101 CHARACTER ARC PROMPTS
3. What haunts your character when they stare off into nothing?
Micha was tending to the wounded, healing what she could and bandaging the rest. Trying her best to aide the survivors the best the child could. Zack had done his job in protecting her and by proxy the people of the attacked village so he was sitting by the fire seemingly staring at nothing. He had been staring at it for a long moment in silence, more broody than normal. She glanced at Leiliana before moving towards her warrior.
Zack was lost in a memory. The attack on the village reminded him of the attack on his village many years ago. When a neighboring clan sought to slaughter his own and take their valuable resources. He was supposed to help the enemy, per the wishes of his corrupted sage. He remembered her laughing as her own clan watched her heal and work with the enemy.
But that wasn’t what haunted his mind. It was her screaming his name. Commanding him to fight, to kill his own father. Her commands more frantic as he stepped aside to allow his father to kill her. The screams turning primal as the warrior showed her no mercy. The day he chose to fail at his only purpose in life, the day he chose to dishonor his father, his clan, his ancestors and legacy. He saved his clan that day but his act of abandoning his duty, his purpose was unforgivable in their eyes. It was the day he was exiled.
A soft hand touched his shoulder and he jerked to reality, blinking lightly at his new sage. Her bright brown eyes held innocents, not evil. Her heart is kind and giving, not selfish and callous. She stood with him to protect the village, not stand by and laugh as innocents died. Though he was exiled and disgraced by his clan, in her eyes he could do better. He could protect her and know it was for the right purpose.
Micha smiled as she coiled her hand to herself. “You okay, Zack?” Zack’s mangled, scarred face twitched into a sneer, or for the drogvner barbarian, a smile. He gave a curt nod. “Good.” The child smiled and darted behind him, hugging her small arms around his thick neck. “Good!” The smile faded as he frowned, still not overly fond of any kind of physical attention. “You did good today.” Zack patted her arm, a part of him feeling a bit of pride over her words.
