What are some Cast Recordings you recommend?

I have to ask, what are some cast recordings you would recommend? Broadway Vs. West End? Revival vs. OG?

For me I would have to say:

I have to recommend the 2008 A Chorus Line Recording and the OG Sunset Boulevard. With A Chorus Line, I love that this recording has a lot more dialogue snippets than the original so it's easier for people to understand why Cassie is singled out and why her solo is as impactful as it is. There's also just a lot of funny lines. I get why they don't include Paul's monologue but it would've hit home. I am praying that a revival comes to Broadway considering its 50th anniversary of the OG was recently! + perhaps a proshot.

For Sunset, I just find Glenn Close to be a better Norma Desmond. It fits the premise of the original film too. The idea of a silent movie star refusing to let go of the past and succumb to that early morning madness is perfectly captivated by Glenn's delivery and performance on stage. (I recommend viewing the 2017 recording where she's older as well). I also adore the musical leaning into the camp that a lot of ALW musicals have, which I feel is missing in the revival.  Idk, I just love Close's Norma Desmond and feel it needs more attention. here's to hoping for that Sunset Boulevard movie to just come out already.

If I had a nickel for the times I was in the NJ/NY area and missed a chance to see a non rep revival of a musical I was obsessed with, I would have two nickels.

Which isn’t a lot but it’s not surprising that it happened twice. (Cabaret at the KitKat Club, Cats: The Jellicle Ball)

I was in the area and could’ve seen Cabaret at the KitKat club when it was there. Issue was that I was with family, who already had plans.

While I am glad to have seen Ragtime as my first Broadway show considering a local prod was ny first live show, I honestly wish I could’ve seized the chance to see these two revivals when they were here.

I don’t care much about if they compare to the OG productions, I love how unique and nonconforming these two productions were. I think it would’ve been great to experience in person.

Oh well, guess my hope is to win the lottery and go to the West End for Cabaret there and perhaps Regent’s Park Cats.
