Within this session I looked at panelling to find a to use fabric and to use different coloured fabric without altering the fabric.

I looked at finding a creative and fun way to use objects in my process rather than stitching them to the garment.

This slide was inspired by the shape of a face as well as the eyes. I used an Ikea bag to create an oversized ball to show a head. I also wrapped up tulle to create smaller head shapes then further developed them by adding faces with hand embroidery.

This slide I was influenced by colours in my colour board. I looked at strips of different coloured and textured fabrics such as an IKEA bag, tulle and a section of curtains.

I developed this into sketch designs on a mannequin further developing my initial design ideas.

I chose to create sketches of a building and bus pass, as these are places and objects that I see each day. I used pencil, water colour, and fine liners to create a shadow.

As well as this I went to visit the Manchester Art Gallery, where I found an exhibit asking questions to the public. This really made me think and feel, which is something that I want to include in my final piece, to do this I looked at using hand embroidery to clearly state questions I wanted to ask.

During this project I looked at how the cost of living crisis in the UK has affected my personal life as well affected strangers, within my research I have found that activewear sales have declined.

I created digital prints to further my development using InDesign and Photoshop based on a collage I created at home using objects and fabrics. This process helped me to further explore colour.

Within my theme I looked at exploring emotions and colours investigating how they relate and how my friends, family and peers view them. Receiving my answers has helped me to question what colours I could use in my final piece.

Journey, The Discovered | Portfolio 2023

This is the dress that I created based on my theme of ‘The Discovered’. I looked at combining different techniques together such as pin tucks and wire to replicate skeleton bones. Primary imagery and objects trapping them together with fabric. My dress had many elements.

Since starting the course at 22 years old I was able to explore my personal interests of fashion and art. This course has pushed me personally and as a fashion designer. Being from a low-income family to be able to have the skills and understanding to design and create dresses and clothes is something that has been beneficial for me. The hopes I have for my career is owning my own business across the country providing high quality and affordable dresses and fashion ranges.

After collecting my research of different sketches and samples I placed them on a mannequin, to further push any ideas that I had.

To create initial design ideas I looked at collaging my printed images of samples and primary images.

I looked at colour as something within my project that has been discovered through-out time. I created a flat coloured developments mixing ink and paint and layered 3D tulle samples.

This slide is inspired by light and it’s movements. I chose to look at pin tucks to create a texture from this I inserted wire and begin curving it to portray movement.

I created a couching sample of different coloured yarns on tulle as another way to show light’s movement.

I explored creating colour and texture, I used trapped elastic and white tulle to create an interesting effect to try and portray light and dark. As well as this I looked at using bleach and acrylic paint together which created bold and very vibrant outcomes.

I looked at creating a range of design ideas based on fabric draped on a a mannequin. I looked at short and long dresses and sleeves from this I developed them into sketches. I looked at the use of hand embroidery, cape sleeves and different neck lines.

I was inspired by the shape and texture in Dolce and Gabanna 10 year anniversary collection. I chose this image as I felt it showed a range of colours and textures that I wanted to portray in my piece. I used rope and lace to try and get my desired outcome, this was successful from my toile as I was able to create 5 developed design ideas.
