SEARCHING MY PLACE IN THE WORLD
"Someone once told me: 'Wherever you go, you're already there.' I replied: 'I'm just changing cities.' They said: 'No one does that here.' They'll see you as a human anomaly, An Italian miracle in reverse, You escape from here like Saviano, From here, we can't save ourselves anymore, Not even as waiters we serve."
For a few days, I've had the second verse of "Guerra e Pace" by Fibra in my head, which, in its simplicity, managed to create a spark of reflection within myself. It tells of a relocation seen as an act of courage by those accustomed to staying within their comfort zone, lacking the strength to attempt change.
Perhaps I see a bit of myself in it, especially since I find myself in a new city now, and consequently, I feel in an environment different from where I've lived all these years. It might not be an artwork like the others, perhaps it's more for me, to help me gather a bit more courage, willpower, and mental openness, to feel less disoriented and with fewer passing doubts. In the worst case, there's always home.
© Omar Khoujib, 2022
