They have serious health problems, are completely alone, have no current form of transport, and there is little we can do to help them at this point, being halfway around the world and strapped for cash. Hey everyone! I’m Alex, a twenty-something living in Scotland, who adopted Luan the kitten with my partner on July 27 2018. On this blog you will find frequent pics, updates, and anecdotes of his daily life, so please consider subscribing if you want more cats on your dashboard! I am also happy to answer questions if anyone’s curious about life with a deaf cat.

Here are some introductory facts about Luan:

He was born March 29 2018

He was born completely deaf

He is a domestic shorthair (we think)

His eyes are weird. I describe them as amber, but they have a slight greenish tint and there is green at the very centers of his irises. So maybe they’re hazel? Their color doesn’t show accurately on camera at all, however

He was known as Noah before we adopted him

His name is pronounced LOO-awn and it means “moon” in Scottish Gaelic

Before we adopted him, he was rehomed 6 times (every 2 weeks of his short life)

We received the news that we’d been chosen to be his paw-rents on Friday the 13th. He arrived the night of a full lunar eclipse. Ominous…?

We are teaching him hand signs to communicate with him

He is indoor-only but I plan on harness-training him so he can enjoy the outdoors in a safe way

He is one of the most confident and fearless cats I’ve ever met, while also being extremely cuddly

Some deaf cats are completely silent, while others are extremely noisy. He is somewhere in the middle: quiet but not completely silent, with a soft meow

As of when this was posted (August 8), he is just over 4 months old and TEETHING LIKE THE DEVIL

What do you yse for eyes in the bettas and where do you get them?

Hi, thx for the question. I use safety eyes from Cello Express, usually 9mm in clear, grey, or brown...but it all really depends on the fish I'm doing the design for.

I absolutely adore your crocheted betta. Can you tell me how I can commission one from you, or buy the pattern? How big is it?

Thanks so much! The betta commissions vary in size according to the type of betta, but are usually about 5-6". I plan on doing a basic pattern with different fin types later in the year.
