sonofbaldwin said:Wayne County Circuit Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway dismissed an involuntary manslaughter charge against the Detroit police officer accused in the 2010 fatal shooting of 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones, reports the Detroit Free Press.
As previously reported by NewsOne, Officer Joseph Weekley failed to follow his training when he stormed a house looking for a murder suspect with his finger on the trigger and shot Aiyana who was asleep on the couch, according to prosecutors.

10 Things Food Banks Need But Won’t Ask For
Some items are in high demand at the food bank and you may not realize it. Because they aren’t essentials, the staff doesn’t publicly ask for them. A survey asked volunteers what items people would be most appreciative of and we’ve listed the top 10 below. If you’re looking for an easy way to help out, pick some of these up while shopping and drop them off at one of our area food banks.
1. Spices.
Think about it. People who rely on the food bank eat a lot of canned food, rice, oatmeal, white bread, etc. They love spices. Seasoned salt, cayenne pepper, chili powder, cumin, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, oregano, basil and so on.
2. Feminine Products.
Can you imagine being worried about affording these? Pads, tampons, panty liners, etc. Recommended: Buy in bulk at Costco for donating.
3. Chocolate.
People don’t need it, but think about being in their shoes and how nice it would be to be given a chocolate bar or brownie mix along with your essentials.
4. Toiletries.
Grocery stores are great about donating surplus or unsold food, but they have no reason to donate toilet paper, tooth paste, soap, deodorant, shampoo, etc. Food stamps often don’t cover these.
5. Canned meats and jerky.
This isn’t true of all food banks, but some struggle to give users enough protein.
6. Crackers and tortillas.
They don’t spoil and everybody likes them.
7. Baby toiletries.
Diapers, baby wipes, baby formula, baby shampoo, baby soap, baby food, bottles, etc.
8. Soup packets.
Sometimes you look at rice, beans, instant potatoes, and cans of vegetable and think, “What do I make with this?” Hearty soup is a complete meal.
9. Socks.
From a former homeless person: “Socks mean the world to you. They keep you warm, make you feel like you have something new, and just comfort you.”
10. Canned fruit other than pineapple.
Food banks get a lot of pineapple donated. Their clients love it when other kinds of fruit are available.

And remember! Food banks love cash donations because it allows them to buy whatever they need!
As a sometimes food pantry user myself and with friends who rely on them to varying degrees - I want to specifically stress some of these:
- non-food items like tp and feminine products and baby needs are SO incredibly important because 1) they are rarely donated, 2) people who have food stamps can often afford their food staples but might still need help with toiletries and cleaning items, and 3) folks who are homeless especially need that kinda stuff!
- treats! Like, yes of course, if I am in need I am appreciative of canned goods and rice and pasta and stuff. That’s great for putting together healthy meals. But everyone needs a treat once in awhile - so when there is candy or chips or a nice expensive brand of organic something or other available at the pantry - it is just so incredibly exciting.
It can be a humiliating experience to visit a pantry, and it can make you feel very much less than. So to get a treat of some sort just really really makes a difference. And believe me - there are enough loaves of bread, cans of fruit, and dried beans to go around at these places. You won’t be starving someone by donating some microwave popcorn or chocolate chips now and again. I promise!
People need more than food at a food bank!
The Man Who Saved The World
Tioga Pa. Democrat originally shared:
#history This finely decorated gentleman is no other than Vasili Arkhipov, a Soviet Navy Officer. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, it was up to him and two other officers to decide whether or not to launch a nuclear torpedo against the US. They had to decide unanimously in order to launch. Arkhipov was the only one of the three to vote against it, thereby stopping the submarine from launching a nuclear torpedo, thereby stopping NUCLEAR WAR from breaking out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasili_Arkhipov
27 Badass Images Of Women Winning And Exercising The Right To Vote
In 1921, Missouri voters passed a ballot measure amending the state constitution to allow women to hold political office. This was also the first election after the passage of the 19th Amendment, granting all U.S. women the right to vote.
A MID WEST FAIRY TAIL
A MID WEST FAIRY TAIL Once upon a time in a Midwestern state, a man named DaBoss had lots of money from a pyramid company. He had his name on hotels, hospitals, concert halls and all kinds of buildings in the city of Big Cascades. He an his wife, Lessie, had a couple of mansions in that Midwestern state and five or six houses in Florida. He retired from Daddy's company with his billions and billions of dollars. The he got bored. He got angry. He was angry because working people were happy! He was angry because schools were teaching poor kids to be independent thinkers. He was angry because everyone didn't stop and listen when he spoke. He wanted to be king! When he realized he could never be king he decided to be governor and act like he was king. "I have plenty of money. People all over the country suck up to me. Other rich people would like to have one of their own in the governor's chair." He talked to his friends. They said, "Sure thing, Rich, we will buy the governor job for you. Just make us richer when you get in." The current governor was a feisty California girl. She had charisma and charm, while he was about as boring as a pile of dirt. But, he had money. With his faith that money can buy anything and a belief in the divine right of the wealthy to rule, he plunged forward into the election. Election night and DaBoss was getting his acceptance speech ready. The numbers starting coming in. The news was not good. He was trailing. Then, he was losing. Then, it was official, he had lost. He couldn't get his breath! He felt like he was being buried under a landslide! He not lost; he was humiliated. The voters had spanked him and sent him to his room without supper. If you think he was angry before, he was really mad, now! "Stupid voters! I will have my revenge!" He still wanted to be governor. Even Lessie told him to give it up. People just do not l you. So, he brooded and plotted. There has to be a way. Then the idea struck him. Struck him like a bolt of lightning! "I don't really want to be governor, I just want the power! All I need is a puppet. A wealthy man, but not that rich. Where can I find a man without morals. Hedge funds! Hedge fund operators are the most amoral creatures on earth. All I need is a hedge fund man with some appeal. An avowed Geek can get away with being socially awkward." So the search began. Soon he found his "One Rough Geek", Hick Snidely. DaBoss brought Snidley in and convinced him that he had the stuff to be a great governor. Snidely's ego took over and he kinda ignored the part about being a puppet. DaBoss never used the word "puppet", but anyone who listened would know that's what he wanted. The fix was in. The money was there. Let the campaign begin! "One Rough Geek" caught the imagination of the people. Well, at least, the people who weren't too bright and those that didn't pay that much attention to politics. Snidely talked about re-inventing the state, running it like a business, using statistics and facts to make decisions. Any meaningless, feel good, technical phrase he could find was at his disposal. To make a long story short, Election Day came and Snidely won. (Or, DaBoss won.) Then, DaBoss got nervous. "What if Snidely forgets our deal? What if he starts thinking he is actually the governor? What if he wimps out on my plan!" So, DaBoss has Snidely set a secret pile of money called the GEEK (Greed Establishes an Executive Keeper) Fund. DaBoss put most of the money into the fund. The fund hired a shady character named Dick Beard to keep Snidely in line. Although, not a state employee, Mr. Beard was given a desk in the Governor's office. Mr. Beard, a lobbyist for a secret group of donors, had more contact with Snidely than anyone else. DaBoss couldn't trust Snidely! But, with his man in the governor's office Snidely could be made to toe the company line. Thus, the man that could not be elected was still able to buy the governorship of a state. #Michigan #republican #Snyder #vote
"From what I hear, Wall Street, pharmaceuticals, telecom, big polluters and outsourcers are all salivating at the chance to rig the deal in the upcoming trade talks. So the question is: Why are the trade talks secret? You’ll love this answer. Boy, the things you learn on Capitol Hill. I actually have had supporters of the deal say to me, ‘They have to be secret, because if the American people knew what was actually in them, they would be opposed.’"

Sen. Warren continues to sound the alarm about the secrecy of the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations. Make sure to do your part and share this with everyone you know!
Yup, that pretty much sums it up!
Four decades after war ended, Agent Orange still ravaging Vietnamese
Le and her daughter are second- and third-generation victims of dioxin exposure, the result of the U.S. military’s use of Agent Orange during the Vietnam War, when the U.S. Air Force sprayed more than 20 million gallons of Agent Orange and other herbicides over parts of southern Vietnam and along the borders of neighboring Laos and Cambodia. The herbicides were contaminated with dioxin, a deadly compound that remains toxic for decades and causes birth defects, cancer and other illnesses.
To this day, dioxin continues to poison the land and the people. The United States has never accepted responsibility for these victims – it denies that Agent Orange is responsible for diseases among Vietnamese that are accepted as Agent Orange-caused among American veterans – and it’s unclear when this chain of misery will end.
One of the reasons I don’t support companies like Monsanto is their involvement in this, and their refusal to fully acknowledge or provide restitution to the victims of Agent Orange.
