When nerves start to addle her brain, her first instinct is to bite into the soft flesh of her lower lip. She finds that the action helps to steady the shaking of hands and stop the fidgeting footsteps. However, one simple bite turns into a a couple of small nips until she ends up going into full on nibble mode! 

She has yet to bite hard enough to draw blood — after all, the discovery of her remarkable healing abilities is a constant fear — but often after a severe case of nerves, she finds her lips slightly swollen.

Hmm. Well, yours I’ll probably keep. I just needa cut it down a bit is all. I think some may be months old even and gosh. I don’t mean to make people wait. It’s usually lack of motivation really but the number that I owe intimidates me at times. Then there’s some that I gain inspiration for over time but I can’t keep people waiting forever..

Heart hammering against her ribcage, it felt as if the lump of muscles had pushed its way up into her throat. Gulping in air, it was so very hard to breath. Her tongue felt far too big for her mouth and she knew she was gagging; horrible little retching noises filled the small room as her fingers buried deeper into the heavy fabric. Her eyes watering with unshed tears, Chizuru fought to hold them in — to hide the fear bubbling up inside her, roiling just beneath her skin and raising her hair on end. She knew she was blinking rapidly to halt the trail of tears before it even began and she knew that she must look ridiculous with droplets of moisture sticking to her eyelashes causing them to clump together. Yet, the young oni couldn’t stop her petite frame from trembling. Hiccuping softly, as she fought to breathe evenly, Chizuru held fast to the other as she folded inwards. "S-Sorry," she mumbled. Shoulders shaking, the younger brunette bit down hard on her lip in an attempt to quell her shivering — to quash her fear. 

She could still feel it though, the sinewy musculature of Kazama’s arm wrapped around her abdomen as he brought her in close. His grip underneath her chin as he stared at her with those red eyes still throbbed. Too close. Tonight had been far too close. He’d come to take her and he’d almost succeeded. Fear had crawled into her body to nestle just beneath her flesh only to gnaw at what she had thought was a safe haven of sorts. The Shinsengumi Headquarters had become her home. There were people she cared for here. But what if she lost that security? …what if it was forcibly stolen?Another whimper slipped past clenched teeth. “O-Okita-san,” she wheezed, “p-please don’t let them…” Cut off abruptly as she choked on her own saliva, Chizuru clenched her eyes shut. Blindly, she groped for the other’s hands. Gripping them tightly, she brought the long digits to her mouth to press light kisses into the calloused flesh. The rough skin beneath her lips soon had her body sagging and her head drooping. Such strong hands would surely save her. With another peck to each fingertip, the demon girl knew that she was a burden. Her presence was troublesome. “I’m so sorry,” she puffed once more as she held her eyes shut against the world.

It would absolutely be a lie to say the host club wasn’t ridiculous in its own right, especially when it came to some of Tamaki’s more extravagant ideas. But it would also be incorrect to say the club wasn’t a success, so surely they were doing something right. Of course, their scope was limited to current students, so how the general populace would respond to such a thing, they couldn’t be certain. And this girl was part of that general populace who was, as of yet, unexposed to the club.

But she did seem to be smiling a fair amount…the business-oriented part of Kyouya’s mind (which was less than he liked to pretend it was) wondered if they might have a new guest should she be accepted into the school. Truly, though, the best part of the host club was that it came about because of Tamaki, who had been essential in Kyouya coming into his own. Not that he talked about that openly, but talking up the club was easy enough and could be justified as something business-like.

He grinned graciously at Chizuru’s comment. “You’re right, there is some work that goes into it - planning, organizing and the like.” Most of which was, in fact, done by him. “So I suppose the vote of blind confidence is appreciated.”

As she finished answering his question, the office came into view, but he carried on the conversation for the time being. “A surgeon? I see. In that case, it’s quite possible your father was hired by one of the hospitals stocked with medical supplies by my family’s company. In fact, we’re involved with most nearby hospitals, so it’s likely your father will be working with mine to some degree. Quite the coincidence, isn’t it?” He smiled.

Once again, his otherwise unnecessary-to-business socializing could be justified as networking. The host club - though namely Tamaki - was the exception to this. But of course he would keep up appearances and not say so to anyone else. He still had his own self image and his father’s expectations to uphold to some degree, after all.

As the two of them descended the stairs and the main office came into view, the conversation between the two of them seemed to lull. Thankfully, Chizuru felt that her silence was more comfortable than awkward -- which was nothing if not a small miracle. Sometimes it seemed as if the younger specialized in fumbling only to wind up with the proverbial foot in her mouth. So, while she had gotten lost in the massive school building, she couldn't help thinking that she was lucky to have run into such a helpful upperclassman. What with her tour most likely disbanded by this time, she appreciated having an insider to bounce questions off of. That and it made finding those pesky scholarship papers way easier! "Well," she mused, "I think any club requires some form of organizations and planning." It was no more than a murmured thought, but Chizuru couldn't help expanding on it a bit. "I don't think that it's blind confidence since such an odd club would surely need dedicated members and...uh... clientele." 

With the office drawing closer, Chizuru couldn't help the slight case of nerves building up within her. It would be just her luck that they'd be out of the forms she needs... However, the continued conversation acted as an excellent distraction. "Mhm, Dad's a surgeon!" Voice a bit too cheerful despite the number of friends she'd be leaving behind, she couldn't help the swell of pride. Her father was a good person and worked hard. He always had. "Wow, that's a funny coincidence! Does your family just deal with medical supplies?" Having entered the office, the young lady bounced anxiously from foot to foot as she shuffled around the main section looking for something looking like scholarship applications. They'd probably be in some kind of folder, but there wasn't anything obvious out in the open.

Kyouya only grinned. He knew full well the club was a crazy idea. That had been obvious to him since Tamaki had pitched it to him. But it was also why he had agreed to it. Even still, it was easy to get carried away speculating about what a club like that might do, he was sure.

"The school allows a number of boys with too much time on their hands to entertain young ladies with too much time on their hands on occasion, yes." Perhaps he ought to explain what kind of entertainment that entailed. But perhaps he could see what conclusions the girl would draw. "Of course, it’s not as though all high schools have such a thing, but I suppose the host club king’s enthusiasm was somewhat infectious…"

He knew there was a gap to be bridge between socio-economic status groups, which they still hadn’t quite done with Haruhi, but…with time, things made more sense. Time and effort. But that was what it took to accomplish anything, wasn’t it? So if this girl was willing to put forth those things, he saw no reason for her to not at least stand a chance. Of course, her capabilities would come into play when they determined whether or not to give her the scholarship, and he had no idea about those, but even still.

"As I said, it’s no problem. Perhaps you won’t mind me asking what brought you here."

As the taller male began to explain a bit more of the host club -- the club full of gorgeous men he was apparently a member of, Chizuru found herself trying to keep a giggle in. To let it bubble out in a tinkling, melodic slip of the tongue would...probably be upsetting. The taller male spoke of the club with such fondness, albeit weary appreciation, she'd feel terrible if she mocked it.  While it did sound, well...rather strange...to her, who was she to question their hard work? The school had allowed the club to pass, so the entertainment that was provided couldn't be...too bad, right?  Despite her hesitance, the smile the other's words provoked was genuine. "It sounds like you have a lot of fun, Kyouya-senpai." A soft giggle before her smile softens once again into a semblance of neutrality and Chizuru speaks again, "You say that you have too much time on your hands, but I'm sure your work is appreciated."

Scratching at her cheek nervously as the two of them continue down the hallway, the shorter girl tries to adjust her steps to that of his larger stride as best she can. For every single step, she steps twice -- keeping up, unwilling to allow the lavish atmosphere of the school to bring her down. After all, she had the right to be here just as anyone else did if she worked hard enough! She'd stay up late studying if she had to, but she'd get into Ouran High School one way or another! Perhaps it was the determination rolling off of her petite form in waves or maybe it was just simple curiosity, but whatever caused the boy to ask her, the question certainly caught her off guard. He didn't seem to be the type to concern himself with others, but maybe that was just her judging him because she was in a hoity toity school building? Wow, she certainly has been smiling a whole lot and her comes another one. "My father got a job offer in the area, so he's transferring here. He'll be working in one of the local hospitals as a surgeon." Shrugging her shoulders before continuing, Chizuru glances at the other as they come upon the stairs. "I could have stayed, but I know Dad would worry, so here I am!"

Commoner wasn’t an uncommon word to be heard around the school, so Kyouya didn’t think twice about using it. Beyond that, facts were facts, and it was namely a commoner that got into the school on a scholarship, or even just applied to do so. He could tell there was some kind of discomfort hovering, but he kept his calm, professional, but personable air.

"The host club. Typically, club members are male, but all students are welcome to visit during club hours. Of course, that invitation could be extended to you as well if you’d like to see one of the clubs the school has to offer.

"For now though, I would be happy to escort you to the office for the scholarship forms."

"Host club!?" Eyes wide and her mouth hanging open, Chizuru's surprise was more than evident. "Y-You mean the school allows such a frivolous club?" Gasping, her hand came up to cover her mouth quickly. "S-Sorry. I mean..." Biting down on her lip, the soft flesh reddens beneath her anxious nibbling. "I didn't know high school's could have host clubs."  Once again shuffling from foot to foot, Chizuru Yukimura feels her lack of knowledge -- knowledge concerning that of the overly wealthy -- hanging over her head, threatening to fall and crush her beneath its overbearing weight. Ouran High School had some of the best scores in the area and she knew her father would be pleased if she attended, but the gap between lifestyles was rather remarkable.  Thinking of her own household -- of her father and his hard work raising his daughter as a single parent, Chizuru couldn't help the fondness that seeped into her very core. Her father was a doctor and worked hard -- often taking on over time or the night shift so that she could have a comfortable life. Still, going to Ouran would be...difficult with only her father's income. A scholarship would make things more bearable for them both.  Yet, did she even want to go to a school so regimented by social hierarchy and wealth?  Bowing once again, Chizuru thanked the other. "Thanks." It was simple and straightforward. Common. She huffed in amusement. Wealth didn't determine the character of a person.

It would be unsurprising if this situation was putting the girl on edge some; it was all unfamiliar and she seemed to have lost track of time along with her group. Commoners in general, too, seemed to find the Ouran experience a bit surreal usually — at least at first. The same went when the situation was vice versa, but that was of no concern here and now. At any rate, this would be a situation Kyouya was well within his abilities to handle.

"It’s no problem at all." And he could only imagine how much more over the top it would be had Tamaki been in his position. "A pleasure to meet you." He let go of her hand and listened to what she had to say.

"Ah, a member of the club I help to manage—" read: run from the shadows "got in on a scholarship, so it’s certainly possible for even a commoner to attend Ouran Academy. But as you said, not many are given out. If you’re looking to give that a shot, you should be able to pick up some forms to fill out."

Trying to keep her smile from falling, Chizuru could feel her lips tighten at the other's words. A commoner. He had called her a commoner. The upturn her lips slightly felt somewhat forced. "I'll just have to pick up some forms on my way out then!" Still, awkwardness seemed to cover her like a blanket. 

The urge to be polite strung Chizuru along. "Oh? Which club?" Voice light, she shifted from foot to foot. "Trying to recruit me?" A soft chuckle slipped past her lips as she tried to defuse the tension she feared may form between the two of them.  "Um." The brunette faltered once more. "C-Could you please help me find the main office? I'd like to pick up some of those forms."

She didn’t seem too terribly out of sorts, but even if she had been, he was fairly used to dealing with things like that cordially. He might not be the most popular host, but he knew how to play the part.

At any rate, her situation was more or less what he had expected it to be. “I see,” he said, adjusting his glasses. “Well, I believe tours are normally done by this time…”

"However, I’m a second year student here. I should be able to help with anything you might still like to see or any questions you’d like to ask. My name is Kyouya Ootori, by the way." He offered a hand to shake hers as he introduced himself and waited for her to return the favor. He might not normally go out of his way for this sort of thing, but every now and then he knew it could be worth the effort.

Pushing stray strands of hair behind her ear, Chizuru cannot help the nervous bite to her lip as her smile falters. Was it really that late already? The urge to pull out her phone to check the time crawled up her spine; her fingers twitched ever-so-slightly. It would be rude to pull out her phone in front of someone who is taking time out of their day to help her.  Clearing her throat, Chizuru could feel the muscles in her face attempting to produce another smile. She feared it looked something more like a grimace, embarrassment contorting her features into something less than grateful.

"It would appear that I missed my tour then." The shorter blinks before bowing to the man before her. "Thank you so much for your help."  Only after she has righted herself again does she worry about whether or not she was being too formal. Another hesitant smile graces her lips before she stretches her hand out to meet that of Kyouya's. "Chizuru. Yukimura Chizuru. I'm a first year moving her soon, so I was hoping to learn more about any potential scholarships offered by your school." Another nervous giggle before she tugs on the end of her ponytail. "I understand that there aren't many, but you never know unless you try!"

Among the stragglers still in the school, Kyouya noticed someone who seemed distinctly less familiar with the place. He knew that sometimes tours were given for those thinking about enrolling, but if memory served, those were normally over by now…

No harm in his leisurely walk out of the school taking him past this seemingly troubled individual, he figured.

He put on his friendly, hostly smile and approached her. “I can’t help but notice you seem a bit lost. Is there something I can help you with?” It was always worth giving the school a good reputation and having a word in for the host club should someone enroll. It might mean increased traffic. Being welcoming was usually to one’s advantage.

"O-Oh!" Her voice was breathless as she turned to face the other, her shoulders tight with nerves. Pink tinged Chizuru's cheeks as she attempted to fight down her embarrassment. A weak smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she gazed up at the taller male. "I'm afraid I'm lost. I was with a tour group not too long ago..." Trailing off, the  shorter girl averts her gaze, the pinkness of her cheeks spreading up into her ears.  Staring at her shoes, the brunette looked up through her eyelashes at the other's rather disarming smile. It was...charming.  Bowing her head before meeting his eyes once more, Chizuru stomped down on her embarrassment with a wide smile of her own. "I could of sworn they said they were going to the west wing, but it seems I'm in the wrong place. Ouran High School is far larger than I thought!" A giggle burbled up from her throat.
