“Expand Consciousness"

No matter your relationship to me, there's something I feel I must confess: I am not who you think I am. Yes! I’m shouting into the void, but maybe I’ve got one person's attention. So if you, dear reader, would please stick around, maybe you’ll uncover who I am. 

I was a boy, born from the desert, raised by fear and terror, made to be deeply ashamed to be human, stripped of individuality and autonomy. I was sold an inferior lie, and I believed it true. While my youth wasn't truly that desperate, and my conditions not that dire, to me, a person living my reality, I was living a false life; I was robbed of the pleasure of discovery.

Taking life into my hands, I made MY choice. I took my leave. I had hoped to find clarity.

Life has always been a puzzle, longing to be solved. How poetic that one should make a symbolically grand odyssey, seeking rebirth, moving states away from home just in time to witness the start of the demise of the modern myth; “The Promise of America”, The American Dream, “...because you have to be asleep to believe it!”

Even more poetic that nearly six years later, I'd still be on a path to discover myself amidst all the wreckage and the calamity. Truth arrives at the most inopportune of times, but I have begun to reconcile with my truths. Regardless of the circumstances of the world, and despite the proverbial sword of damocles hanging over-head, I feel compelled to write this; change is indeed possible! Not just for me, nor for you, but for us; the collective that is Humanity.

There are those who share this feeling, the feeling that the world is in motion and that you are but a vessel lost to the endless void, aimlessly drifting with no purpose. But you know ultimately that the truth within is, you are capable of metamorphosis. You have the power to make ripples in the pond, and by proxy, to the lakes and seas!

Maybe you knew me by name, but I am not the name I was given; instead, I choose to evolve. Our words have so much power, and with that power, "There is no spoon". Whatever your relationship to me in the past, I am here now as someone who has begun their journey into the special world.

I was commissioned for this piece by my good friend, Jeremiah. This is actually the first time I have ever been commissioned for a piece! We both share a love for fantasy, so it was obvious that I had to make the coolest thing I could possibly scrap together. 

I was lucky enough to stumble upon a box with a plethora of old Dungeon magazines from the 80s-90s, filled with so many cool fantasy images and articles. This piece is 100% authentic old school nerd!

When I first started making collages in 22, I thought that I would just keep every piece I ever made, it never crossed my mind that anyone would even be interested in my “silly little art.” So this is a thank you to all my wonderful friends who have supported me and encouraged my work. I’m so lucky to have so many wonderful friends. I rolled a nat 20!

When they look back at us, how will we be seen? What will they say about this moment in time ten, fifty, even one hundred years from now? If anyone in the future were asking for even one soul's perspective, I would gladly lend you mine:

I am a being of feeling— I am in fact human, and we did happen to be prone to the occasional heartfelt cry, or burst of rage and all the cacophony that would ensue. The best I can give you, dear digital hologram viewer, is my personal feelings on the matter. The best way I can describe it; it's as if I were reverted as close as possible to my most basic primitive instincts, so as to be in a complete state of “Soul Domination.”

Everyday, there is an evergrowing blanket of anxiety cast overhead, looming, waiting to fall over the populous. Still, we persevere on and on, giving ourselves to the tide willingly, completely. Despite our brittle will, we still carry this empty husk over our backs, dragging our feet staining the path before us with blood and tears. 

All around can be heard pleas for help, cries for someone, something to come and save us, for an end to be put to this constant suffering.

So, Hologram Future Person, that is just one person's flash of this moment, and I highly doubt that provides a stable outlook on the situation, but hey, I’m not the one digging through trash looking for “retro holo-tapes” kiddo; that's all on you. Scavengers can’t be choosers. 

Here’s a neat trick for ya, go scavenge for some CD’s. All the wax vinyls will likely be melted away by the nuclear fallout, or the scorching heat death rays, or whatever the fuck killed us so don’t even bother; but if you can find a copy of Black Sabbaths “Masters of Reality,” you’re going to be like, the most cool digi-pocalypse scavenger thats ever roamed the face of this desolate Earth.

This house, this old house. It has memories of its own. It remembers a time before. It remembers the way that things used to be. This house remembers that elegant lamp, sitting in the corner collecting dust, the tattered and worn rug where many have come and gone, the run-down couch that smells of burnt cigarette and spilled black coffee, covered completely with stains and rips. This house is alive, and it remembers.

Many lives have lived within its boundaries, within its lifeforce. Many pairs of eyes have gazed upon its walls, many have seen its guts and gushing blood. How many more have never seen the corrosion of its paint, or the wobbled legs of the cabinets; how many more have never seen the matted carpet, or the chipped tile that exposes the rot that lies beneath?

This house, this old house. It remembers the sound of children playing in the hall, of mother and father shouting across the room, the cats purring and the dogs barking; the laughter, the tears, the moaning, the wailing, the violent stomping and smashing, the slamming of doors and windows—the silence.

And now, “After Life,” this house sits somewhere, someplace, a place beyond the reaches of the corporeal form. It floats, aimlessly drifting—eternally and forgotten.

But this house remembers—and unlike us, it will never forget.
