Niall knew the moment he walked into the house that something was off. He could tell by the way no lights were on in the living room, no candle was lit in the entryway and there wasn’t the smell of whatever recipe you were trying out that night coming from the kitchen. What he did notice was a dim light coming from the master bedroom. So he slipped out of his shoes and ran a hand through his hair as he made his way down the hall.
When he reached the bedroom he could smell the faint scent of lavender, and he knew that could only mean one thing. You were in the bath, but not just a regular bath, he knew you only used your oils and bath bombs when you needed to destress and relax. Niall quickly poked his head into the bathroom and when he saw you laying neck deep in the What seemed to be purple tinted water he couldn’t help but smile. You looked so at peace and relaxed that he didn’t want to disturb you.
It wasn’t until he heard the faint sound of you humming that he took a full step into the bathroom. You had your eyes closed and your foot was tapping to the beat of the song that was playing through your wireless headphones. Niall knew the song, knew it very well in fact because he was the one who wrote it.
“Since we’re alone,” your voice was soft and barley above a whisper. “You can show me your heart.” Niall couldn’t help but grin at the sound of you singing one of his songs.
He slipped out of his clothes as quietly as possible trying not to disturb you. He gently tapped on your foot that was poking out of the water, when you jumped slightly he just chuckled. Your eyes flew open and when you saw Niall motioning towards your legs you grinned at him as you made room for him to get in the tub.
“Didn’t hear you come in.” You told him as you took your headphones out and placed them on the edge of the tub. Niall just smiled as he sat between your legs while his went on each side of your hips.
“S’okay, quite enjoyed yer singin.” You felt his hands on your hips pulling you towards him causing the water to slosh around you. “Never get enough of ya singing me songs.” He whispered in your ear as you wrapped your arms around his neck.
“Was having an off day and i needed to hear your voice.” You admitted as he placed a kiss to the top of your shoulder. When he looked at you it was as if he was looking at a work of art the way he titled his head and had a semi serious look on his face. He brought his hand up to cup your cheek gently.
“What’s wrong my love?” The slight worry in his tone made you just turn your face so you could place a kiss to the palm of his hand. “You can talk to me.” You could help but smile as he sang the line from the song you were just listening to.
“Just had one of those days,” you placed your hand over his that was still cupping your face. “Your songs help a lot, i listen to them when you’re not here because the lyrics are exactly what i know you’d say if you were.” Niall brought his other hand and placed it on your other cheek while he just stared at you for a moment.
“If you get lost in the light it’s okay,” You swallowed the lump you could feel forming in your throat as he spoke. “I can see in the dark.” You felt the stinging sensation in your eyes as Niall leaned down and placed a slow sweet kiss to your lips.
When he pulled away he just gently swiped his thumbs under your eyes as a few tears fell. You gave him a small sad smile as he just looked at you and held you in his hands as if you were made of glass and if he was too rough you’d break. He placed sweet little kisses on your cheeks, nose, forehead and finally one on your lips.
“I love you petal.” His voice was low as he rested his forehead against yours causing you to just smile at him. “Always here fo ya.” You leaned forward just a bit so you could place a quick kiss to his lips causing a smile to form on his face.
“I love you too Ni.” You whispered as you closed your eyes, you just wanted to take in the moment. You just couldn’t help but wonder how you got so lucky, even when you had a bad day and he wasn’t around physically his songs and voice could lift you back up. Then when he was home and found you in one of your moods he didn’t just ignore you, he took the time to let you know he was there and willing to listen. At the end of the day you and Niall and your love for each other was all that you needed.
