I Swear (Kirk Jones, 2025)
5 things only tourettic people understand
The feeling of knowing a tic will stay or not
The relief of ticcing
Not knowing if it’s lingering echophenomena tics or becoming your tic vocabulary
Sensory issues
Not knowing if it’s a tic sometimes, because it’s automatic like breathing and mimics your everyday moves too
face tics got me looking like a little bunny scrunching its nose like yassss
Me, posting online: so I have tourette's
Some person I don't know: "omg I don't have tourette's but I have anxiety/ADHD/autism tics"
Another person I don't know: "I don't have tourette's but I do have [insert non-tic behavior]"
Another person I don't know: "I'm not diagnosed with tourettes but I have (lists tourette criteria subtly or outright asking me to diagnose them)"
ADHD anxiety and autism do not cause tics, I don't know why you're telling me about your non tic behaviors, and no I'm not gonna diagnose you see a doctor!!
being out of the house and or being exposed to more intense/unordinary stimuli can exacerbate tourette syndrome.
it could even cause a more prolonged bout of severity, even when returned home and or stimuli is reduced back to normal.
i was out of the house yesterday and was surrounded by grand stimuli for many hours, and while emotionally i was happy, my tics were exacerbated.
my arm would beat my chest hundreds of times. no exaggeration.
my vocal chords make these strange and bizarre loud sounds, and it would happen so many times so loudly for so long, my throat is extremely sore.
despite the soreness, bruises, and pain i endured and that i am left with, i don't regret leaving the house and i had a good time : ]
i can't handle experiencing this often, so i can't leave the house much, so i truly love the moments where i get to go out and see the world again, it always makes me happy.
I hate having disabilities that react poorly to stress.
