âYoung Man Vanishes From College Campus.â
Castiel frowned at the headline that caught his eye. Could be nothing, he thought, but it could also be his kind of gig. He clicked on the link to the full article. As he read on, he quickly realized something weird was going on. âProbably a spirit,â he muttered to himself.
He quickly packed up his laptop and his go-bag and then he was off to Cedar City, Utah. He didnât think it would be so soon before heâd be back on a college campus, but there were lives at stake. His past could go fuck itself. He could handle it.
Castiel turned on the radio and settled in for the 10-hour drive south, ignoring the anxiety that twisted in his stomach. He had a job to do and he was going to do it, simple as that.
Yet again another case. Somewhere in Utah. Dean frowned slightly as he heard of a young man vanishing from a campus. Interesting. Could that be the work of some Supernatural being? Maybe. Maybe not. Still something told him to go and check it out.Â
He reached into the back of the Impala, looking through his bag for a fraction of a second, FBI badge, he breathed a sigh of relief once he found it. He was always forgetting to pack it.Â
Soon enough he found himself in Cedar city. Kinda a weird place. Made him think of cheese for a moment or two as he pulled up outside the Campus the guy had vanished from, exiting the Impala and heading inside the College to look for clues.Â
When Castiel finally made it to the town, he first went to the nearest motel to do a bit more research. He was able to find the dorm building where the young man was living. He figured it would be easy enough to blend in so he could gather information without being too conspicuous.
He drove to the dorm building and took a deep breath before getting out of the car and heading inside. It looked like some sort of memorial had been set up with the kidâs picture and flowers. No body had been found but heâd been missing for almost a week. Long enough for most people to assume he wasnât coming back. Cas decided to check out the memorial. He figured it was his best chance to find someone who knew the victim personally.
âHe wouldâve hated this sappy crap,â someone said from behind him, and Cas turned around. He saw a young man with blond hair, hands stuffed in his pockets and looking at the memorial with a mixture of anger and... guilt? Cas frowned.
âPeople grieve in different ways, I suppose,â Cas responded. âHow did you know Max?â
The blondâs eyes widened for a second then he shrugged. âWe were pledges together. We didnât talk much.â
Cas frowned. âHow do you know he wouldnât have wanted this, if you didnât talk much?â
âWhat the hell, man?â The guyâs demeanor changed to defensive. âRespect for the dead much? Iâve gotta go, Iâve got class. Fuckin weirdo...â
Stunned, Cas watched the guy storm off. Something weird was definitely going on.
It was at this time Dean had arrived at the memorial area. He watched a guy storm off. Thankfully there seemed to be another around. Maybe they had known the victim.
ââHey, did you know the guy?ââÂ
He asked as he made his way over to him, keeping his attention half on the stranger and half on the memorial area as though he could tell something about the victimâs vanishing act from it.
Pictures and flowers. Interesting. No one ever did something out of the ordinary when it came to the victims. Dean often wondered if the victims were ever really known or so-called known by anyone until they were dead or missing.Â
Cas looked over at the man who had suddenly appeared beside him. Thinking quickly, he nodded grimly and answered, âWe were in the same fraternity before I graduated. He was like a little brother to me.â Cas looked at the man more closely and noticed his official/looking getup. âAre you with the police? Do you know yet what happened to him?â
ââFBI.ââ
Dean spoke, holding up his fake ID for a couple of moments before putting it away again.Â
ââWeâre not quite sure just yet, lookin into it.ââ
He ran his fingers through his messy hair as he continued looking at the memorial.
ââDid he have any enemies? Anyone that wouldâve wanted to hurt him?ââ
âFBI?â Cas thought to himself. He didnât realize this would be so high profile. Of course the FBI didnât have the first clue what was really out there.
Realizing the man had asked him a question, Cas had to think of an answer again. âI, uh... I donât really know. We havenât really talked since I graduated. Life gets in the way, you know?â Cas was really regretting his âfriend of the victimâ facade now.
Oh great. That was fantastic. Still with all these things dedicated to the guy he couldnât have had many enemies. Yet Dean did want to speak to the guy whoâd walked off, seemed kinda pissed.Â
ââYeah I get ya. Thanks anyway.ââÂ
A grin went over The Winchesterâs lips as he held out one of his fake FBI cards that had his real number on it.
ââCall me if you see anything suspicious.ââ
Cas took the card and nodded. âOf course, Agent...?â Cas looked down at the card, squinting a bit. âScully. Huh. Isnât that from a TV show?â
Dean inwardly cursed. ââYeah my folks were obsessed with it.ââ He laughed a little. He was always being nagged about changing that name, oh well, wasnât the end of the world.Â
ââSo yeah..Iâll see ya around, maybe.ââÂ
He grinned at him before heading away, deciding to try and find the guy whoâd gone off that quickly.Â
Cas smiled at the man but he was gone before Cas could say anything in response. A small part of him couldnât help but notice that the man was probably the most handsome FBI agent ever, but he quickly dismissed the thought. He had a job to do.
It occurred to Cas that the boy heâd spoken to earlier had mentioned a fraternity, and yet the victim was living in the dorm buildings before he disappeared. He wondered if that had anything to do with what had happened to him. Castielâs next stop would be the fraterinity.
By this time Dean had asked around and was beginning to pick up on the impression that this was definitely his type of case. The guy didnât seem to have enemies, people who disliked him, stuff like that. Only one guy had looked pretty defensive and he seemed like too much of an idiot to actually be responsible for this but there was a fragment of guilt in his look so Dean didnât want to rule him out quite yet.
Figuring he didnât want another dissapearing act he ended up breaking into the guyâs bedroom at the fraternity, just checking around for clues that might help. He checked under the bed and found something that looked oddly like sulphur. Great. Just great. Smelled like it too. Definitely a demon issue.Â

Dean Winchester Nightmare/ OPEN STARTER
Sam was dead. He couldnât breathe. Dean couldnât think. Dean could barely move. This was his fault. He shouldâve been better. He shouldâve protected him. He shouldâve been stronger. This wasnât happening. This just wasnât happening. He couldnât be gone. Not Sam, anyone but Sam. He shouldâve died instead.Â
ââYou failed me Dean.ââÂ
He could hear Johnâs voice in his head. Saying heâd failed him over and over and over and over again. He couldnât breathe. He couldnât think. He couldnât work out. This was just his fault. Every bad thing that happened to Sammy was his fault.
ââI..Iâm sorry..ââ He felt his voice break a little bit as tears began going down his cheeks.Â
ââYOUâRE SORRY? oH, YOUâRE SORRY, SORRY WONâT BRING HIM BACK!ââ
Dean wobbled once more, going over to Samâs body and bringing him in to his chest.Â
ââPlease.. wake up, donât leave me. I need you.ââÂ
As more tears ran down his face he closed his eyes, and that was when Dean Winchester awoke from his nightmare, completely drenched in sweat. A scream having left his lips.Â
Last couple of weeks had been full of trying to hold on and keep still. They drove around places, like usual, letting themelves drown completely in the scrambled lifestyle. Sam knew things were happening, but he wasnât going to pry on Dean. Of all people, Sam knew it did no good. Though he did what he could to make sure Dean knew he had support. They would go on and about.. And things were stable as much as they could be. The dam finally broke, when Sam could hear his brotherâs scream in the middle of the night, tearing him awake from his own sleep. Though, Sam wasnât much of a heavy sleeper, he wanted to be cautious for the two of them. He wanted his older brother to finally catch some rest, and yet.. There Dean was, sweaty and shaky on his bed. Sam was more than just fast when he got up to rush over right to Deanâs bed. When he got there, Samâs eyes softened itâs gaze, and he slumped. â.. Hey â Itâs just me, Dean. Iâm here⊠Iâve got you. Breathe.â His voice was gentle, and his hands moved to touch on Deanâs arms, before grasping him gently and pulling closer to his own chest. The younger Winchester was breathing deeper now, looking down to catch Deanâs gaze and read his scared expression. âIâve got you⊠Youâre okay. Youâre okay, I promise.â It was just a dream. A bad one. Their lives were filled with those.
ââWoah, woah.ââÂ
Deanâs eyes instantly widened but there was so much relief in his eyes at that one moment. He hated it when Sam had to cheer him up. He was the older one. It was meant to be the other way around. He had to protect him. That was his job. That had always been his job.
ââIâm fine Sammy, go back to bed.ââÂ
He muttered, moving away from him and heading over to his bag to find a fresh shirt to put on. He never bothered to fully unpack his stuff in the first place. What was the point if they were going to be constantly on jobs? He had a few bits and pieces in places, just small amounts however.Â
Itâs not like he could actually pry Dean into answering, into talking⊠Into anything. Because he could try to show Dean things, but whether his brother was willing to talk, now that was⊠A completely different issue. They were both rather stubborn assholes, but he could see the fear in Deanâs eyes, his terrified face, and that wasnât something you could just brush under the carpet. Sam swallowed down and frowned with a confused expression, seeing the way Dean pushed his own vulnerability away. It wasnât supposed to be like this. He knew it wasnât his fault, and yet it still hurt. â.. Dean. Donât do this, you always ââ He glanced down, making no attempt to move from Deanâs bedside, shaking his head. âI doubt I can fall asleep now, you scared me. It soundedâŠâ Sam cut himself off, before looking over at Dean. âCome on, talk to me?âÂ
ââ..Shit Sammy..I didnât mean to scare you, Iâm sorry.ââÂ
Guilt instantly went through the older Winchester as he ran his fingers through his messy hair, sliding a fresh shirt on and tossing the other one where he normally put his laundry.Â
ââItâs nothing really, I just had a nightmare about you growing that stupid beard back.ââÂ
A fake laugh left his lips. Sam was alive and he was breathing. He could see that right in front of him, there was no point in talking about anything.Â
He quickly shook his head at that, because if anyone knew what that gesture of Deanâs meant, it was him. Dean would usually take all the blame on himself, as if any of this was his fault, while it wasnât. Perhaps Sam wouldâve laughed, if his chest wasnât clenched with worry over him. Samâs hands moved to rub over his thighs and he smiled weakly. âThat so? Iâm your new nightmare material?â Sure, he could go on along with this, teasing the other lightly, but only for Deanâs sake to calm down at least, before he starts talking about the real stuff. Perhaps it wasnât about finding solutions, but simply about assuring eachother about things that were real. About being there, simply. Plus, at least he knew the nightmare did involve him. Was it⊠Him being a monster, again? The younger of them sat down at the edge of Deanâs bed and glued eyes to his hands.Â
ââGuess so.ââ
A soft laugh made itself halfway out of his mouth before he moved over to him. He sensed something was wrong. Dean slid down next to him, gently moving an arm around his younger brother.
ââI promise it wasnât you becoming bad or anything like that.ââ
In his mind it was much worse, much much worse. He would take an evil version of Sam over Sam being dead any day of the week. He could feel his heart beat through touching him and honestly felt much better through this.Â
Slight reassurance, but at least any. Sam gave a light nod at that and found himself relaxing under the touch, his own shoulders slumping and rolling back lightly. He always knew that it had an effect on him. When Dean was nearby, he just felt safe, and when they were touching â it felt safe, comfortable and real. âYou looked quite spooked, I just.. Donât want you to fear me. And at the same time, you know the deal. I drop this conversation, and itâs gonna happen again sometime.â If anyone was an expert on nightmares, the Winchesters took the prize. Soon, Sam closed his eyes and gently leant his head on Deanâs shoulder, breathing softer. âYouâre still shaken, so just.. Relax, okay? Iâm here for you.â
ââSammy, I could never fear you, youâre too much of a pipsqueak for that.ââ A light teasing tone left Deanâs lips before he shrugged, nodding.Â
ââYeah, likewise.ââ
He gently kissed the side of Samâs head, letting his lips linger there for a little while.
Well at least this time one of his nightmares had become something good.Â
âIâm not a p- whatever, you shouldâve heard yourself squeak instead.â He left a light chuckle at that, giving Dean a gentle nudge with his elbow.
Soon as he felt the affection come to him, it was like a waterfall of feelings. Sure, they shared affections on their own accord, but it was rare. Dean was always the bigger person, and Sam was ushered down. At least not now.
âAre you still tired?â
ââIâve never squeaked in my entire life.ââ Dean put on a mock offended expression before laughing a little bit.
ââNah.ââ
Honestly he felt wide awake now.Â
ââYou should get some sleep though, I promise I wonât wake you up again.ââ
Another light chuckle left his lips.
âWanna ask Bobby? You get quite startled by the little things sometimes.â Samâs eyes brightened with relief, seeing Dean laugh genuinely, seeing him relax.. Now that was enough for Sam to calm down himself. Though, he wasnât going to keep teasing Dean, the guy had it rough already. With a quiet yawn that Sam muffled in Deanâs shoulder, he rolled his eyes. His own arm moved to wrap closer around Dean in a side-hug. âDude, you likeâ always wake me up, with stupid loud songs, or throwing shit at me⊠Motels with you itâs like camps, you know. I need to be aware or youâre gonna put toothpaste on my face.â He smiled lighter again, closing his eyes.Â
ââOh shut up.ââ
Dean laughed again, rolling his eyes. The only thing that really startled him was the thought of those he cared about getting hurt. Sam more than anyone else in the entire universe. Maybe it sometimes got a little too intense but he didnât care in the slightest.
He had to resist all the impulses to make a joke about white stuff on Samâs face and just tightened his grip on the younger man ever so slightly.
For a moment there, the two of them was just sitting in silence, and Sam nearly spaced out, leaning on Dean, hugging him and gently listening to the otherâs heartbeat that was casually calming down. It was enough. It was the little things. If there was anything he could do, he would. He would do it all for Dean, world could be literally damned. â⊠You know youâre safe, right? If thereâs anything that youâre afraid of, you can just.. Talk to me, or at least let me know and Iâll help. I think sometimes talking can be enough. Or at least letting me know, because I worry just as much as you do. Thatâs our multi-curse.â Samâs eyes moved up to look at Deanâs face, and he smiled lighter. âI went to hell and back for you, so donât assume I wouldnât do that again.âÂ
âItâs not my safety that Iâm worried about.â Dean spoke, shaking his head as he did so.Â
At the memory of when the younger Winchester went to hell for him Deanâs eyes narrowed a little bit. He could not bear the thought of that happening again. Truthfully he hated that it had happened in the first place.
â No,  Iâve told you before youâre never going there again,no matter what, end of discussion.ââ Sam had been through enough shit for him. He moved his arm back from around his shoulders and ran his fingers through his own messy hair, the way he did when he felt anxious.
âHeyâ hey, I know.â Sam was fast to act upon his own crazy actions, he sat up and shook his head, reaching out to take a hold of Deanâs hand, giving it a squeeze. âIâm not going anywhere, Dean. Not ever. Iâm not leaving your side.â He spoke rather firm, looking Dean in the eyes with an honest expression, because thatâs what he deserved. Honesty. Â âYouâre stuck with me through it all.. So might as well just tell me what it is youâre worried about. Or else your head will explode with thoughts, itâs written all over your face.â Sam held onto his hand for a moment longer though, giving a gentle nod to encourage Dean to talk to him. âYou know weâre in this together, Iâll listen to anything youâve got to say to me. I want you to talk.â
Dean tensed up ever so slightly. ââYou canât.. you canât promise me that.ââ A soft sigh left his lips. He hated the fact they were in this together. He wanted Sam to have a normal life. That was all heâd wanted for him for years and years now.
ââ..You died okay?!ââÂ
Dean swore under his breath, he felt frustrated with himself for letting it slip and he felt frustrated for letting it happen.
ââYou died in my nightmare and I couldnât..I couldnât stop it.. what if it happens for real and I canât stop it..protecting you is my job..I just..ââ He wasnât good with emotions and turned away a little, lowering his head a bit to try and calm himself.Â
Samâs eyes followed the changes on Deanâs expression, and for once, he didnât act out as fast, letting the other talk it out. Listening intently, till his own heart filled with worry over this, clenching at the thought. Sam pursed his lips together and let out a sigh. âDean.â A light hand rested on his shoulder, but he didnât move, he didnât do anything else, just kept his hand there. âIt was a nightmare, thatâs all it was, alright? And.. I can protect myself too, you canât put all of this on yourself. Weâve been over this. You think I donât fear losing you? I do. More than you can imagine. All we can do is make sure we protect eachother. And keep ourselves stable.â He started talking, looking down at Deanâs back. âWhat we can do is believe that none of this has to happen if we manage it right. And weâve done that plenty already. Weâre here, both of us. And thatâs real, not your nightmares. Focus on that. Iâm here right now. Iâll make damn sure things stay that way for both of us.âÂ
Dean did not say anything to the other manâs words. what could he really say right now?  He felt annoyed with himself and anxious over his nightmare coming true.Â
He just glanced at him for a moment before glancing away again. Yes he was alive, they both were. For how much longer though?
Part of him could sense that he was about to tear up and he hated Sam seeing him cry so he faked a yawn.
ââYeah..Iâm gonna go back to sleep, you should try and get some sleep as well, I need you alert.ââ He gently nudged him, a light teasing tone leaving his lips.
He could sense that Dean not answering was actually a good thing, because he was thinking about Samâs words, he wasnât protesting. Usually he protested verbally or cut conversation, and⊠Sam knew he shouldnât be prying Dean into talking. He already said what happened, and itâs not like he could stop his nightmares. âIf you need anything, Iâm literally two metres from you.â Sam smiled gently, and let his hand move down Deanâs back, before rubbing there gently. When Sam got up, one of his hands moved to rest on Deanâs shoulder again, so he could lean down and press his lips to Deanâs forehead for a brief moment. His heart wanted to pour a promise through it. âWeâre going to be okay.â
ââJust donât die anytime soon, thatâs all I need from you right now.ââ Dean spoke, a light chuckle leaving his lips.
ââYeah, I know we will.ââÂ
Dean wasnât sure why Samâs words had always been so comforting to him when he was trying to act all strong but right now he actually did feel quite strong.Â
ââScoot, before I get long haired disease and end up looking like a freaking girl as well.ââ He teased, another laugh leaving his lips.
âYou know I could ask you the same. But Iâm pretty sure tomorrow morning youâre gonna need me to get you some pieâ Sam grinned lightly, hand went up to mess Deanâs hairstyle, and then he backed away before Dean could throw a shoe at him.
âHey! At least Iâm a pretty girl.â His ginger laugh echoed around the motel room, before Sam flopped down onto his own bed, eyes fixing up at the ceiling, before he laid down on his side, facing Dean.
âNight, jerk.â
ââHmm pie. That sounds good, Oi!ââÂ
Dean rolled his eyes, undoing what Sam had just done to his hair before laughing a little.Â
ââNight bitch.ââÂ
He muttered, flopping down on his own bed, facing him in return.
ââDonât let the bed bugs bite.ââ He teased before his eyes flew shut and he fell back to sleep.Â
Once again, Sam felt content and wrapped both arms around a pillow, squeezing it tight and yawning into it. He was a cuddly type, what, can you blame him?
âMhm, you too..â Samâs eyes were closed, and he snuggled by the sheets, before eventually falling asleep - bit later than Dean. This time it was his turn to stay awake and watch over the most important person in his life.
At roughly 7:30 AM Deanâs eyes slowly opened. He blinked for a second, just glancing over at Sam for a moment or two, a soft sigh of relief escaped his lips as he could hear him breathing. To Dean it was the most beautiful sound in the world.
He thought about letting him sleep for a while longer but decided against it and threw a pillow at the younger manâs face.Â
Everything was quiet and content, Sam was out in his sleepy mind. Though soon as he was hit, Sam groaned with frustration and pulled the pillow off his face.
âUhm, excuse you? What time is itâgods i hate you.â Sam groaned and throw the pillow back at Dean, before rolling over to the other side of his bed, burying himself in the sheets.
âGive me like an hour at leastâŠâ
ââAlright, fine Iâm gonna go out and get us some breakfast. ââ
By breakfast he meant pie for himself and some rabbit food for Sam. God he didnât know how the guy managed to keep going with the amount of rabbit food he actually ate.
ââJust donât spend too long doing your makeup.ââÂ
He teased, leaning over, intending to kiss him on the forehead.Â
âDonât get lost on the way, and if youâre gone for an hour cause you spotted a pretty bartender, Iâm doing the job on my own.â
Even after just waking up, Sammy had a nice sense of humor. Perhaps it came with being around Dean so much, appreciating their usual sarcastic banter.
Eventually Sam yawned and stretched his arms out, rolling on the bed in time with Dean leaning down, so he moved his head up to look at him. Before realizing, their lips were pressed together, and Sam froze on the bed, not moving an inch. But not moving away either.
Oh god. Heâs absolutely damning his fate right now. Especially with how soft- no. He couldnât. He shouldnât. But he was thinking about it nonetheless. It was Dean after all.
For longer than he should have Dean kept his lips there. He hadnât really noticed what he was doing. Just how great the feeling felt. Woah. What was happening?!
Sammyâs lips were so soft, so beautiful, so great. Stop it Dean, stop this now. Dean instantly pulled back. He didnât know what to say right now. Yet the only thing he could think of was to act like it hadnât happened.Â
ââUh..ââ
He swallowed for a fraction of a second.
ââYeah..uh..Iâll.. be back soon-ish..ââ
He muttered, instantly leaving the motel room.
As soon as Dean pulled awake, Sam felt like he lost his last ounce of stability and sanity in life. It felt ripped apart, and he reached out to grasp onto Deanâs shirt, but his brother was already pulled away, so he couldnât hold onto him. Instead, Sam stared at him, scared that Dean will get mad. Instead â he left. And Sam rose to sit up, shaking his head and running a hand through it. âWait, Dean â!â It was too late. He left, and Sam cursed under his breath. The last thing that he could do right now, was not to look for Dean, no. Sam got up and got dressed, too. Pulling on some old hoodie and shoes, he decided to go for a jog and sort his thoughts on there, because⊠He just kised Dean. And fuck. He should be chained for even wondering what it would be like, before. He wasnât stupid, he saw the way women looked at him. Hell, sometimes Sam himself gazed at Dean like that. Only when Dean was too busy to notice, though, all focused and â God, he was sick. If Dean knew, he would take off and never look at him again.Â
Dean had gone to the store. His mind going through what had happened. He couldnât be thinking this. Yet there had been times in the past when heâd looked over at Sam and just thought of him as the most beautiful person in existence.Â
He couldnât be thinking this. He knew he couldnât be thinking this. Sam would be disgusted with him. Surely. God he was so disgusting.
He ran his fingers through his messy hair as he headed back to the motel room, putting the food down on the table and opening a beer.
Itâs been a while, because Sam didnât stop running. When Dean came back to the motel room - it was empty, of course. And Sam was running. Running away, possibly. From what? From his thoughts, his feelings. Ones that absolutely shouldnât exist in the first place, and yet⊠Yet here they were. Eventually he did make it back inside their motel room, all sweaty and panting after the longest run he probably ever did. Sam was exhausted, and leant against the shut door, breathing deep and unsteady. That wasâŠÂ âDean.â He said, and sighed, calming himself down. Just looking at the other made him flush slightly, his perfect face did that to him. â.. I shouldâŠâ He should stop thinking about the kiss for Godâs sakes!
Stop it. Stop it. Right now all Dean wanted to do was pin Sam against the door and kiss him until they were both breathless.
ââHave a good run?ââ A fake grin went over his lips as he tilted his head to the side, acting as though everything were normal even though everything was far from normal.
ââYou should shower.ââ A soft laugh left Deanâs lips.
ââI got you your normal rabbit food.ââÂ
âYeah I.. Guess. It was nice.â Pull it together, Sam. The brunet nearly slapped himself in the face here, staring at Dean with wide expression, willing to slump over to him and do this all over again. To fell the otherâs lips against his own, Deanâs hands all over his skin. Especially right now. He was going to be sick. â⊠I donât smell half as bad as you do, and you didnât even run. You just stink.â Sam bit back with a chuckle, feeling it heavy on his chest. He wasnât okay, but sure, he could lock himself in the bathroom. And drown in the showers. âThanks. Iâll get to that later.â With a nod, he finally moved forwards and passed Dean, getting to the bathroom. He needed to wash down all of his thoughts.Â
For a moment Dean paused, reaching out for him for a fraction of a second. Every part of his being had wanted to pull him back and kiss him, to feel that amazing feeling once more but he just couldnât do it, he knew he couldnât do that.Â
He opened the pie and yet the more he looked at it the more he just.. for the first time he just didnât want to eat it. First time for everything. He moved out of the motel room once more, not leaving completely but just leaning up against the Impala as he drank the rest of his beer.Â
It didnât taste of anything.Â
In the shower, Sam found himself struggling quite abruptly. But he managed his thoughts and hit on the wall â happily not leaving too much of a dent. But is knuckles got bloody after hitting it a few times in pure frustration and anger at himself. Why did he have toâŠÂ When he got out of the bathroom after all, there was a towel wrapped around his hips, and Dean wasnât even in the room. Sam frowned a little bit at that, looking around â and then he noticed his brother from the window, drinking by Impala. Suddenly he stood straight and felt embarrassed with the way he was dressed. Sam moved closer to the wall and breathed deeper, confused, frustrated, and his hair still soaked wet. He was so fucked.Â
A couple of moments passed and then Dean made his way back into the motel room. His eyes lingered on Samâs torso for a couple of seconds before he spotted his knuckles.
ââSammy, what the hell happened?!ââ
He instantly made his way over, taking his hands in his.
ââWhat.. were you hitting stuff?ââÂ
With a frown, he nearly tried to pull his hands away and resist â but soon as Dean touched him, he resisted and let the other watch over his bloody hands. Though, he nearly pouted like a child, looking away, as if ashamed. There was a red spot on his face, and he would hide behind anger with that one. âItâs nothing, really, I â I fell.â Yeah. On his hands. âYou donât gotta worry about that, Dean. Iâll be fine â â He hissed slightly. âI just gotta patch it, is all.âÂ
ââYeah, right, why exactly did you ââfallââ ? ââ
Dean could see straight through Samâs bullshit.Â
ââIâll do it, sit.ââ He narrowed his eyes at him, gesturing to a chair for a second before going to the closet to get the first aid kit.Â
âWhat are you even so mad about? Itâs nothingââ It was more than just that, and they both knew it, but how was Sam supposed to mention it? He was afraid that Dean already hated him. âYou donât have to âmomâ me, you know that, right? Itâs ridiculous.â Sam still yet obeyed, and sat down frustrated, eyes averting itâs gaze from Dean as much as he could. âI thought you were trying to avoid me. Got frustrated. Happy?â
ââ..Hey, Iâm mad cause youâve clearly punched something a few times to cause this!ââ Dean snapped at him as he began sorting out the wounds before rolling his eyes.
ââItâs my job to take care of you Sammy, now stop being a-.ââ
He was about to call him a baby but decided against it.
ââOkay..I wasnât trying to avoid you..I just thought you.. might not want me around right now. Iâm sorry.ââ
â⊠Well itâs still nothing, I just needed to calm down.â Samâs gaze fell down to their hands, and he bit down on his bottom lip deeply, but not enough to draw blood, not yet at least. He knew what his brother was going to say, and only scoffed, gritting his teeth for a few moments, before his expression changed. Samâs brow cocked upwards in confusion, and he looked up at him again, tilting his head to the side. â⊠Dean. I would neverâ It rather scares me when you leave like that. I.. Didnât want you to be angry at me, or something.â Sam sighed and shook his head. âItâs not your fault. Iâm sorry too. Just⊠I donât know. We can⊠try forget the whole thing.â He suggested, and then looked once again at Deanâs lips, this time subtly. âIt was an accident, and I could tell you were grossed out and freaked.âÂ
ââ..It.. didnât gross me out, thatâs the problem..ââ
Dean sighed, shaking his head. It shouldâve grossed him out, he shouldâve been disgusted but he hadnât been. Maybe he was just in a weird mood, maybe there was something about this town that had done this to him. Yeah.. who did he think he was kidding with that thought?
He felt annoyed with himself, frustrated that he didnât want to forget it when he knew he should.Â
Something in Samâs eyes changed, but it wasnât negative. He was just confused, a little shocked and absolutely curious. His interested gaze landed on Dean, and he tried to study his face, before gently taking ahold of Deanâs hands after his own was bandaged properly. âItâs⊠Not. I meanââ Sam closed his mouth, trying to recall his possibilities here, before giving his hand a squeeze. âIt felt right.â How can something that feels right be a problem, right? Sam felt dizzy, his head was spinning, but he kept on staring at Dean and breathing deep, lips parted lightly to breathe through his mouth. âI know it shouldnât. But it did.â
Get out. Get out. Get out.Â
Everything right now was screaming at Dean to get out and not come back. To let Sam get over this whole thing but he couldnât leave him right now. He couldnât do that.Â
He sighed, letting go of Samâs hand and running his fingers through his messy hair, feeling a little anxious.
ââYeah..it.. did.ââ
He nodded, feeling annoyed at himself for saying it but Sam was the one person he always hated lying to.Â
ââIâm sorry.ââ
âMe tooââ Sam swallowed and then shook his head a little, rubbing his palms over his legs for a moment. The fact that he was still in the towel sure wasnât helpig, but he didnât want them to run away from eachother again. âDean, donât apologize, I.. I donât think we get total control over what we feel, and.. to whom. But ââ He gently reached out to touch on Deanâs cheek, furrowing his brows. His touch was barely-there, because he was scared to look at him even. âYou trust me⊠Right? If you trust me, close your eyes.â He needed to see what it meant if it kills him.
He wanted to lean into him so badly but he knew he shouldnât want to. He knew he shouldnât want this.
ââCourse I trust you..ââÂ
He muttered, swallowing for a second before doing what Sam had asked of him and shutting his eyes.Â
âOkay, I trust you too. Itâs alright.â Samâs voice was gentle, but he was nervous. Especially when Dean actually obeyed, which could be read sideways, but a hunch told him that⊠That this might be a chance. So instead of overthinking it, he fully rested his hand on Deanâs cheak, before leaning in closer. First, enough for their noses to touch, and he caught his breath in his throat, breathing inaudibly. âYou know you can stop me if you want to. Just say a word, Iâll pull away, and we can forget about any of this.â If Dean stays silent, then heâs going to kiss him. Simple as that, but he left the other a choice.Â
Dean swallowed, he knew he should say something, tell him not to do this but he couldnât bring himself to. He didnât want to deny himself this. He wanted to know what the hell it all meant.Â
He didnât want him to pull away. He didnât want to lose out on the chance he might have to get another of those amazing kisses. Heâd never felt this close to another person before. Maybe Sam had always been the reason why.Â
ââI..want this..ââ
Now that made two of them. Sam got enough consent he needed, and without even letting himself think more on it, he leant right in, pressing their lips together, ever so lightly â but this time absolutely intentionally. That hand on Deanâs cheek moved to ruffle through his hair and he grasped a handful, letting out an accidental gasp right to Deanâs mouth. His lips were soft and full and gentle. Sweet, if he were to choose one. â⊠So do I.â He murured holding their faces close together.
A half smile went over Deanâs lips as he heard that. After a moment he leaned into the kiss. His fingers went into the younger manâs hair. It was so long and beautiful and soft. Definitely how heâd imagined it.
ââYouâre so beautiful Sammy..ââ
He muttered after a moment, leaning his forehead against Samâs.
âAnd half naked.â He joked, to lighten up the atmosphere, but soon enough one of his arms slid around Deanâs neck, so he could hug onto him, breathing deep and steady again. Their foreheads touching was a relieving gesture that made the younger one calm down. âI canât believe we just⊠Wow. But also talking about beauty, have you seen yourself lately?âÂ
A soft laugh left Deanâs lips before he shrugged a little bit.
ââYeah..ââ He glanced down for a fraction of a second, guilt flooding his mind. How dissapointed their father would be in him flooding his mind.
Yet it had felt so right.Â
âDean, hey-â Now both Samâs hands moved to capture Deanâs face, he held him close and gently moved up so that they would look each other in the eyes. He was serious when he stared at him now. âDonât overthink this. Thereâs no fault, alright? Youâre literally the person I care about the most, and I.. I want this. Every step of the way. With you.â He spoke his mind while staring right at him, deeply. âItâs us. Itâs ours. And I love you.âÂ
ââI..ââ
Dean glanced down for a moment, a half smile going over his lips before he glanced back up at him. ââI love you too Sammy.ââ All of this just made sense now.Â
He wanted this.
ââAre you certain you want this? Completely?ââ
At the confession, Sam found his soul retrieve with emotions, so he nodded again and smiled lightly, his hand moving down to the back of Deanâs neck. He glanced into this eyes and leant in, giving him another, althought shorter and softer kiss. âYes. Absolutely. I.. Think I figured it a while ago. I was just scared. But youâre⊠Everything.â His smile widened. âWeâll keep this secure. We make eachother whole.âÂ
Dean nodded, a grin going over his lips as he did so.
ââYeah, same.ââÂ
His protective side had definitely gotten stronger by quite a bit over the last couple of years. It all made sense now.
ââYeah I guess we do, when youâre not being annoying.ââ He teased, gently nuzzling him.Â
âI could never be more annoying than you are.â Two could play this game, and luckily for Sam â their entire bond was filled with teasing, banters and pranking eachother as much as possible. They were literally kids at soul so it seems.. And he wouldnât have it any other way. At the nuzzles he smiled, pulling Dean closer and moving to kiss his cheek gently. âYouâre adorable when youâre clingy, did you know that?â
ââHow dare you, Iâm never annoying.ââÂ
A mock offended look went over Deanâs lips before he chuckled a little, shrugging.Â
ââIf you were anyone else Iâd say donât get used to it.ââ Yet with Sam he was ridiculously clingy. Just in case something ever happened.Â
âOh Iâm already used to it. Checkmate.â That made him feel absolutely special, especially right now, with Dean in his arms. âAnd I couldnât mind, youâre cute. And Iâm gonna use my leverage to spoil you in compliments⊠Once a while. I value my life after all.â
He used the teasing tone and leant down to bury his face in Deanâs hair, merely stroking it with his nose.
ââYouâre pretty cute yourself.ââÂ
Dean responded.Â
ââYou got the whole Flynn Rider thing going on, very very hot.ââ He gently moved his fingers through the younger manâs hair.
Now that he didnât expect to hear. Flynn Rider, huh? Sam smiled a little, unable to hide his soft flush, before he leant right into the touch, heaving out a relieved sigh.
âIâll regret asking, but does that make you my Rapunzel? I wouldnât put trying to whack me with a frying pan behind you.â Sam grinned, his arms snaking around Deanâs torso, pulling him closer.
âJust except for a chameleon or a horse, youâve got an engine.â
ââI donât think my hair is long enough for that Sammy.ââ A soft laugh left his lips before he shrugged, continuing to play with the younger manâs hair for a second longer before hugging him back in return.
ââWell youâre a pretty good thief, I mean youâve already stolen myâ.ââ He froze at how cheesy his sentence was gonna end. ââNah, thatâs far too cheesy.ââ A soft laugh left Deanâs lips as he lightly kissed Sam on the side of the head.Â
âDonât forget, she had a short hair by the end of the movie! Besides, if youâre prying to be my damsel in distress, I wouldnât mind.â He teased along, because having his hair played with was one of the nicest gestures heâs ever been given.
And whatever Dean did with him, he did with extra care. It was impossible not to love him.
âHey, that wasnât cheesy, it was sweet. Plus Iâve seen you watch Spanish soap operas sometimes and crying over the characters, you canât fool me!â Sam closed his eyes again, scratching gently at Deanâs scalp and pulling him closer, until he could sit down on the bed.
âI mustâve soaked the floor already. I gotta get dressed.â
ââOh please.ââ Dean rolled his eyes, a small smirk went over his lips however
ââI have never-.ââ He began before rolling his eyes once more, a light chuckle leaving his lips. Well at least no one else had seen that. It was slightly less embarrassing. Only slightly.
ââDamn, I was really enjoying that view.ââ
âIâm sure you were, but Iâm getting cold.â That being said, Sam reached his hand over to the duffel bag with his clothes. He pulled out a shirt and quickly slid it on. Same with pants soon after, moving to hang the towel to dry.
âAlright, now that thatâs done, foodâŠâ Sam leant to press a fast peck on Deanâs lips, before getting up to move over to the kitchen, where his lovely rabbit meat was waiting.
A soft whistle left Deanâs lips as he glanced down at Samâs ass for a fraction of a second when the younger man moved away.Â
ââHate to see you go, love watching you move away.ââ
A soft chuckle left his lips as he moved over as well, grabbing some pie and beginning to eat.Â
Soon as Sam was seated, he started laughing again, and he rolled his eyes as well to that. âGods, I adore youre good mood today, I really do. But I have a feeling youâre gonna start singing Mariah Carey to me if that keeps up.â With a wink, the younger one grinned right up at Dean, before taking something to drink himself. But at the same time, just observing Dean, sitting in front of him and eating pie, that was sorte enough and it made him smile a bit brighter again. âLeave me a piece?âÂ
ââYou wish.ââ Dean rolled his eyes at him, before nodding. Still Samâs ass deserved a a serenade all on its own.Â
ââCourse.ââÂ
He leaned in, lightly kissing the other man.
ââYou had something on your lips.ââ He teased, a small smirk going over his lips before he went back to eating pie.Â
âWho knows, maybe I do?â Sam left his words at that and didnât even glance at Dean, letting the mystery of his sentence just hang in the air. Sure, he was used to rolling his eyes and getting frustrated when Dean sang in the car, but at the same time he adored those moments. Getting to hear him sing was.. Quite pleasant, in a way that nothing else was. It was the little things that made him appreciate their life. âIâ Shut up.â Caught off guard as he was, Sam quickly turned his face to the side, bright red covering his face. He just didnât expect it, not that he didnât appreciate it.. He appreciated Dean a lot.Â
Dean couldnât stop the laugh that left his lips. Sam was adorable when he went red.
ââCâmon Sammy, blushing is nothing to be embarrassed about, itâs an adorable colour on you.ââ He teased, another laugh leaving his lips at the same time. Truthfully he honestly thought Sam looked stunning either way so it didnât matter to him in the least.
Once there was a couple of slices left of pie he put the rest in the fridge and leaned against the wall, just watching him.
ââFeeling okay?ââ
âOh please. Iâm not embarrassedâ just⊠You caught me off-guard, is all.â With a roll of his eyes, Sam stuffed his face with a piece of pie he managed to steal from Deanâs plate, and slumped on the chair, looking like a pouting kid for a moment or two. Though, happily that moment sufficied soon, when Dean got up. Samâs dark eyes followed the otherâs path, and he found himself astounded. To know that he could get up and just hold him, that was nice. âYeahâ âM fine. I should be asking you that question, you know?â
Dean blinked for a moment before shrugging.Â
ââIâm better than fine.ââÂ
Truthfully heâd not felt this happy in years, perhaps never even, it just weirdly felt like it was always meant to happen. Sam had come first to him over everyone and always would.Â
It felt nice, relaxing even. In all other relationships heâd been in heâd always felt like he had to be someone else, someone better. Yet with Sam it was different.Â
Getting an idea in his head he moved away from him, grabbing their fatherâs journal out of his bag and looking through it.
There was a really beautiful place John had written up about years ago, maybe he could take Sam there sometime.
That was more than enough to calm down Samâs nerves, and he stared at Dean rather lovingly right now, leaning his chin on a free palm, observing. âWell thatâs nice to hear, you look better than fine too.â And to know that it was on him that Dean was okay? Sam felt useful, and on top of that â he felt even special. What else would he need now that things were finally settling in place? Soon his eyes scanned the area, following Dean with interest, before he frowned. âLooking for a case already?â Sam mused, and then sighed, tilting his head backwards, eyes on the ceiling. âLetâs at least eat before we go out to kill some assholes.âÂ
A soft laugh left Deanâs lips as he shrugged, putting the journal back where it had originally been and zipping up his bag.Â
He made his way back over to the younger man, sliding into the chair heâd been in.Â
ââThis day feels like a really weird dream.ââÂ
A soft chuckle left his lips.
Good one though.Â
At that, Sam only gave the gentle shrug and smirked. âWell, then you can pinch me, cause it sure as well isnât a dream â and even if it were.. I donât think I wouldâve wanna wake up, you know?â Might as well enjoy it, now that it was happening. Sam decided to do some experimenting and reached to gather whipped cream from the pie on his finger, before smearing it over Deanâs nose with a chuckle. âThere. Pretty and sweet.â
ââYeah..likewise, hey!ââ
Dean growled playfully before laughing slightly as he wiped it off.
ââAnyway, Iâm not pretty, Iâm sexy as hell. Besides I found a place in Dadâs journal, not for a case, just looks kinda beautiful in a weird way, maybe we could go there at some point?ââÂ
He was honestly trying to subtly ask Sam if he wanted to go on a date but trying in a more manly way.
âYouâre kinda both sexy and pretty, donât neglect my compliments.â After saying that, he stopped for a mere second, overthinking his words.. But then again, the second part of Deanâs words caught his interest more.
âOh- beautiful in a weird way?â He gave a light chuckle, and then nodded. âI mean, yeah. We drive around a lot, might as well just enjoy the ride.. Far away from here?â
ââNot too far away.ââ Dean spoke after a moment of thinking about it. Besides he was pretty sure they deserved a small break at least.Â
He debated reaching over and playing with Samâs hair again but decided against it and leaned back a little, rocking the chair he was on ever so slightly.
âAlright then. Iâm all up for that.. Weâve already solved our case, didnât we?â After saying that, he shook his head a little. His hair was still slightly damp after the shower, so he grasped the towell and started drying his head slightly, listening to the other talk. âYouâre gonna fall if you keep doing that.â There was a soft chuckle when he observed Deanâs lovely, childish behavior. âAnd Iâm the dork? Look at yourself.â
The older of the two nodded, thankfully it hadnât been a particularly difficult case this time, still it had been quite dangerous, although that didnât really make a change from normal.
ââGuess your dorkiness is rubbing off on me.ââÂ
Dean teased before laughing a little but he did put the chair back to normal level.
(Dean Winchester; Open starter)
Another town had caught fire. A greenish hot, roaring fire that took everyone virtually in seconds. How much longer was this going to be for? Heâd had no choice. He thought Sam was going to die. All of this was Deanâs fault. He knew that. Heâd released an evil witch to get her to cure his brother. Yet he did not regret it.
People had died, so many people had died and yet Dean knew right now that if the choice was in front of him again with everything he knew then he would still make the same choice. Sam was his responsibility. He couldnât let anyone or anything hurt him. Even if that meant the rest of the world burning.
Of course heâd not told him the full truth behind it. Heâd not told him that heâd been the one to release the witch from her prison. Heâd just panicked. He couldnât handle the thought of something happening to his brother. Watch out for Sammy, above all else. He remembered that, he remembered the words heâd heard every day growing up and maybe this was his issue, maybe this was his weak spot.
The death list was going up, he could see the numbers rising on his phone, more and more people dead, because of him. He slammed his fist into the Impalaâs front, leaving a dent in her.
ââIâm sorry baby.ââ
Dean muttered before opening the hood a little bit to undo the damage heâd just caused.Â
ALWAYS AGAINST A WALL!!
OH DEAN!!

Sam getting hurt and being virtually dead so Dean finds a witch to help him cure him. This witch ends up curing him but curses the world and bad shit keeps happening. Yet Dean doesnât regret a single second of it.Â

âYoung Man Vanishes From College Campus.â
Mary had gone.
Well truthfully given past experience with parents what had Dean really expected? That was why he didnât do parents. They all ended up sucking.
It had gone 3AM and he was still outside, just sitting in baby. She was one of the only places he could feel calm in and yet right now he didnât know what he was feeling. Anger, sadness, betrayal. All of them seemed like a logical option at this moment in time. How could she? Surely any parent would choose their children over..anything? Surely a parent was meant to put them first? Then again they werenât kids anymore. He still felt angry, because of her, because of John heâd never been a kid, not even for one single second. He didnât regret taking care of Sammy, heâd never regret something like that but all that pressure still hurt.Â
He hit his hands on the wheel as he felt his eyes start to tear up.
After a moment or two he slid out of the car, beginning to slam his fists onto the car, the way he did when he was completely and utterly frustrated and hurt.Â
It was roughly the middle of the night, when Sam woke up from his late evening nap. The first thing he noticed was, of course, the empty space on the bed next to which he was sleeping. And it usually meant things that kept him worried.
See, Dean left when Sam was still awake, so this wasnât much of a good sign. Sam got up to make himself a cup of coffee - seeing his brotherâs beloved car, and then him, frustrated out of his mind.
Now, what else was he supposed to do? Sam forgot about his coffee entirely, and walked outside the motel room, sighing quietly when he observed what Dean did. Soon enough, abandoning his thoughts, he moved closer. Not too close, though.
âHey- I know you donât want to dent her. Whatâs up?â
Voice soft, eyes curious.
At hearing Samâs voice Dean instantly stopped. He hated Sam seeing him like this.Â
ââItâs nothing Sammy, go back to bed.ââ
He hated talking about anything to do with his feelings. It made him feel completely and utterly sick. It wasnât for him. Talking about his feelings constantly made him feel weak.Â
ââIâm fine.ââ
The way Dean would act around him when he was frustrated, like.. Like he was still a kid that he would never talk to about his problems. They all had issues, and Dean needed to just.. Deal. But he didnât have to hide. âDonât do that shit with me, I know you. I know when youâre going through things, and Iâm not saying donât, I⊠Iâm not a kid anymore, so donât shut me out.â Sam shook his head and wrapped arms over his chest, heavying out a sigh. He seriously hoped they wouldnât end up fighting about this. âThis is not fine. Youâre not fine, and thatâs okay, just for Godâs sakes.. Let me help?â
Dean glanced down for a second. Talking about it wasnât going to change shit. Yet he knew Sam was right, deep down he figured he was right.
ââThereâs no point Sammy, itâs not gonna change shit.ââÂ
He ran his fingers through his messy hair.Â
ââI appreciate it but Iâll be fine soon, donât worry yourself about me.ââ
At the last part, Sam heavied out a light chuckle, shaking his head. âYou know that never works out, right? That whole âdonât worry about meâ stuff. We both do.â Sam glanced up at him. âEven if â So what? You can at least tell me what this is about, so I wonât go on and about, trying to figure out what to do with myself.â After all, Sam did worry about Dean even when things were right, which was pretty rare in their kind of lifestyle. Instead of backing down, Sam stood his ground, eyes inviting. âOr we can go for a ride, if you need to clear your head.â
ââGet in.ââ
That was the only thing Dean said as he made his way to the driverâs side, sliding into baby. Driving in baby with Sam by his side always made the worst situations seem like nothing.Â
Maybe soon this would become nothing, just like everything else. They had dealt with worse things.Â
He knew he made some progress here, hearing Deanâs words and understanding what they meant. It meant he wanted to blow off some steam too, and that was alright. Sam wouldnât mind a drive around, he wasnât even that tired anymore â plus they had beer stashed in the car anyways. Once inside, Sam turned the radio on, and luckily, Queen was on. Sam, for his brotherâs sake, left it on and smiled lightly. âSo donât become some background noise, a backdrop noise for girls and boys. Who just donât know, or just donât care.. And just complain, when youâre not there.â He sang along, quietly enough, nodding his head to the music and chuckling under his breath, looking over at Dean for once. âLead the way, driver.â
A half smile went over Deanâs lips at Samâs words before he started baby, driving them out of the parking lot and into the night. He felt warmer somehow and glanced over at him a couple of times. That was just how he drove, always glancing at Sam to make sure he was alright.
ââDid you sleep alright?ââ
He asked after a moment, remembering he hadnât asked.Â
Sam leant his back against the seat and nodded gently to the music, watching ahead through the window. The road was pitch dark and empty, just how they liked best. Driving in peace and quiet on the road and good music in the car was the most pleasing. âWhat â Oh, yeah I did. It was one of the longest naps Iâve taken in⊠like months? Maybe? Not sure. I usually sleep the best in the car anyways.â Sam smiled and then placed his hand on Deanâs shoulder for a mere second, giving him a squeeze. âYou want a beer?âÂ
Dean couldnât stop the small sigh of relief that left his lips. Truthfully he hated their sleeping habits but a lot of the time it couldnât be helped.Â
ââYeah..ââÂ
He nodded after a second and soon enough he found a spot nearby, kinda beautiful and all lit up with stars. There werenât many times they could just relax and look at the stars so these were the moments Dean treasured.Â
He parked Baby on a clear patch of grass and slid out of the car.
Dean was frustrated still, but at least that look of anger on his face was dying out, and thatâs more than Sam could wish for. He was calming down, and that was enough. Sam smiled sofly when he got the beers for the both of them. Music from the car radio was still gently playing in the background when he got out of there, looking around with interest â and leaving the door open, just because it was safe, and he wanted Dean to be distracted from his thoughts with rock music he enjoyed. âItâs pretty out hereâŠâ He mused, moving forwards to lean his hips over the hood of Deanâs car, handing him one of the beers, opening his own before taking a drag. âYouâd think, the most stars are visible only near the mountains, less buildings and electricity around.. But this can do pretty well. I think I can find the Orionâs belt up there.âÂ
ââIn coming nerd alert.ââ Dean teased before a short laugh left his lips. He was already starting to feel better and took a drink from the beer in his hand. Yet Sam wasnât wrong. It was really pretty out here. He continued drinking for a moment before setting it down on the card hood and just glancing at the stars.
ââHow many of these things can you actually name Sammy?ââ
Truth be told Dean was often jealous but the good version of jealous over how smart Sam was.Â
AlThe remark made him roll his eyes with a soft chuckle on his lips. He didnât comment, only drank some more, before placing the bottle on the hood of Baby and leant on his hands, looking up. Usually, when they were younger, Sam would stare out at the sky, it was one of the few things that kept him sane when he was a kid. No matter where they moved, sky and stars were a constant, they were everywhere. He could always look out at the sky and stare for hours. It helped him when he cried at nights, thinking Dean was asleep so, he wouldnât hear. âI donât know â Like, quite a few? Been a while since I had astronomy classes, but I used to have a book about stars stashed somewhere⊠But look out there, wait â â Sam reached out his hand, pointing his index finger at the brightest star. âItâs a belt, andâ Wait, give me your hand. Itâll be easier if you follow your own trace.â He smiled, and then took Deanâs free hand, pointing it at the sky again, before tracing a shape after the stars. âOrion consistents of three brightest stars, Alnitak, Altilam and Mintaka. Itâs also called Three Sisters, or Kings.â
ââInteresting.ââ
Dean pulled an actually impressed expression. Truthfully he just thought of the stars as weird shapes that lit up the sky most nights but they were kinda great to look at.Â
He wondered if the stars had always been there and just gazed at Sam for a moment. Even with all these beautiful things in the sky they didnât hold a candle to him.Â
He took another drink of beer and leaned back on the hood of Baby, a half smile going over his lips.Â
âIt really can be.â Sam gave a softened nod, and then rolled his shoulders back. Eventually, after taking a proper seat on the hood of Deanâs car â Sam ended up laying his back on it, eyes staring up at the starry night. He hummed quietly to the music on the radio. Now laying there, he reached up to poke Deanâs cheek. âSometimes the stars remind me of your freckles. Thereâs a lot, and they lighten up after absorbing the daylightâ Sam spoke, before realizing that the actuall thought escaped his lips, and his eyes widened. Sam wouldâve cursed under his breath, if he wasnât in the open. Even the darkness of the night couldnât cover his flush. Whatâs been said, was already said. âI.. Guess Iâm a little tipsy. Donât mind the booze talking.â
Dean could feel himself going red by Samâs comment. He glanced at the younger man for a moment or two, wondering why on earth heâd said something like that- oh right, the booze.Â
ââYouâre such a lightweight.ââ
Dean teased, a fake laugh leaving his lips. How could someone get tipsy over just a little beer?
ââItâs okay Sammy, I know Iâm gorgeous.ââ
Another laugh left his lips.
Shit. That was⊠It was just a compliment, right? It wasnât anything bad. Sam reminded himself of that, even if he felt slighly embarrassed. I mean, who while staring at the night sky randomly remembers their brotherâs freckles? Sam has studied both long enough. And both were calming sights. Two constants he was used to. Sky and Dean. What else did he need anyways? But he knew that Dean knew better, he wasnât even drunk. â⊠Iâm glad youâre self aware about that, but I can bet most people focus on eyes or smiles. It makes them miss the little things.â He really should stop talking right now. âSorryâ Iâm making things weird, arenât I. Iâll stop.âÂ
Dean swallowed for a second. Heâd actually been enjoying listening to Sam saying all this stuff.Â
ââMaking things weird? Sammy youâre always being weird.ââÂ
He teased before laughing slightly but the laugh was a little bit forced. He lightly reached across, messing up the younger manâs hair.Â
âOh shut upâ I meant my words though. If people didnât compliment your freckles before, they sure as well missed out.â Sam gave a softer smile at that, and chuckled at the touch. There was an usual effect that Dean had on him. It came whenever any kind of affection was there. He lightly leant into it, as if to encourage Dean to ruffle his hair. âJust thought youâd like to know.âÂ
ââI mean you have great things about you as well. Long hair isnât the worst hairstyle ever.ââ Okay if he was totally being honest he found it kinda beautiful and he was sure a ton of other people thought so as well.
ââItâs soft too.ââ
For a moment he gazed at him, just playing with his hair before remembering himself and snapping himself out of the weird trance heâd gone into.Â
ââWell I always like to hear compliments, not that Iâm not already aware of them.ââ He teased, laughing a little.
For a moment or two, Sam closed his eyes again and just let himself breathe quietly into the night, giving the softest nod at that. He wanted this moment to just keep going for him â for the both of them. But was it possible? âCanât believe youâre actually appreciating my â how would you phrase it usually? âexcruciatingly long, girly hairâ?â Sam chuckled again, but he felt at ease, all of his muscles relaxed under the touch. âWell Iâd hope so.â After that, when Dean moved, Sam almost pouted at the loss of familiar warmth. âOh, yeah how could I forget. Youâre Dean Winchester, the gorgeous agent with beautiful smile, flaming hairstyle and passion.â Sam started laughing, he said that teasingly of course, grinning up at the other. Though, he wouldnât say those words were lies.Â
Dean knew Sam was messing with him but he couldnât help how red his face had gone. Oh that was just fantastic. For one brief second he reached out, gently brushing Samâs lips with a finger.
ââYou uh.. had something on them.ââ
He muttered, shrugging a little before stretching. Sam had literally nothing on them at the time but he hadnât been able to resist.
Something stopped around them when he could feel the warmth on his lips, and something started within his chest. Samâs eyes snapped open, and he stared at Dean with interest and confusion at first. Though, soon as his hand was away, Sam only pursed his lips together. Ther warmth stayed, and it drove him nearly crazy. Sam was forced to sit on the hood of the car again, head dizzy with thoughts. Instead of saying anything, he only bit onto his bottom lip. âYouâve got warm hands.â He said, as if that was the most important fact, and then, Sam chuckled again. A little dry it was, though. âMine are usually freezing. You think itâs the demon-blood kinda thing? That Iâm cold?â
ââPossibly.ââ Dean tensed up, thinking of the demon blood and shook his head to get the thoughts out.Â
ââHere.ââ
He quickly took off his jacket and put it around Samâs shoulders. Dean rarely got cold. Heâd spent so many years giving his jacket to Sam when they were kids that he didnât even notice it anymore.Â
ââDo you wanna get back in the car?ââÂ
Dean didnât want to get back in in the least, he was kinda enjoying this time but if Sam was feeling cold then they should get somewhere warm.Â
He didnât expect to be enveloped in Deanâs clothing at all, but now he was - and the familiar warmth spread right over his body. Sam melted in it, wrapping arms around his chest to sink down and inhale the familiar scent of leather and Dean.
âOh- thank you. I think i havenât worn this thing in years⊠I remember when it was like a bag on me.â Sam gave a smile at that, treasuring the piece of clothing that wa s usually so important to the other.
âNo- we donât have to. This thing is like a heater, thanks to you. And I like it here.. Itâs calm. Our own little place of quiet for now.â Sam reached back for his beer and finished it slowly.
âHoly shit-!â Soon his eyes widened, and he almost lost his balance, nudging on Deanâs shoulder and pointing at the sky again. âI havenât seen those in years, make a wish!â A shooting star shot through, brightening the night sky. He smiled.
ââMake a wish? Youâre a dork.ââÂ
Dean laughed and yet he couldnât help glancing up, making a silent wish. I wish we werenât brothers. I wish everything Iâm thinking right now wasnât totally wrong.Â
ââWhy donât you make a wish?ââÂ
He teased, rolling his eyes at the younger man and nudging him back.Â
âShut up, even if itâs silly, itâs nice to have hope and believe in things. Wonât hurt you, really.â
Sam wished that instead of the jacket, it would be Deanâs arms wrapped around him with the usual warmth. But that was all its ever going to be after all. A wish.
âWho says I didnât make one? Iâm just not supposed to tell you, or it wonât come true. Though I still doubt those dreams do. Iâve seen a few shooting stars back when we were kids, and it didnât seem to work.â
He gave a shrug, and then reached his arms out to stretch them.
ââ..Yeah..I guess.ââ
Dean shrugged a little, before moving his arms around the younger man in a hug. He figured Sam had just been stretching but heâd said he was cold and this was another excuse he could use to hold him.Â
ââYouâre still a dork though.ââÂ
The reaction was on instinct - the moment he was hugged, Sam leant his forehead on Deanâs shoulder and laughed, genuinely and gratefully.
âDamn it, youâre either a mind reader, or the dreams do come true.â Sam gently grasped the fabric of Deanâs shirt and relaxed under the touch.
âI wanted you to hug me.â
ââYou know you coulda just asked Sammy, Iâm always up for hugging you.ââ
Dean laughed, moving one of his hands into Samâs hair, gently cupping his head.
ââBut I feel flattered youâd wish for something like that.ââÂ
âI know that, but I already had your jacket, and I guess.. It just smelled like you, but itâs not the same, you know.â
With a gentle nod he let Dean take control over the situation, again. He always did, itâs what he does. He trusts Dean so much it becomes a constant. Part of him enjoys being protected.
âWhy wouldnât I? I mean. I remember it used to make me feel safe and okay. Thatâs not silly, is it.â
ââNo, itâs not..ââ
A soft chuckle left Deanâs lips as he gently kissed Sam on the side of the head, letting his lips linger there for a couple of moments.Â
This could possibly be the longest hug theyâd ever had but he just didnât want to let go right now, or ever if he had his wish.Â
ââIâll always protect you, I promise.ââÂ
He never wanted Sam to feel unsafe.Â
âYeah, I know. And I love you for it, and about everything else.â His heart had its trust seethed in Dean, it happened long before he left home, they formed trust when they were just kids, and he knew. He knew he could rely on Dean.
Right now though, they could just as much protect eachother. âSometimes itâs enough that youâre just here, really. It means the world to me.â Speaking his mind, Sam looked up at the other and his face sparkled.
âI just know youâre not the most touchy - Feely kinda guy, but.. This is great, thanks for taking me here.â
ââI love you more.ââÂ
Dean spoke in a much quieter voice.Â
ââYouâre never gonna be alone Sammy, Iâll always be here, youâre not gettin rid of me again anytime soon.ââ He teased, another soft laugh leaving his lips.
ââYeah, youâre welcome, donât get used to it.ââÂ
He laughed again, letting go of the younger man after a couple more moments.Â
âAre you sure about that?â He teased softly, but soon after that they parted, and Sam found himself appreciating this night even more than he thought he would. And most of all - Dean was relaxed, and feeling better too. That was enough to him, really.
âAlso, just so you know - it works both ways. Iâm not leaving you either, alright? You said itâs yourself. Itâs us. You and me, as it always have been, and always will be. And I wouldnât have it any other way.â Sam cupped half of Deanâs face for a mere second and then ran hands through his own hair.
âIâm glad youâre feeling better, by the way. If thereâs anything else I can do, just say so. Wish I could get you pie, but itâs both too late, and weâre in the middle of nowhere.â
ââPositive.ââÂ
Dean gently stroked Samâs cheek for a moment. Leaning in, closer and closer. Damn it. He couldnât do it. He knew he shouldnât. He just couldnât. Sam would be disgusted with him.Â
ââYou had something on your cheek.ââ
He muttered, that lie really sucked and plus heâd already used it once already.
ââShall we head back and you can get some more beauty sleep?ââÂ
He teased, tilting his head to the side as he gazed at him.Â
âI seem to have something a lot on my face.â That was literally an innocent tease, he didnât mind this at all, being able to get affectionate with Dean was absolutely worth it, given they didnât do this as much. Even as kids.
Being close was good, and Sam nearly lost himself in this all, but he held still. Suddenly, he gave a nod at the question. âYeah - we both deserve some proper rest. This time Iâll drag you to bed myself.â Sam nodded, and moved over ahead to take a seat.
He knew heâs gonna end up asleep in the car, but he didnât mind in the slightest.
ââShut up.ââ
Dean rolled his eyes at him.
ââIâd like to see you try.ââ He laughed at the thought of Sam actually dragging him to bed before he shrugged, sliding into the Impala as well and starting her up.
âYou donât think I could take you on?â Sam gave him a softened smirk of course, and then nudged Deanâs elbow. âMight wanna think twice.â Sam murmured.
Soon, when the car revved, Sam smiled to himself. âThis was sweet, we should find time for that in other states too.â With such a comment, the younger male gently leant down on Deanâs shoulder.
His eyes closed, and soon he could relax fully. âYou smell like home, you know?â That was more or less a whisper. âI never thought whiskey, leather and gasoline would remind me of home, but they do.â
Before realizing, Sam fell asleep.
Dean glanced over at him most of the time as he drove back to the motel, keeping one eye on the road as well but as always most of his attention was on Sam.Â
As soon as he pulled the car back into the parking lot he leaned against his side, pretty quickly falling asleep as well.
Sam wasnât sure whether he was going to be waken up so that they could move to the motel â but he didnât mind sleeping huddled up close with Dean in his car. It wasnât the first time they did so anyways, they often shared naps in the car â it was like a house on wheels for them. This time he was to wake up first â feeling the sunlight hit his face through the car windows. Sam didnât groan but only pressed his face onto Deanâs shoulder, it was warm and his skin was soft. Both arms wrapped around his arm and he hugged Dean, yawning quietly. â⊠Nh. Morning?â He whispered quietly, not really moving an inch. âItâs too bright. Iâm not opening my eyes today.âÂ
At some movement Deanâs eyes opened a fraction. He had never been a deep sleeper, he would never allow himself to be just in case something happened.Â
ââSleep well?ââ
He asked, a soft chuckle leaving his lips at the other manâs words.Â
ââYou were always frustrating to wake up, even as a kid.ââ
He remembered the times heâd poured ice cold water over Sam to get his ass up for school.Â
âGive me a break, it was years ago, and⊠You know, youâd skip class even after waking me up. How is that any fair? Mightâve let me sleep.â Sam smiled lazily, and also lazilly nuzzled onto him for like a second or two, just to keep the warmth. âBut yea, I slept good. Told you â Somehow I really sleep good in this car.â It was another effect. He liked to be reminded of the reality, and his reality was right here, right now, with Dean who wasnât going to leave him. âCanât help that, I just like taking naps. Itâs not like we have a steady job with a routine to wake up every single day at seven a.m. or whatever. I take what I can get.âÂ
Dean shrugged, a soft yawn leaving his lips as he sat up in his seat, just glancing out, it was way too bright. Truthfully he didnât enjoy the darkness much, you could never know what was in it but then again he hated brightness at the same time.
ââYou better not have drooled on my baby.ââ
He laughed a little, pretending to check for a moment before messing up Samâs hair before he slid out of the Impala.Â
âI canât believe youâre this concerned for your car. No. I did not, Iâm not an idiot.â Sam rolled his eyes with a soft laugh and stretched himself right on the shotgun seat, before yawning again and rubbing his eyes lazily. It took him a moment to adjust to the morning light, before he could finally get out of the car himself, shutting Impalaâs door and massaging the side of his neck a little. It felt sore from leaning on Dean. âHow about you? If you need to rest it off still, we have a few more hours before the check-out. I can get some food. Any special wishes⊠Besides pie?â Â
ââShh baby, he just doesnât understand.ââ
Dean teased, lightly rubbing a small patch of dirt off of the Impala. Much better.Â
ââHmm cheeseburgers, fries and for you not to be a giant buzzkill today?ââ A cocky grin went over Deanâs lips as he leaned against the Impala a little bit, continuing to check her over for a couple of moments for more dirt patches. Seemed okay.Â
âTrust me, I do understand. I wish I didnât.â He kept on teasing Dean for a moment longer, and then rolled his eyes again, wrapping arms over his chest. Only now Sam realized he was still wearing Deanâs jacket, and it made him smirk lightly. âShove off, Iâm a buzzkill with your jacket, and I bet you wouldnât like the stains of ketchup on this beautiful, pricy leather.â Sam grinned, taking a few steps back in case Dean was going to try and run after him. âAlright then, junk for breakfast yet again.âÂ
Dean narrowed his eyes for a fraction of a second at him before rolling them.
ââLow blow Sammy, low blow.ââÂ
He laughed before nodding and shrugging. Truth be told Dean didnât care in the least about eating healthy food, they ran more than enough to burn it all off so he was never sick from it and besides what was the point in eating shit he knew he wasnât gonna like?
ââLeast Iâm not eating rabbit food!ââ
He teased, another laugh leaving his lips.Â
âWhatâs so /wrong/ with rabbit food? Tell me.â He rolled his shoulders back and followed Dean to their motel room, diving hand to his backpocket for keys and unlocking the door. Soon he made it inside and yawned again. âYou know what? Iâm borrowing this jacket for the day. Itâs quite comfy actually. Mine now.â Sam smiled up to him and then ruffled his own hair to fix the hairstyle. âAlright, Iâll get some food then.â
ââEverything.ââ
Dean commented before yawning a little and stretching a bit. His back hurt from sleeping in the car, truthfully he should be used to it by now but still it often got to him.Â
He chuckled a little. ââWell it does suit you Sammykins. Just donât spill stuff on it and thatâs just fine with me.ââ
That shit was expensive.Â
ââDonât take too long, I might get bored.ââÂ

âYoung Man Vanishes From College Campus.â
