day 17/??? of being desperately sad for eve.

at every turn she was denied agency both in canon and by the people who created her. she was beautiful, she was funny, she was mean, she was so incredibly smart. she was korean, with a family and traditions and habits we barely got to see. she moved across an ocean to build a life. she was impulsive, and resourceful, and sometimes selfish. she did hot yoga and loved fried food. she was afraid of herself. she was excited by herself. she made people fall in love with her. she made people scared of her. she never got a name that was fully and wholly her own.

and her love for villanelle was not something that she needed to be rescued from, it was not something that she deserved to be punished for. she did not need to have the wool pulled away from her eyes to see a new life waiting for her, to be reborn. she decided what new life she wanted, what rebirth she was due. her love for villanelle was not a character flaw to be narratively addressed.

and i don't mean some badass woman who doesn't need a man and can kill someone in 6 inch heels without breaking a sweat or smudging her perfectly set makeup or chipping a nail. she looks like she grew up in a soggy cardboard box on the side of the road all alone. she monologues dramatically to herself while looking over the corruption-riddled city she works in because she has no friends or hobbies and will literally do anything except go to therapy. she gets beat up in alleyways so blood and rain drip sexily from her nose and chin but when she gets to her feet she looks like a sad wet cat. women want her but they also pity her. instead of perfume she smells of coffee, whiskey and cigarettes, which are also more or less all she lives off of. her voice is more gravelly than a pit of rocks as a result of said diet. she hasn't slept or showered in at least 3 days and it's increasingly obvious. she's either divorced or feels like she should be.

Two years ago I took screenshots of a page of the third book Die for Me by Luke Jennings and I just found them on my phone

"WHEN SHE FIRST LOOKED INTO MY EYES AS VILLANELLE, OXANA RECOGNISED SOMETHING THAT IT WOULD TAKE TIME FOR ME TO UNDERSTAND. THAT WE WERE FUNDAMENTALLY THE SAME."

Phoebe Waller-Bridge said something similar about their first encounter

"WHEN THEY LOCKED EYES WITH EACH OTHER IN THE FIRST EPISODE… I DECIDED THAT WAS THE MOMENT - IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT. IT WAS A CONNECTION WHETHER THEY KNEW WHAT IT WAS […] EVE FEELS THE SAME AND THAT'S THEIR FIRST INSTINCT."

Both source material state how Villanelle and Eve are the same and that their relationship is more than obsession, it's love!

SO HOW FUCKING STUPID DOES LAURA NEAL HAVE TO BE TO GO OUT OF HER WAY TO DISREGARD EVERYTHING THAT CAME BEFORE AND SAY VILLANEVE AREN'T THE SAME AND THIS OBSESSION NEEDED TO END BECAUSE ALL VILLANELLE WANTS IS CONTROL OVER EVE???? I FUCKING HATE HER.

ooh i think i figured something out

Pam is clearly not a “psychopath” as the show defines it right. between nature vs. nurture she represents nurture, since it was her circumstances that led her to join the twelve.

If i’m right, I think Gunn will be an example of someone who is fully nature, and incapable of empathy/remorse. (which forces Eve and Villanelle to team up next episode)

we’ve all been lamenting Pam taking up screentime but hopefully it will make more sense next episode, as i think Pam and Gunn were introduced as foils to show how Villanelle is in a gray area somewhere between nature and nurture, and working to rewrite her own destiny

the way i was completely wrong about this and pams extensive screen time had no purpose other than to say 'oh no its too late for villanelle how tragic! but at least there's hope for other (straight) people!'
