Someone asked me to do a GAX timeline, so here we go! I tried to integrate all the pertinent milestones. Tell me if there are any mistakes or things to add.
I'm going to update the tl from time to time! Enjoy!
Max and George met in karting.
-Max and George win the winter cup in their respective divisions.
-George already likes and comments on some of Max IG posts so it seems like they had a relatively good relation.
-Max first year in F1. George does a TB post on Twt about karting days alongside his old team mate Max.
-Someone asked me to add the shared ex-girlfriend lore, so here we go Although there is no picture of them together, supposedly Max dated Seychelle DeVries, Nick's sister, in 2015. Then, George dated her from 2018 to 2020.
George's first year in F1. They are friendly in group.
-Styrian GP: Following the Syrian GP where Alex Albon, driving alongside Max in RB back then, finished 11th, George commented:
"I've known Alex for the past 15 years, been in the same paddock as him, he's one of the best drivers we've all raced... Max, Charles, all of us would say it."
"He's been at the front of everything he's done," he continued. "I don't know what the hell is going on but I feel really bad for him because he's being made to look like an idiot and he's absolutely not.
"He's won everything he's done. So I don't know what's going on, but they need to sort it out for him."
Max then defended RB in the media saying:
"I think first of all George doesn't know anything about the team, I think it's better he just focuses on his car and his performance instead of speaking for someone else."
-Max asking Alex Albon in press-conference if George has sent him topless picture in his new Mercedes suit.
Spa: First George's podium after he qualified P2 and Max P1. The race was then cancelled after running under safety car from the beginning, meaning they kept their position. Cute joint interview .
Abu Dhabi: George twt about AB21 situation.
Spain: podium, good clean battle between the two of them on track to watch. Interview post-race where Max said he enjoyed the fight.
Baku: Russtapppen podium.
France: Russtapppen podium.
Hungary: First pole for George. Max congratulates him.
Zandvoort: Russtapppen podium. Cute interview.
Italy: Russtappen podium. Max got booed and George is supporting him.
Brazil: Great battle om-track between Max and George in the sprint, George overtakes Max and wins it. (George's first win sprint and main race).
Baku: their first negative altercation. George did a hole in Max's car. Max post-race confronts George, saying that he's a dickhead. In the media later, he's referring to George as Princess George.
Spain: Russtapppen podium, good on track battle between the two of them if you want to watch it.
Zandvoort: Pre-race Max is filming a video for McLaren and says to George that his hair is looking good, George answers that it's the "Dutch Special".
Abu Dhabi: Russtapppen podium. The interview post-race is worth watching to see their cute interactions.
That year, they played at least twice paddle together, once for Netflix.
Miami: The rumors of Max going to Mercedes begin in replacement to Lewis. George is asked about it and says that he wants to race in equal machinery against the best so "make it happen", he's also reitering that later during the year.
Monaco: Impromptu shared interview about boring Monaco. "One lap on foot"-GR, May 2024
Canada: They set the same time in Quali 1.12.00. George set it first so he takes pole and Max 2nd. During the race, George makes a mistake and finishes 3rd while Max first. Only Russtappen podium of 2024. Cute cooldown room. Max defending George.
George is doing another TB post about his karting days with Max on IG/Twt.
Las Vegas: Max wins his 4th championship (George is doing a congratulatory post to Max on Yet/IG at 5 a.m. in the morning and sees him in the bar at 9 a.m. in the hotel). George wins LV. Plenty of cute moments for you to find on video: Max grabbing George by the arm just to congratulate him on pole, their interaction in parc-fermé after the race, George in the media pen shuffling towards Max (chasing his PR girl on the other side by doing it 😂) and taking Max's coat to give him.
Qatar: biggest divorce (no arguments/opinions in this post about this subject please)
(sidenote, they were playing paddle "together" on Wednesday, they were not on the same court, but George was playing in tandem with Max's performance coach)
-Altercation without contact between them in Quali.
-Press conference post quali: they are joking about it, but you can see that they have different views on the matter directly.
-Stewards room and post stewards room where Max allegedly said that he's going to put his head in the wall. Max got a one place penalty
-George thinks everything is ok coming to the driver's parade on Sunday, but nope.
-Max takes pole at turn one, George finishes the race 4th.
-Media post-race: Max is saying that he lost respect, referring to George as a two-faced snake and a loser.
-Media day: George's speech Unnecessary anger and Borderline Violence.
-Max says in the fan zone that everything will be good between them, it will sort itself out (I saw this live, still have the video in my phone).
-Driver's dinner where George takes the chair and moves it across the room. Max then comments on Lando's picture of the night on IG "🥩".
- They are taking a picture side by side for the GPDA IG page where George looks like he is in a hostage situation restrained by Pierre's hand on his shoulder.
-Max says again that everything will sort itself out, that they only need to take time with their family. George is saying that it took way too much proportion.
2025 (way too much happened this year)
-The whole contract saga/Max to Mercedes, I will not give a timeline for that
February: F1 event in London.
-Max is asked about the state of his relationship with George, he answers everything's fine. George is asked if they talked and he said no, that there has been a limit crossed from Max's part last year and that they certainly won't be great friends again.
-Teasing in front of thousands from Jack Whitehall
Bahreïn pre-season testing:
-This information is not widely known, but according to Kym Illman, Jos and Max met privately George in their hotel and they were very civil, letting Jos think the feud between the two drivers was behind them.
-Russtappen podium. When asked in interview post-race "have you cleared the air yet", Max said "No, it's still shockingly bad...it's all good, it's all good" 😅😅😅
-Just them "having fun" in practice according to Oscar.
-They both finish in the top 3 in quali, George comes to handshake Max to everyone's surprise.
-During the race, George is in front of Max during a yellow flag. Max automatically tells GP to look if George has lifted for the yellow flag. George did some telepathy there and said "lifted for the yellow flag" while lifting, just to make sure there wouldn't be any doubt. 😅 Red Bull filled a complain to the FIA anyway (which was dismissed several hours later).
-For the second time in a year, they set the exact same time in Q1, 1.11.848. This time, Max sets it first for P3 while George crossed the line after for P4.
-During the race, there's a red flag and everyone is changing their tyres. Max, having used all his allocated soft and medium for the race is put on hard, starting his crash out of the year. After a snap, Charles is overtaking him, slightly pushing him on the straight. Then George also tries to overtake him on the inside, but snaps a little bit after getting into Charles' dirty air, tapping Max on the side, who now needs to cut the corner on the grass. GP then advised Max to let George pass (for nothing) and Max let George pass before accelerating to purposely tap him. Max gets a 10 seconds penalty.
He then later posted this message on IG.
Max then said in an interview around Mexico :
"That moment in Barcelona was certainly not good, but there’s nothing I can do about it now," he said. "Maybe it’s also a good thing it happened. You shouldn’t forget why I did it - I was frustrated, because I cared. If I didn’t care, I would’ve said: ’Just pass me and sort it out.’
I will advise you to watch all of it because there's too much details to all named them here, but here's a brief list:
-George gets pole, Max 2nd; George teases Max about penalty points: Them joking in press-conference post-quali; George leads the race; George brake test Max under yellow flag; podium Max giving a backshot of champagne to George; Max and George covering their mouth to speak during post-race interview; stewards for brake test (Max wasn't aware); walk awkwardly to the paddock together afterwards.
Monaco: Both of them (mainly George) still crashing out about boring Monaco one year later, but separately this time. "You could throw bananas around" -MV, June 2025
Max saying that George is beautiful during the fanzone, George being backstage during that.
Belgium: Or as I like to call it, umbrella gate. Because being normal around each other is too much to ask apparently.
George arrives in the fanzone early. Red Bull arrives at the stage, they shake hands (again awkwardly). Going to the stage, Max asked George if he wanted to join them (something like that) and George jockingly says that he's just going to watch him (????!!!!).
Russtappen podium while George is sick and sounds like Darth Vader. While in press conference, George refers to Red Bull as "Team Verstappen" and his brain then completely shuts down.
Like Canada, I advise you to watch everything from this week-end, but here's a brief recap:
-Pole from George, Max 2nd; in press conference post-quali, Max does a tirade against the cooling vest and George then teases him, then later, Max implies that the walls are moving to explain why George is crashing in Singapore; post-race: Max is looking fondly at George who is agonizing on the floor; George propose (ish) to Max during the joint interview; podium: Max decided to go full on facial with the champagne this time.
- During the sprint, George tries to overtake Max and Max needs to take avoiding action, but he isn't mad.
-During the sprint celebration, they are reacting way too much at Carlos saying that he can take both at the same time. 😂😂
-On track, Max completely goes on the grass at the first corner, gaining a lasting advantage (with many other drivers including Charles and Kimi). George goes on the radio twice saying that it's a lasting advantage. Six laps later, Max goes on the grass in a battle with Lewis. While rejoining, it forces George to take evading actions on the grass, losing 2 more positions. He then goes on the radio saying: "That kid's a fucking joke" about Max. (DYING here 😭🤣) .
Definitely in the top 5 Russtappen moments: while doing the driver's parade, the mini Mercedes car breaks down the road. Red Bull slows down to see what is going on and George decides casually to join them while letting Kimi go with Hulk. Video here. When asked at the end of the parade, George says with the biggest smile while giggling with Max that it was "an unpleasant experience".
LAS VEGAS: Russtappen podium.
Since Max needed someone in the race to separate him from the McLaren, George subtly goes on his team radio to ask Max for a tow in quali, which he ends up not receiving. 🤣
