Any advice on learning to enjoy making art again?
This is a difficult one. I went through a phase where I didn't make much art for years, at my rock bottom I was putting out maybe 3-4 pieces of art in a single year because it felt like the joy had gone out of it. It really depends on the reason you're struggling to enjoy your hobbies, depression, stress, burn out. If you're struggling with these it can really affect your motivation. I can't say what will help you but what helped me sort of get back into it was remembering what it was about drawing that I enjoyed in the first place. I love portraits because I love telling people about my characters and drawing them feels like an extension of storytelling. When I draw I feel like I'm spending time with them, bringing them to life in a way I can't do with words alone. Also if you're just coming back to it after a long time of dropping it, don't make it into work, doodle, sketch. Draw the same character 1000 times if that's what's fun for you in the moment. At the beginning of 2023 I drew nothing but the Frankenstein creature on everything over and over again while trying to get out of my rut. My partner got so sick of seeing Adam on every sticky note and napkin but working on one comfortable and familiar thing and not taxing myself trying to come up with "content" actually did wonders because I was focusing not on the end result but more on the fun of playing with my character. Don't force yourself, if you don't feel like drawing don't make yourself do it. Art isn't going to break up with you if you're gone to long, it'll always be there for you to come back to when you're ready. You're not failing anyone by being gone for awhile. How ever long it takes, be kind and patient with yourself, there isn't a deadline for picking up your hobbies again. I can say for me that when I burn out I burn out hard and it can last a long time, but even in those low points I know it's only a matter of time before I pick up a pencil again because it's the thing I love most in the world. I could never leave it forever.
Some of the best burnout advice I have seen on this platform (from an exceptional artist and writer).

hey can we talk. can we stop it with the white savior pinkwashing queer paternalism that white libs always seems to hold when talking about queer people/gender-nonconforming people from countries where gay rights isnât a legislated reality (i.e. often developing countries/countries where the majority ethnicity is non-white).
you havenât been on weibo, you havenât ever been to China. you havenât walked the streets of chengdu which is the unofficial queer capital in the country, you donât know what slangs and jokes we use to talk about queerness.
you read whatever your war crime aiding and abetting news sources spoonfeed you because you never went out of your way to befriend Chinese people in real life, you accept whatever reality is easiest for you to stomachâthat Chinese people, well, âthe government and the mainstream social mediaâ at least, are ontologically evil and are intolerant to a fault; that Chinese people are so different than you (who are so liberal and tolerant and queer and punk) that these âspecial few Chinese people who are queerâ need YOUR approval and YOUR protection and YOUR help.
Iâve spent a good portion of my life living in China, I have family there. I have queer friends there. My parents had colleagues and friends who are officially or unofficially out at work. I met my first butch-femme lesbian couple in China. I met my first trans man uncle in China. A large part of my middle school friend group turned out to be queer and have found people who they care about and who care and protect them in turn.
I only pity your willfully ignorant way of living. you see Chinese people as a sexless monolith, you see Chinese people in any position of power as a threat to your âdemocracyâ aka violent imperialism disguised under a neoliberal facade. give me a break.

Periodic Comet Swift-Tuttle Image Credit & Copyright: Gerald Rhemann
Explanation: A Halley-type comet with an orbital period of about 133 years, Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle is recognized as the parent of the annual Perseid Meteor Shower. The cometâs last visit to the inner Solar System was in 1992. Then, it did not become easily visible to the naked eye, but it did become bright enough to see from most locations with binoculars and small telescopes. This stunning color image of Swift-Tuttleâs greenish coma, long ion tail and dust tail was recorded using film on November 24, 1992. That was about 16 days after the large periodic cometâs closest approach to Earth. Comet Swift-Tuttle is expected to next make an impressive appearance in night skies in 2126. Meanwhile, dusty cometary debris left along the orbit of Swift-Tuttle will continue to be swept up creating planet Earthâs best-known July and August meteor shower.

periodical reminder that demisexuality has nothing to do with "opposing hookup culture". demisexuality is an orientation, not an ideology. it's about attraction, not action.
in the same way, demironanticism has nothing to do with being against jumping into relationships. it's an orientation, not an ideology. it's about attraction, not action.
being either kind of demi doesn't mean "doesn't want to (sexually/romantically) get with someone unles/until there's a connection". it's literally about not feeling attracted to people. in fact, it's totally possible for a demi person to want to get with someone they don't have a connection with for reasons other than connection.
something that's also super interesting to me is that i can literally explicitly talk about both demisexuality and demiromanticism being orientations that affect people while in a relationship and people will only focus on demisexuality and how "wanting to wait until you know someone is normal".
but they will completely ignore that demiromanticism is also a thing, and they never ever say the same thing about demiromantic being "normal" because they're invested as fuck in the idea of love at first sight.
also can we talk about how saying "actually, demisexuality is the normal default and all the people doing hookups are the weird ones" is actually some sex-negative bullshit?
like, demisexuals are literally just vibing not being sexually attracted to strangers without passing judgement on those who do. it's always the allosexuals who judge other allosexuals for having casual sex with people they don't know well, of course all while completely misunderstanding that demisexuality isn't about actually having sex but about attraction.
like if a demisexual talks about not feeling sexually attracted to strangers and your immediate response is "actually you're normal and everyone who doesn't feel this way is basically a slut", maybe you have some fucking unlearning to do?
like you're both invalidating demisexuality as an orientation while at the same time putting demisexuals on a weird pedestal of purity.
you're either a demisexual in denial yourself, or you're an allosexual in denial of your sexual attraction to strangers. either way, you're acting like a cunt.
and the fact that people never use the same argument about demiromanticism just shows how romance and sexuality are seen differently. sex is seen as dirty and romance is seen as pure, simplistically speaking. this is why they never claim that having only one crush in your life and feeling weird about the idea of falling in love with a stranger is "normal", because romance is so pure, it's supposed to be universal, it's supposed to be immediate.
this is not to say that any demi group has it better or worse. we're all fucking erased and invalidated.
i have a burning hatred for relationship hierarchies.
Why is it offensive to want to just be friends? Why is it expected for romantic partners to always take prioritization over friends? Why is it rude to tell someone you aren't friends, just chill with each other? Why are queerplatonic relationships seen as a step down from romantic relationships? Why is it bad to not want to make step ups in romantic relationships?
these labels have different meanings and levels importance to everyone, therefore they have no meaning or importance.
in my world, there are two places you can stand. next to me or the fuck away.
