The more I think about I believe Mr. Kaplan knows the real Red’s identity. I think she knows he's not Liz's father. Also, she knows how much is important for Liz to know who her family. So why would she have sought to remove Liz from his father knowing this (by proposing to simulate his death or to tell him to leave Red). All this makes no sense. I do not understand ???
Kaplan knows Red’s real identity. She knows he is not the real Raymond Reddington. Remember she wanted to get Liz away from our Red. And Red being Liz’s father was not her secret because Kaplan knew that would bind Liz to Red if that was true. And you are right, Kaplan knew how important it was for Liz to know who her family was so she would not deprive her of that.
So what is it that Red is so afraid of Liz knowing? What could she find out that she would find so terrible that she would leave Red’s life? The bones tell the story. I think it’s a red herring to think they are Katarina’s bones. Liz already knows her mother is dead so that is not the big secret. And the bones are of an adult (some forensic experts chimed in on this in several of TBL Facebook groups). Myself and lots of fans think they are the bones of the real Raymond Reddington - Liz’s father. Our Red does not want Liz to know that he is not the real Raymond Reddington. If Liz found out our Red was impersonating her father and finds out why (Dembe and Red indicated what Red is doing is part of a mission) Liz would be furious (at first) could very well leave Red forever.
Even if these aren’t the bones of Raymond Reddington, they are a clue that will eventually lead Liz to the truth - our Red is not her father. Remember Red does not lie to Liz and he told her very directly on several occasions that her father is dead. Also the writers and producers have said the same thing. I strongly believe that in the end we will find out that Red didn’t lie, nor did TPTB about this. And wouldn’t that be awesome? And wouldn’t it be more awesome to verify that Red is not a monster who let his “daughter” think she shot and killed her father and that her mother committed suicide because of it? I think it would.
