“honestly...” dani sighed taking a sip from the flask that was once her father’s before she claimed it for herself. “the lengths some people go to for the attention... spreading false rumours isn’t a great way to make friends, i’ll tell you that now.” dani nodded. she wasn’t acknowleging that what people were telling her could have been fact, not after lee... no. she wouldn’t allow it. “i was having a good time, why are you being an asshole?”
lillian would turn up as she did every year , even after a defeat . it was some normalcy in all of the chaos . as she greeted people , her eyes would wander off as she tried to locate her daughter ( that was probably up to no good ) but there was a sense of worry for her state as well as the danger that was around them . nursing a small drink in one hand , the woman sighed and turned towards the closest person . “this is exactly what we needed , as long as everyone stays close . it really feels like a community again .” she mused . “how have you been dealing with everything?” she would rather ask others about their experience than disclose her true feelings towards it all .
another muse and keeping it in the family with dani’s mother , lillian !
[ cis woman, she/her, son yejin , forty three ] i can’t be sure, but i think i just saw LILLIAN JO drive onto the parkway. don’t they know we’re not supposed to be driving on that haunted road right now? maybe it has to do with the fact that they’re so +AMBITIOUS and -NARCISSISTIC that makes them feel WARY about everything going on. i guess we could also chalk it up to the fact that they’re always reminding me of ANSWERING EMAILS MORNING, NOON AND NIGHT, EXTRAVAGANT JEWELRY AND A TENDENCY TO LOOK THE OTHER WAY. either way, i hope they get back safely. lillian’s first generation korean-american from manhattan. she was lucky to be born into wealth and have it passed down to her too easily. her parents never pushed her but they didn’t need to - lillian pushed herself all on her own. she never cared much for the learning aspect or having knowledge, she was just competitive and wanted to be the best at everthing - to the point where she became an annoyance to her peers.
driven by success, it was to no one’s surprise that she wanted to go to law school. thankfull for her, she had an abundance of funds to do so, to go to ivy league schools and be set up for life. her support system was always taken for granted but she never had any reason to really appreciate things. lillian was a control freak and wanted it constantly. if things took her by surprise, she’d either just ignore it or face it head on and come up with a solution, there was never any in between.
while at yale, she met her husband. he had real ambition, much like her own and they hit it off. her was going to be a doctor and she a great lawyer. there was nothing that they couldn’t do. it was never a healthy relationship as they enjoyed pushing each other but when lillian became pregnant during her first year at work, they made the decision to get married. lillian was old school and she wanted that; she was always about keeping up appearances. a shot gun wedding they call it, and for good reason too. she was in control and from where she was standing, she had a great job, a husband and a child on the way and she would have it all.
however, what she didn’t understand was that some things had to give. by choosing to further her career, she chose her job over her daighter, dani. she loved her so much but wasn’t a fan of being mushy (the girl was a bit too loud for her liking and required a stern hand) but that just lead to rebellion later down the line. she did think once or twice that being a mother was not for her but it was her own doing. she felt awful for acknowledging it considering she couldn’t think of her life without her daughter, but she was always honest with herself.
she climbed up the ranks at work, reed was easy to dominate from that side of things but was always looking for more. the first time she thought about running for mayor was the evening that lee had brought her daughter home drunk out of her mind. it was really alarming and she could tell the girl had been crying but she didn’t want to push her. instead, she was the one to look after her. she had an incling her husband was going behind her back but she didn’t want to believe it. lillian chose to ignore it until dani was intoxicated again and leaked it. she was devastated when he moved out shortly after and proceeded to lie about it. she didn’t want to be a failure. her daughter’s behaviour wasn’t excusable, she was worried and she couldn’t fix it.
what people didn’t realise was that keeping up appearances was taking its toll on her. she became more aggitated and wasn’t a pleasure to be around for the most part, only donning a smile at functions while acting like a model citizen. she felt like she was losing everything so that’s when she decided that she’d run for mayor. her husband owed her that much so he moved back in for her campaign. everyone smiled and she was full of confidence that made her fall so much harder. lillian lost the election, her husband moved out and she was left a failure. she was always scared of being one and now she had failed at everything. she wasn’t a failure but everything was a recipe for disaster - she should have known better.
lillian was shocked when the murders started happening. her initial reaction was why were people there in the first place but that was her way of seeing everything in black and white. it was even more shocking when she heard that lee parker’s body had been discovered. dani had fallen out with him the night of his death, for all she knew, she was the last one that saw him alive. however she didn’t tell the police nor did she try to persuade dani to tell them. the girl had been through too much, her best friend was killed and the last thing she wanted to do was push her. her daughter needed her and she needed to step up and protect her.
hi everyone ! too excited this is back and i get to play my fave muse ever ( with a new face but still ) . i’d love to plot with all of you !
[ cis woman, she/her, shin ryujin , nineteen ] i can’t be sure, but i think i just saw DANIELA ‘DANI’ JO drive onto the parkway. don’t they know we’re not supposed to be driving on that haunted road right now? maybe it has to do with the fact that they’re so +HUMOROUS and -IMPULSIVE that makes them feel DISTRAUGHT about everything going on. i guess we could also chalk it up to the fact that they’re always reminding me of OVERSIZED JACKETS, NEON EYELINER, AND TURNING UP HER MUSIC TOO LOUD ON PURPOSE. either way, i hope they get back safely. infidelity, alcohol and death mentions !
dani grew up priviledged, that’s obvious when people meet her. there was never any struggle for her family in terms of money and money was flushed down the drain when she was younger on things that she didn’t really need. her mother and father respected professionals, they had more than enough money to accommodate her and her older sister. being the baby of the family, she definitely got away with more. she was louder than anyone else, more confident in herself and while her parents tried to silence her at times, it just didn’t work.
her mother wasn’t the most hands-on parent, none of her parents were. while her mother was climbing up the ranks in her job she worked at, a nanny was left to raise her. dani did miss both her parents while they were at work. she would cry and as she grew, it dawned on her that they never spent much time together as a family. oh, what she would have given for them all to snuggle up to each other on a friday night. although they put on smiles for parties, they really weren’t the cohesive unit everyone believed them to be ...
she was innocent growing up. knowing nothing about her wealth had been a good thing up until she started middle school and it was everyone for themselves. family mattered and money mattered. she was shoved into the box of being a jo and felt herself surrounded by people that wanted to use her more than they wanted to be her friend. her confidence seemed to depleat - she couldn’t tell others what she really thought of them as it woud cost her friendships ( she didn’t care if they were fake ).
however, there was always one person that she felt like she had a solid relationship with and that was lee parker. even though dani was in the year above, their friendship blossomed - it was on the back of making fun of each other but that’s what she needed, to laugh and be distracted to the point of taking her eye off her family situation and forgetting about it. the girl did feel a little odd in her social circle, naturally falling in with those who gossiped and made fun of others; she was slightly eccentric but tried to push that side right down. dani was devoted to lee , she would follow him everywhere and while that probably came across as her being one of his followers , he did genuinely like her so at least she had that.
it was so easy for the once confident girl to be influenced those around her. dani didn’t want to be rejected by her ‘ friends ’ and certainly not luke so she would even join in on some of the ridiculing that took place. her parents were less than pleased when it was brought to their attention so after that, she just made sure that there were little witnesses when lee was vile to others. she felt like her parents couldn’t tell her how to behave seen as they weren’t really around much - she didn’t show much regard for them. they gave her a good reason to ...
one day in high school of her senior year, dani and lee decided to ditch class and go back to her house to raid the liquor cabinet, only to come cross what looked to be her father with his pants around her ankles and one of the neighbors. dani was horrified and lee was shocked. she still ended up taking the alcohol for them to retreat somewhere else. lee was there for her when she was in tears, drowing her sorrows and then returned her home when she was absolutely wasted. she knew what lee was like and while he was her best friend , he did have a streak , a nasty one that could reveal everything at any moment. he promised that he wouldn’t and that was enough for her.
she didn’t tell her mother what she had seen even though she knew something must have happened for dani to get in such a state that evening. when her mother caught on ( she actually told her when she was drunk ) and her father left, it was business as usual for them. she continued going to school and was maybe a little more reckless and more up for a good time than she had been previously but no stain was left on the family name. she was one person that distracted lee from his duties ; if it was just a drive to the middle of nowhere or chilling outside, he was up for it. they were very spontaneous. people joked to say that they were secrety dating but they weren’t like that - they were bros and would always be just that - at least that’s what she had thought.
since her father left, her mother had tried to be more supportive of her and spend time with her. it was beneficial to her and now keeping up appearances of all things was going to take that away from her. lillian jo announced that she was running for mayor and dani hated it. the woman was never happy with what she had, always wanted more and pushed her daughter to the side lines because of it. however, she wasn’t going to act out to stop that from happening. what she couldn’t understand was why her father moved back in. the set up messed with her head, smiling for the public when they could barely look at each other. dani fought with her dad more than ever, still so angry for what she had seen. she had been too young to see that and he had let it happen. lee was the one to make light of the situation and helped her deal with it ( it was a bad comedy plot, at best ). her best friend couldn’t have been more supportive of her.
her mother lost the election and her father left again, her head was all over the place and she was a cliché by dying her hair every color under the sun. she would join lee in causing trouble... maybe now she was doing it for attention. however, when she did something, she’d always blame lee for it... he did not take kindly to this and he started to dislike her. distracted by everything, her grades slipped massively and she ended up having to repeat a year.
dani couldn’t wait to graduate. she got accepted to university to study spanish. however, she was worried about how she could continue to see lee when they were both busy with different things.
the evening of lee’s death, they had a fight that escalated so much so that he threatened to tell everyone at school about the day they walked in on her father, and his choice of words were not the nicest. dani lost it, she was so angry but ended up begging him not to tell anyone. he rejected her plea and in turn rejected her as his best friend.
she went home crying to her mother and the next day, lee was dead. WHAT ? she hoped that there would be a chance to sort things out with him but he suffered a health complication and he was just gone...
everything is shit and know she doesn’t know what to do . she hasn’t told anyone about what happened that night, apart from her mother. she feels so bad that it was the last conversation she had with him. despite them arguing , they did have a really good friendship and his antics were the only thing keeping her together.
