A Seattle, WA event for CodeAcross and International Open Data Day. CodeAcross Seattle, on February 22, is a full day of events for incubating civic innovation in our city. We're bringing together local governments, businesses, schools, and community organizations, as well as social service organizations, media outlets, foundations, and the public to collaborate on civic innovation that will help our residents and improve our region.

This week we had a special surprise visit from Sunlight Foundation folks, as well as participants in the awesome local training program Ada Developers Academy. And a lot of cool new faces in general!

2013 schedule
Code for Seattle will have a slightly wonky schedule for the remainder of 2013 to allow for holiday schedules. The next Wednesday meetup will be on December 4. There's also a SeattleWiki write-a-thon on December 7. SeattleWiki is a year old! Celebrate with us by hanging out and writing/hacking on the wiki.
The future: 2014 events
We'll be back to doing weekly meetups starting January 8. We're also planning out some big events for 2014. You can see and help with that planning in action in our 2014 event schedule.
Get in on it
Will Scott and I are currently the main organizers of Code for Seattle, but there are other positions in the organization that need to be filled.

nwdata.org is a new project I’m working on as part of Code for Seattle. It’s a directory of open civic data resources for the Pacific Northwest. I just started it, so there’s plenty of work to do. You should fork the repository for the site on GitHub and add what you know about open data in the northwest.
Big news for Code for Seattle! We're now an official Code for America brigade.
Today Code for America announced that Code for Seattle is one of the new official brigades (a brigade is pretty much like a chapter).
Code for Seattle is a local organization focused on addressing civic issues in Seattle with technology.
With this support from Code for America we'll be holding more and larger events over the next year focused on creating apps for sharing and understanding local government data, digital inclusion, and developing technology for increasing civic engagement in Seattle.
I'm interested in partnering with other local organizations to hold larger hackathons and similar events over the coming year, so please let me know if you have ideas for ways we can team up by emailing me at [email protected].

"In 2012, Code for America launched the Brigade program, enacting 16 local chapters. Today we’re excited to announce the addition of 15 new Brigades supported by 28 new Captains.
These Brigade Captains will work to collaborate with government to build and foster community where they live. Each Brigade has the support of a municipal partner in their local government. Working with this municipal partner and their Brigade, these Captains will help make their communities better using technology."

Célya Gruson-Daniel, co-founder of HackYourPhD will open with a short talk, introducing HackYourPhD and Open Science. Célya is based in Paris and has been touring the US, producing a web documentary of the Open Science community in America.
