Ancient societies portrayed deep, intense, passionate love between 2 men, like Gilgamesh and Enkidu & Achilles and Patroclus, not because of like... gayness per se, but because gender divisions were so severe and cultural opinions of women so low that it was believed men could only achieve deep, real love and form lasting, powerful relationships with other men. Ancient Greeks practiced pederasty and male/male companionship not because the whole society was gay asf (unless...................?) but because it was the bond between 2 men or a man and a boy that was considered the most important emotional bond a man could have, and formed a large component of his socialization and cultural learning. Women in these societies were not social, cultural equals on any level. There was an idea that an Athenian woman should only leave her home twice: once to go to her husband's house on the day of her wedding, and the second time as a corpse to be buried. In ancient Mesopotamia, a woman or girl who was physically outside the home was considered sexually available, equivalent to a prostitute, with no social clout or value. (None of this means, btw, that women never left the house, etc. but these were the cultural attitudes all women contended with regardless of class.) It can be frustrating to see people on Timblr weeping and moaning over the power of these love stories--which, I can relate to, I cried the first time I read the Iliad! But given the intense misogyny on this site as a whole (funny since it's the female website), it feels like yet another symptom of the closed-circuit minds on here that identify most passionately and intensely with men and relate to men's struggles, men's feelings, men's partnerships with each other, in a way that they can't or won't begin to do for women.

I think ghosts are real. Have you ever indulged in those illusions that have you stare at an inverted image for a long while, then turn to face a blank wall? You are greeted by the negative of the image. Similarly, when you know someone for a long time, you have seen them for a long time. Not just in form but in action and impact on their surroundings. So, when they abruptly leave, you are left with the negative, they space they once filled in your life now empty. Couple this with grief, it is completely understandable for people to see long departed loved once still in the places they used to live. Ghosts are real, because the grief and love that make them up are real.
I don't remember when, but at some point I decided that my weasel OC, Luna, would fucking love Shadow the Hedgehog. Then yesterday I stumbled upon this shirt and I was like "oh my fucking god Luna would wear the FUCK out of that shirt." So I went and found an equally as ridiculous hat featuring Shadow so I could deck Luna out in Shadow drip and make her mom yell at her about it.
(She's a bit of a heavy smoker, also, hence why it had to be a shirt with Shadow holding a box of Marlboro that inspired this.)

nobody ever believes me when I list off all of the ways that humans are significantly less sexually dimorphic than people seem to believe and it drives me batshit insane. âyouâre denying the biological reality of sexâ well youâre sticking your fingers in your ears and saying lalalala every time anyone presents you with data that confirms that women and men arenât really that different. and refusing to come to terms with the two-way relationship between the âbiologicalâ and âsocialâ worlds. I think one of us is ignoring the biological sciences here and it isnât me
Someone once told me my biology degree was fake because I said humans weren't sexual dimorphic.
A male human and a female human are roughly the same size and same coloration.
Meanwhile, male black widow spiders are brown and a tenth the size of females. Anglerfish females are a full foot long and have a bioluminescent protrusion on their heads; males are barely half an inch long with no bioluminescence or protrusions. Male elephant seals are ten times bigger than females and have massive snouts. Male orangutans have big jowls and neck sacs that look like goiters, while females look more like other apes. Peacocks have flashy coloration and a long tail that they can display. The females are brown and simple.
Humans aren't sexually dimorphic! You only know someone's gender because of cultural identifiers, like clothing or hair.
The big things for primate sexual dimorphism tend to be canine size and body size. Male primates in sexually dimorphic species tend to have HUGE canine teeth for better threat displays, and are bigger for similar reasons.
Lowland Gorilla males tend to be 2.38x on average the mass of Lowland Gorilla females. Humans? That ratio is something line 1.15.
Male gorilla canines tend to be about 2 inches long, easily twice the length of some of their other teeth. Male humans have canines the exact same length as human female canines and the exact same length as the rest of our teeth.
We are not particularly sexually dimorphic.

Thank you.
Been thinking about the war kids again. More fanfics should consider the frankly hilarious concept that Toph has no clue where Aang is 60% of the time. Her sense stops when he leaves the earth so she's relying entirely on things like his chatterbox personality and the whooshing of wind to guestimate. Aang is like the only person in Toph's entire life who has a good chance of jumpscaring her without meaning to.
Aang is also the only person who wields sight sense too- he has the means and the inside knowledge to successfully jumpscare Toph BeiFong.
This is obviously not a good idea but this is Aang, lover of silly pranks, he would absolutely do it once just to prove it was possible. I also imagine that instead of earthbending immediately Toph's gut reaction to someone that close without warning is to sock them in the jaw with her actual fist.

Katara, chilling some water for cold compresses: so what'd we learn today?
Aang, missing two teeth: to duck
Toph, zero injuries other than her pride: that the Avatar needs to die

Johnny Depp's comeback should not happen, but if it does happen, let's all at least hope anyone who gives him a chance gets the chance to re-discover that late period Johnny Depp was not in fact cancelled but was already box office poison
His new film is indeed yet another straight remake of A Christmas Carol but the poster/tagline implies it's some origin story about young Scrooge and the image of Johnny "older than Michael Caine was when he starred in Muppet Christmas Carol" Depp trying to play a sexy young Ebenezer Scrooge is too awful to not play around with in your mind a little bit
