As I say goodbye to 2013. I am filled with happiness, tears, and a sense of fulfillment.
I managed to have a best friend that loves me for me. I managed to patch up friendships that time just took away from us both.
I managed to laugh more. To cry less. To be happy for my friends.

I FEEL SO SPECIAL
I just wanted to say thank you to all the people who sent me Birthday wishes. I am truly thankful and I'm happy to have wonderful people around me. I am blessed to have wonderful friends and family.

Integrated
For the past couple of months I have had the opportunity of working with some truly wonderful people and I must say I was very pleased and thankful for the opportunity.
The arts society had needed events that would bring about interaction and integration of all the major companies (Dance) in the country. Events such as the National Trials and Gala celebrations were well needed.
I had the opportunity to get to know some very lovely people who - prior to this engagement - I would not have approached for any reason. Now I know this is gonna sound bad but most of these people are people I had never met and didn't really care much for *cough Jo-Ann cough...but thats just goes to show; 'don't judge a book by it's cover', or in this case; 'a dancer by the company they dance with' *flips hair . This experience totally changed my perception of a lot of people and I really had a ball....*snaps
Whether it was just lazing around between rehearsals and bitching each other (totally innocent) or comparing technical levels and facilities; this was such an enlightening and fun experience. I'm glad for the new friends that I've made from this and hope this will be a continuing trend with OUR generation of dancers......NO DIVA MENTALITY! AVID WE SAY! YEA UUUUUUUU!!!

Hidden Talent
Many people may not know this about me but I'm gonna share my little secret, can u keep it? *WINK
I have had the ability to draw for as long as I can remember and it has always been a hobby of mine from I was young. Whether it be just doodling in the back of my school books or drawing portraits of my favourite cartoon characters, it always gave me a feeling of fulfillment when I saw a finished drawing.
However I didn't take visual art seriously until about 8th grade when I realized it was one of the subjects that I really excelled in. After maintaining a straight A average in this subject area throughout high school I decided to tackle it in CXCs and excelled as well. *SNAPS
This may come as shocker for many people but I actually went to college with the intentions of studying art and for some strange reason I ended up in dance. Now because of the hectic schedule of dance I have somehow put my art interest on hold not recognizing that I'm stifling my small gift. Now that I have revisited my previous works of art I have decided to dust off those pencils and erasers and grab a piece a paper...getting back on the train hunni boo boo chyle. Its time I stopped hiding what I can do and expose myself to the world and who knows I may be the first Jamaican 'Dancing Artist'. Workkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!
So for all my peepz out there who has a hidden gift don't be like me and put it on hold nurture it and let it bloom into something spectacular.

Explaining Avid
Now I have been using this word 'AVID' for the past couple of years and I've been constantly questioned on its meaning. Well lemme break it down for y'all; for those who were quick enough to figure it out yes it's the word 'DIVA' spelt backwards. Why use the word Diva?.......Well being in the dance fraternity the word 'diva' is thrown around loosely and mostly for those who "proclaim" themselves to be these so called "divas". In my eyes this title of being a diva has to be earned with years of hard work and dedication to whatever craft, whether it be fashion, art, dance, acting, modeling etc. Nobody deserves the right to be walking around calling themselves divas unless earned. Most of these "so called DIVAS" suck majorly at what they do but yet still to make themselves feel better and walk around with their chest held high they stamp themselves with the title diva. Well NEWS FLASH!!!!! half of y'all aint no damn divas.........wannabezzz
So a couple of friends and I came up with the word 'AVID'. We created it for those people like us out there who are humble and are willing to work to get to ranks such as the greats like: Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Katherine Dunham, Mia Michaels, Sonya Tayah, Pablo Picasso, Alexander McQueen, Vera Wang,Tyra Banks, Twiggy, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Beyonce etc... those ARE the people who deserve the right to be called true 'DIVAS'. So for all my hard working, dedicated, muscle to the hustle peepz out there, keep on working and striving for better be humble and willing to learn and grow and don't be a snobby wannabe 'diva'.
Be an AVID and keep working and pushing, u will blossom and be recognized as a true authentic diva without even knowing. *SNAPS*

PASSION, OBSSESSION AND SACRIFICE
I stumbled on this quote from the new dance series 'Breaking Pointe' and from that day forth I have realized that we as dancers live by these words each day.
Passion....This is what drives us, what keeps us going in a small world of dance that is suffocated and over shadowed by other major art forms such as music and visual arts. We as dancers have to be committed to the form that we love. We are as versatile and marketable as any other art form. We utilize not only the body as an instrument but the mind as well. We can act, we can sing, we can play instruments, we can sit our asses around a desk and work for the 'Man' but NO!!! we choose to dance and engross ourselves in the beauty, grace and art of DANCE and that is what I call passion.
Obssesion...A term that each dancer should know well because we embody obssesion in our art.We are constantly looking for the next best thing and new ways of bettering ourselves. We watch millions of dance vids on youtube, we watch every dance movie that is released in theatres, we watch dance series on tv, we are at every dance event and show that is put on no matter how good or bad it may be. This is obssession, good obssession and this is what makes us as incredible as we are.
Sacrifice....God knows dancers make the most sacrifice. We sacrifice time, space, energy, even other things in life that we love. We are as bold and brave as any solider in an army because we too leave behind things and people we love for dance at times, for tours, for better dance education, for better dance opportunities. We sacrifice our bodies and subject them to incredible pain and exhaustion just to better ourselves. Fighting through injuries and illnesses just for that one moment on stage where we can captivate an audience and this gives us the most fullfilling experience,its like being on a high and seeing a piece of choreography budding from your thoughts and blooming on the stage as a beautiful masterpiece,there is no greater feeling in the world its simply orgasmic.
So dancers lets pull together in our small community and build and make it stronger, better, a force to be reckoned with. We have the strength to change the world with Passion, Obssession and Sacrifice
