5 reasons to have a halloween party
I know what you’re thinking, assuming the title has influenced you as intended, you’re wondering whether you should throw a Halloween party this year or not. It’s a good question and one I hope to help you answer (the answer is yes by the way, definitely yes). So, without further ado, here are five reasons why you should totally throw a Halloween fancy dress party.
1. IT GIVES YOU AN EXCUSE TO DRESS UP
Not that you need one but a Halloween party is the perfect opportunity to slip into something more awesome, show it off to everyone and encourage them to do the same. Let’s face it, there just aren’t enough chances for people to dress up en masse throughout the year, which is what’s so great about Halloween. But your own party is an even better chance to dress up with others because it’s more or less mandatory, you know, in a fun way. Fancy dress is obviously our priority but if that isn’t enough to sway you, there are other reasons…
2. YOU GET TO CHOOSE THE THEME
Well, okay, obviously the primary theme is Halloween but that’s still a pretty broad spectrum of ideas for costumes. There are all kinds of directions you can go in and the specific theme of the party is entirely up to you! For example, if you want to see all your friends in drag (and who doesn’t?) you could throw a Rocky Horror party. Maybe you just want movie or TV costumes, or maybe you want to be really specific and have everyone come as witches and wizards. Whatever you decide to do, you have the final word, and the theme doesn’t stop at the costumes…
3. YOU CAN REALLY GO CRAZY WITH THE THEME
Costumes are just the tip of the iceberg. If you want a themed party you should think about transforming your home as well. You can always opt for generic Halloween, or you could get really creative and turn your entire home into a haunted house. Or maybe even recreate a famous horror movie setting. If you like classic horror movies then why not turn your living room into a mad scientist’s laboratory? A few (harmless) traps can also be fun if you’re into practical jokes and don’t like your friends that much.
4. YOU CAN SHOW OFF YOUR COOKING SKILLS
Assuming you have cooking skills, you can flaunt them at your party, but even if you don’t, you’re perfectly capable of following a recipe, aren’t you? It’s not really the cooking that counts here anyway, it’s the creativity – food is more fun when it looks like something else so you’ll want to think about making cakes shaped like scary objects. Maybe spiders, or bloodshot eyeballs. The point is, be creative with all your food. And the more it corresponds with your theme, the better.
5. IT’S A GREAT ALTERNATIVE TO GOING OUT
Clubbing is all well and good, but it’s just not the same as partying with your nearest and dearest. Clubs are great for drinking and dancing, but parties are much more fun. Sure, you can dance if you want to and leave your friends behind, but isn’t it better to be able to chat to them, play games, mingle with them and meet any new people they brought along? A party is a far more sociable setting and if you throw one, your friends will be grateful for the choice. They will almost certainly go for your party over clubbing, unless you’re really bad at parties or they just don’t like you.
