that she met Natalia. It was the first time her mother took her to the girl’s family restaurant. She tripped over and ended up bumping into the little brown haired beauty. They were friends ever since, but Brexley had always looked at the girl in a more intense way than any of her friends. Her chest tightened whenever she was around the girl, and she had never thought about them being anything more until Natalia had kissed her at her eighteenth birthday party.
Her entire world was turned upside down, she had never felt so cared for in such an intimate moment. She was used to dominance, aggressiveness and anger, but Natalia was sweet, loving and considerate. The girl couldn’t help but feel slightly disheartened by the girl’s text message. She kept trying to find reasons for why she was thinking that, the main one that stuck out was Natalia’s father, she knew his history with her older brother, Max, and Brexley knew that Natalia wouldn’t be jumping at coming out anytime soon.
The tall female was finishing off an assessment when she got the text from Natalia. Her heart raced and of course she replied to it with a yes. She had no idea what to expect, but she soon found her palms sweaty and her chest tightening, already feeling incredibly anxious. She jumped at the sudden knock on the door before chewing her lip and skipping down the stairs, her blonde hair blowing behind her. She opened the door, smiling the moment she saw her. “Hey, Nat.”
