WHAT?! Why did you hate the kidnapping plot?

Cause it was dumb and at the time I was one of the people desperate for more affection and all we got out of it was an okay hug.

In general, I just wanted it to be more of a big deal and matter and it was nothing, although more than these days that’s for sure.

I was annoyed that Sid was just randomly there for himself. That the Joe parts of it only happened because he happened to be out running and saw them with Sid instead of some larger grand plan with purpose. It was just Joe being an opportunist.

And then there was no real follow up to the Joe feud and him owning the haulage because Ned was leaving so it fizzled into nothing.

2018 was full of bitty stories/not stories and this was just one more of those that didn’t really go anywhere or mean anything.

Plus I think Robert said “my boy” again. Haha.

But now…now this plot would be amazing compared to the even more nothing they get in 2026.

But yeah…forever a 2018 kidnapping plot hater.

I should make myself watch it again now to see if my opinion changes. It didn’t when I rewatched it a couple years ago but I hadn’t seen 2026 yet.

Robron week 2026 day 5 : 2018

While a serious topic, Gabby’s honestly feels like an extended mini-plot that’s mainly happening to facilitate Dawn x Billy 2.0. Who can she have this story with after her fling with Billy ends? Kim? She might be busy with Joe or Serena’s shenanigans or even Sadie and that Tate they said is coming. Is Laurel busy? Arthur?

Like there’s nothing technically wrong with Gabby’s story from the healthy eating angle yet but the fact that they’ve already used it to facilitate a two week random affair for Ross and Laurel and used it for this Billy and Dawn feelings thing just doesn’t bode well for it because yes, what happens after this kiss and Gabby finds out Billy doesn’t really want her either? I mean yes she can spiral more but true, who is part of the story then? It can’t just be her and a five year old.

I guess the "farm wars" will techically still go on, I just can't imagine what it will be like so I'm not really looking forward to that story. Will Moira and Robert compete who has more cows or a better deal at the Woolie. Will someone sabotage the other. I think they lost the momentum already for all that.

I feel like farm wars has always been more of a vague concept in Laura Shaw’s head than a real story.

Like I feel like she just wanted that set up of the Dingles having an independent farm and Robert being beholden to Joe and the big house on the hill. And then in theory they can do little plots out of that set up whenever they want to.

So yes, they could compete over contracts. Or Joe could do something unreasonable like he did with the cows…twice and then Robert has to deal with it. Which would be fine if this was 1993 and the show was about farming a lot more. But now, unless they give them an actual story, that stuff will always just be filler. Which again, is fine but not if that’s all they ever get to do.

In my head, farm wars always involved Robert and whoever else taking on Joe to get control of the farm but I don’t feel like that is ever going to happen.

The other issue is that Joe doesn’t give a shit about farming. So anything he does decide to do is completely at random and for no real purpose.

I just think more thought needs to be put into this if they want it to constantly be a source of drama rather than just Joe uses Robert’s cows to fix things or punish Robert. Or Moira complains that Robert stole her farm, which he didn’t.

That’s not a story, filler or otherwise. That’s just dumb.

Literally every storyline ends with …”What are we doing here?” I said that just at the end of today! Hahahahah I wish we were hating, it is genuine confusion and bafflement.

It’s just so confusing because nothing feels like it gets resolved because it just mutates into a new story. The only story that got aftermath and closure was the Ray and Celia stuff and that went too far the other way to the point that no one cared anymore so they wrapped it all up in a two day montage trial and disappeared all the characters involved.

I just want a story to have a beginning, middle and end. Is that so much to ask? Give me a story arc!!

My big question during the Jane Hudson years was always “are they actually doing something here or is this just bad writing?” Like with the Nate story because it was baffling and you weren’t sure if they actually were doing something or if it was just a terrible affair and nothing more.

Now it’s just constantly, what are we even doing here? Because there are things there to make a story but they just bypass them and start doing something else till the story such as it were is this big unwieldy thing that no one can get a handle on and isn’t even possible to tell it straight anymore. See the baby story and the elusive farm wars/Joe.

It’s so frustrating and I don’t get the reason for it.

What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?

It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.

My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂

We finally saw Rhona again for the first time in months today. This format is genuinely so bad.

You think Zoe was dropping Jeff off at work and they went, hey you want to be in a random scene with Natalie today?

Haha.

They’re just rotating vets. Paddy got to be in the first Monty scenes and now Rhona. Maybe Marlon can do a shift at the pub next.

Seriously though, they’re the only ones who got put in the plot cupboard after their big story. By all rights, we should see Cain for at least a year after this yeah? Haha. Could you imagine?

Wouldn’t it be time for the wheel to land back on the Paddy Marlon gang by then? Also like that is it for the Robert/ Moira Farm? She gets to kept throwing digs and Joe keeps threatening to kick them out ? Was that really it?And the arson? Are we done?

It's so hard to tell what their intentions are with the farm stuff because it feels like that's been entirely put on hold right now so that Cain can worry about Monty and be a shitty parent and we can have this Serena stuff that doesn't make any sense at all and Joe can get jealous over Dawn having feelings for Billy.

I mean we still have to see if what Serena is doing is related to trying to get the farm for Robert or if it's something else entirely random. So something could come from that. Or not.

But the Joe stuff is so confusing in general. There was all this momentum for a "Joe is doing terrible things and people get payback" story but that's stalled out sooo much. Robert had to cave, Vic left, Moira got some cows and decided Dawn's unhealthy obsession with Joe was love and let her grievances lie and now Joe's going to go after Dawn for kissing Billy probably so like...what are we doing?

Plus Graham was so focused on making sure Joe was being a good person and then completely let that go.

And now we randomly have Caleb going after Joe because Joe is getting suspicious about his counterfeit business and Caleb's also still mad about the kidney maybe? I don't know if that will actually be mentioned.

And it all felt like it was leading somewhere once but then it's not but now here's some more stuff but like...is it all going to end up going somewhere?? Do they have to wait till Tate Jr is born first? Like...are they waiting for him to lose Dawn in whatever way he does so he can become worse and therefore be a more proper villain for them all to take down a peg? Like what are we doing???

And this is why it's so hard to invest in this show.

Because yeah...is Joe meant to own this farm forever? Because they're barely doing anything with that anyway.

And were are our farm wars that they keep promising???!!!

Moira wears overalls sometimes and makes snide remarks to Robert every time she sees him but like...you've got stolen cattle Moira...when are we getting our war? You're not getting sex...start fighting instead!

And then the arson stuff...yeah...what? Is Kyle just done? Because nothing so far has been enough for Cain to really try to be a good dad. Is this camping fall going to work? Or is it going to take an even bigger fire? Will that relate to the Summer Stunt maybe? Who knows??!!?

I just want something to actually feel like they followed through on it.

As for Paddy and Marlon and Rhona and April and Dylan and Bear....yeah...when will it be their turn to exist again? We finally saw Rhona again for the first time in months today. This format is genuinely so bad.

Call me Laura Shaw...I want to yell!

It's hard to imagine there will be a story for Robert, Aaron or Robron in the fall/winter though because from the things we know for the rest of the show, it just doesn't feel like there's going to be time for another main plot certainly, or maybe even not a small one.

A Summer Stunt

Sadie's return

Jimmy's death and Nicola grieving and Kev comforting her or whatever is happening there (and this has to happen in the next month or so if the kid playing Eliot is going to be back at school in the fall or whenever)

Dawn and Joe's wedding

Dawn and Vinny's exits, however they work into the wedding or the stunt or if all those things are one thing

Gabby's continued healthy eating obsession story

75 more Kev tries to be a good dad plots

Cain's continued story. He still has months until more treatment.

Caleb's continued counterfeiting story and whatever revenge he's seeking on Joe

Dr Todd's murder/whodunit

Leyla's parentage reveal??

Whatever the rest of Serena's story will be, whether Robert and Aaron are involved or not but it still feels firmly like her story

I'm sure there's something I forgot too but that's a lot of stuff. A lot of it might happen in the next month or two so it's technically still possible for new things to happen in October/November/December but it still just feels like there's not going to be room.

But if they don't get something this year, I hope they get their act together and give them something next year. I mean the Seb story is right there if they want to do that. Plus their wedding, which could all link together nicely. But they're allergic to logic and good storytelling so like...who the hell knows.

I would also really like to see something for Matty and Mary and Ruby and Manpreet, perhaps something for Arthur, something more legitimate for Kim to do, something for Belle and Kammy. Basically all of the people they've ignored this year.

Whatever happens with Seb, if they don't show us the moment Robert and Aaron see him the first time, I'll be mad 😅 Really hard to even imagine if they've seen a picture of him when he's older. I'd assume so?

That is a crucial moment. We better see it if they ever actually do this story.

If they’re going to pretend Seb doesn’t exist, does that mean we can erase hell year 2017 from canon? I’m always shocked when I catch a glimpse of a photo of him in their house. He exists in spirit but is that even allowed?

See...I don't hate 2017 the way some people do. There were intense feelings and a wedding and a prison story where characters were allowed to feel the after effects of it and good angst and pining and character arcs and a relationship arc. Say what you will, but that was an actual story there even if there were parts of it I did not enjoy.

But yeah, every time they show that picture behind them I'm like "LOOK! SEE! REMEMBER!!!" But alas.

This isn’t me being hopeful. It’s more about what I expect from the show at this point. I don’t think neither Aaron nor Robert mentioned Seb after Robert’s return but all of a sudden, they were planning to contact Angela so they can see Seb after they came back from filming Corriedale their get-away-from-Kev holiday. If the next time we see Robron again, they’re planning to reschedule that Angela meeting, that’s about how I expected it to go.

"Oh hey Angela...we'd like to reschedule that meeting we had to cancel after my psycho prison husband showed up and started shooting at us!"

"It's been nearly a year Robert, I don't think—"

"Yeah, lot's happened since then so anyway, I still really want to see my son, my boy, so if you could just make that happen..."

Haha...

I mean yes, I do think if it comes up again there will be zero build up to it and the fact that it's been literally forever since the last time they brought it up will not be mentioned at all and we will all be expected to forget it because that's how this stupid fucking show works these days even though it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and easily could make a lot more sense if they tried...at all.

So, true, I don't know that we'd know if they're planning is unless the Sun spoils it, but it also doesn't feel like they are either because it feels like they don't have any legitimate ideas for them beyond just existing as plot devices for other people.

It's the same way I feel about the wedding.

Charity baby plot reveal to sarah and jacob is same as seb story. It's inevitable. It'll happen someday for sure but no idea when or how or if it'll be even worth the wait.

I mean I feel like the baby reveal is way more guaranteed to happen than Seb. Seb feels like a pipe dream at this point. I'm not convinced it'll ever happen and it will always be stupid if it doesn't. I mean I hope I'm wrong but it doesn't feel like there are any plans for it at the moment.

With the baby reveal, I still feel like that has to come out eventually. If only because I don't feel like Sarah and Jacob can find out about Dr Todd sexually assaulting Charity without eventually wanting to know why and how that happened. Then again, Vanessa accepted it. So who knows, they could just all decide to keep their mouths shut and Leyla's parentage is just the next slurry leak and self stabbing and we're all just meant to forget about it. Haha.

But I still feel like it's more likely than Seb.
