Marcia Lucas, who won an Oscar for editing 1977's 'Star Wars' and got a nom for 'American Graffiti,' both directed by her then-husband Georg
star wars wouldnāt have been anything without her
I dunno if leaving cigarettes by David Lynchās grave is a tasteful thing to do, I feel like thatād be like leaving guns by Phil Hartmanās grave or cancer diagnosis papers by Minnie Ripertonās grave.
Why arenāt the cemetery familiars doing something about this? Are they getting paid to just sit around all day? For shame š

getting into drowned god conspiracy of the ages will have you saying shit like āwhy did they cut out the naked running headless manā
Me, pointing to the mirror: Do NOT become The Joker about this. This isnāt even a Condiment King situation.

A new big 5 hour-long video essay dropped about Drowned God: Conspiracy of the Ages recently, and while I appreciate that it tried to explain the various references and symbolism it makes to a wide variety of subjects, I think trying to look at real history/religion/occultism/conspiracies to explain the gameās story is a foolās errand because it puts all these ingredients together in such a slapdash fashion it mostly has little resemblance to reality (which the video does acknowledge but still spends a lot of time trying to do anyway). It can explain the gameās choices to a certain extent, but it wonāt get you to really understand this gameās bizarro version of everything.
When analyzing it, people keep treating it as either some tome of eldritch knowledge (if they are already inclined to believe these things) or as a crash course in occultism and such (if they are more skeptical) instead of seeing it for what it is, which is a work of fiction. Harry Horse likely believed in at least some of what the game purports, but I donāt think it was nearly as much as people think.
The way Iāve come to my own understanding of the plot and characters is to not ask questions like āWhat are these characters referencing, and what is the history of it in our world which I will translate one-to-one to DGā I ask āWhat are these characters in-universe, what do they want, and why?ā Because believe it or not, thereās an internal logic to it where characters have connections to each other and they all have certain allegiances and goals, and thereās a pretty straightforward backstory underneath all the mountains of jargon, it can just be hard to figure out because DG was unfinished.
Been playing Drowned God since ive been obsessed with it for a year now. Its neat despite how buggy and weird it is.
I just googled this and⦠yes, itās absolutely real.
And there are so many articles and videos and discussions. Like, the scientific community is buzzing about this.
So much research will have to be redone because the data was absolutely compromised, off by orders of magnitude, by using standard lab gloves.
The world is probably not horrifically contaminated by microplastics. Sterile laboratories, however, are contaminated by latex and nitrile gloves.
Thank God someone bothered to check.
I have a wild idea. what if we supported our claims of fact by linking to a reliable source. better yet, what if we went hogwild and just straight up linked to the actual unpaywalled study
The whole "trans women should allow to call themselves girls and be infantile because we're mourning a girlhood we never had" schtick always makes me roll my eyes. No, inventing reasons why women should self-infantilise is not an epic feminist w and transfems aren't the only women on earth to not really experience a "girlhood" (whatever that is) and also be purposefully excluded from it. We ever heard about the adultification of black and brown children or are we just mad whiteness is not giving us the gender roles that were promised to us 3,000 years ago?
It is very frustrating as an adult survivor of childhood neglect and abuse to hear not just from transfems but the whole siteās adult culture that we should be as infantile and childlike as possible, only consume and discuss childrenās media and should be avoidant of reality when it isnāt whimsical and comforting to them.
I personally never want to be āstuckā in that place. Becoming an adult meant gaining autonomy and the ability to make my own decisions. I have no desire to go back to what was the most isolating and depressing time of my life.
Itās also just annoying. We donāt need you to go into āIām babyā psychosis, weāre getting killed out here and we need soldiers not adult babies. Be insular, socially isolated and infantile at your own peril because those are traits incompatible with survival. We need toxic bitches who advocate for themselves and their community (IN PERSON) and not this weak pathetic excuse for a culture.
I know nothing about Star Fox, but I adore whatever it is they did to that cat character who used to look like the mascot of an icecream company and now looks like a sleep deprived war veteran who smokes a pack a day.
The original design outright sucks and I cannot believe the shift from saccharine disney furries to grungy taxidermy creatures is at all controversial.
I didn't realize this before but the new designs remind me of the original weird ass puppets
I just thought those had always remained the canon intent and how everyone pictured them.
I thought the cartoonier look was entirely forced by the limitations of the n64 and agreed to be ugly.
Faust: The Seven Games of the Soul is an overly-ambitious, very flawed game with an uneven tone, what seems to be outright mistakes in the timeline it presents the story in, and kinda ugly character models that look like they tried to do a Henry Selick kind of style but they couldnāt quite manage it, but holy shit the Giselle section towards the end is SO fucking good for the most part (I have issues with how it ended but thatās Faust for you), I donāt want to give away spoilers but itās sad and bittersweet and so empathetic.
Also, most of the game uses period-appropriate jazz/blues/big band music, while the Giselle section has a 90ās grunge song called Far Far Away from My Heart play throughout, but the anachronism doesnāt really matter because itās just a great song that perfectly conveys the deep loneliness of Giselle.
While Iām talking about obscure 90ās point and click games, Bad Day on the Midway is for the most part a darkly comedic romp with some very intentionally scummy characters that you donāt mind seeing die horribly from a plague or a serial killer, but then a few times itāll just hit you with a deeply depressing piece of text that gave me pause when I read them and I just had to stare at my screen for a while, doing nothing but just letting it absorb and thinking of the implications. Iām referring to the poems from Dixieās dad and a couple of Tedās thought bubbles that pop up rarely.
BDOTM was written by The Residents, who had been making music for decades at that point. BDOTM and many others in the genre I call āesoteric Myst-like point-and-click gamesā were created with the involvement of a variety of pre-established artists, whether they were musicians, visual artists, book authors, etc. and I think what they brought to that specific time-frame and genre that I feel is very often missing from indie games today is outsider perspectives to the gaming world bringing in ideas others more firmly set in the gaming medium might not have ever considered.
Even if the games in the āesoteric Myst-like point-and-clickā genre were mostly made to capitalize on Mystās success and usually had very similar gameplay, they at the very least had wildly different art styles and stories.
If you find yourself wandering long enough in the Backrooms, you may start noticing the movement in the corners of your vision. Insects that seem to blend in with the patterns of the endless walls and carpets skitter about, barely noticeable.
Are they really there? It's not so impossible. After all, many species have evolved to live in the basements and attics of human homes. It is likely that populations of them have gotten trapped in this strange dimension the same way you did. Time dilation and other anomalies could lead to their accelerated evolution.
... Or perhaps you're just hallucinating out of lonely desperation to see something... Anything...
i think its fine to have limited tastes in media if you understand your limitations. like i wont shame someone if they only watch cartoons because thats their choice but i also dont think you can go making hot takes about the horror genre if the scariest thing youve watched this decade was the owl house finale. that seems ill advised.
