wassup tumblr still alive. i have 3 weeks left of my undergrad til finals. feels kinda crazy. doesnt feel like that long ago i was on here dreaming of studying physics and astronomy in university and now im almost done. its definitely not going how i intended, and i really thought i would go on to get my PhD. but im happy with the (general) direction im headed. excited to start working.

officially finished my internship today. i guess i did well at it. im proud of what i did especially considering i knew very little about engineering itself going into it. it helped i was doing project engineering rather than something like CAD design (which i know nothing about) so i didn’t have to have a super technical role. but it was a good experience for me i think

my internship is going pretty well. it feels a little rough but i think its just because being new at anything stresses me out and the program im working on is just really dense with information that i really cant possibly all know. my mentor is really nice but i kinda wish i was micromanaged a little more? its nice that im kind of left to my own devices and able to work at my own pace generally, but i wish there was a bit more “checking in”. the chief engineer of my program is a woman and she’s super nice and i feel a  lot more comfortable with her, mostly just because she’s a woman so it feels like she knows how i feel a bit more. the other engineer that was a woman just quit so the only other woman engineer on my immediate program is her. and while i dont consciously care that im usually in a meeting with the chief engineer then a bunch of men, i think its still intimidating me. everyone is very nice but i just hate being the young college student, and i feel like i have even more to prove because im a physics major and not an engineering major.

Got my 4th year of classes all planned out, 1 math class (applied mathematics to waves in the oceans and atmosphere), 4 physics classes (time series analysis, computational modeling, geophysics, and nuclear physics) and 3 astronomy classes (cosmology, stellar astrophysics, and astrophysical processes) and then ill be all done with school!  Also I start my summer internship next monday in project engineering. thatll be interesting.
