This week its World Water Week. It’s a global conference held annually in Stockholm, Sweden where representatives from around the world discuss ways to address the shortage of clean water for people all around the world. Providing access to clean water is part of what WELLFOUND is about and since 2005 we have committed 100% of all donations directly into our projects. However, globally there are still so many suffering in poor conditions. Here are some of the facts: - Globally, about a billion people lack steady access to clean drinking water - “More than 80% of sewage in developing countries is discharged untreated, polluting rivers, lakes and coastal areas.” UN World Water Development Report, 2009 …these water source also supply water for domestic use including drinking! - As many as 40% of the Sub-Saharan countries could lose a substantial part of their agricultural production due to climate change. SIWI, 2005 WellFound with your help will fight this. (Photo: Finbarr OReilley/Reuters) The conditions and infrastructure, or lack of it, in some communities we (Wellfound) have come across are shocking. These pictures give a glimpse into the daily living conditions. Consequently, conditions like this result in poor literacy and community development, widespread water-borne disease and high infant mortality just to name a few. Being a water and sanitation charity, we are tackling these issues. We are currently working in Guinea Bissau, Senegal and Burkina Faso building wells that provide pumped water and installing latrines for communities who need them most but we can’t do this without your help! £6.00 will provide someone with water for life!!! Every little helps, so donate something today, spread the word, get involved. To find out more information click onto operationwellfound.org
Paulina Dgu said “My children often complained of stomach pains and missed school because of the dirty water they drink and collect down in the river and I had always gone into the bush for the toilet I never liked it, it was uncomfortable and embarrassing, But now things have changed we have a well which provides safe clean water to drink and latrines in the village thanks to WellFound our village is cleaner because I can wash in the latrine”.
I have more time for my children, grow crops and take care of my farm because the well is so close to us, and life is easier”.
We need to help more people like Paulina and with your support WellFound can provide clean safe water and sanitation in Africa.

Just imagine having to travel over 5 kilometres just to get to the water source and then carrying often 20 kilos (the allowance for our holiday luggage) back to your home.

In the East, West and South of Burkina Faso over 60,000 people are crucially in need of safe clean water and sanitation facilities.
The people have to walk long distances to find water, particularly women and children. There are no latrines, people use bushed or going behind their homes when it’s dark. This behavior is a good contamination factors and spread disease quickly.
