i have this rule about my tourette's, and i wanted to ask if its offensive or if its ok. is that cool?
You could ask, but if it’s a personal rule like setting a boundary for how other people interact with you or your Tourette's, or your own personal comfort level making jokes about it, then that’s your prerogative and it’s okay to set your own boundaries for your own disability.
If it’s something that you feel other people with tic disorders might find offensive or disagree with, think of the reasons why you have this rule for yourself and what it might mean for you and other people. If it’s a personal rule, you can explain that it’s something that feels right for you personally but doesn’t apply to everyone with tic disorders. At the end of the day, only you can decide what’s the right way to approach your Tourette’s, and I wouldn’t recommend looking to others to decide if that rule is right for you, they can only decide that for themselves. Hope that helps!
