“Take a bath. Spare towel inside the cabinet. Clothes in my room.” Johan doesn’t even look at the man in his living room as he spoke, eyes averting his gaze. “You know where it is, right?”, he asks, but really, he doesn’t even need the answer.
He think it’s crazy how he’s fidgeting in his own living room, but he can’t help it. That’s why he doesn’t move an inch, refusing to show any signs of anxiety to his unexpected visitor. He listens intently, waiting for the footsteps to fade, door to the bathroom open and close, and then he lets out a deep sigh.
He hates this situation. He’s supposed to. It’s just that… Johan really can’t hate the guy.

It’s a peaceful Wednesday afternoon in Gangbuk. The streets are practically empty with everyone else losing their heads at school or slaving away at work. It also happens to be Johan’s favorite time to go outside, watch the scenery by the river and clear his head after a good jog with Eden and Miro.
See, Johan hates that cult shit but he’s still a firm believer in superstitions. That’s why he’s beating himself up for not trusting his gut when the clouds got heavier. Should’ve just gone home. But Eden and Miro both had their ‘accidents’ on their way home, giving Johan some fur dad and proper civilian duties he had to fulfill.
“First, Eden, and now you?” he scolded Miro with a gentle voice. “You should’ve just gone with Eden so I didn’t have to clean up twice.”
“Hey now, Miro’s getting scared of his dad.” Johan froze.
It’s been so long since he’s heard that voice, but he’ll be able to recognize that voice any day. A familiar deep voice that’s comforted him many times in the past. He’s always loved the warmth in that voice.
“Skipping school?” Johan turned to the other man, and god, he was delighted at the view. He tried his best not to show it, though, and it took him a lot of effort. Zack ditched his usual hairstyle and went back to the ‘athletic’ haircut he used to have when he was training.
“Yep. Faked an injury.” Zack let out a bashful giggle.
It was almost too soft to be heard, but this was Johan’s favorite thing with Zack. Everything just felt… easy. He’s a firm believer of investing in pillows and mattresses, but at the end of the day Johan knew that it’s only with Zack’s company that he finds the most comfort. He missed this. He can’t show it though.
Johan returned to his duties, turning back to the mess in front of him. After carefully cleaning up Miro’s deeds, his eyes searched for a nearby trash bin to dump the bag that holds Miro’s dump. He looked straight at the trash bin, though aware that Zack’s following him.
“What, not leaving?” Johan tried not to sound hostile, but he didn’t want to be friendly with Zack either. He’s a little embarrassed for turning down his calls and disappearing on him without good reason, but he’s not in the mood to explain either. He wishes mending things was easy, he wishes he didn’t have to say a word, but he also knows that’s unfair to his best friend.
“Johan…”
He refused to say a word. Zack can do the talking if he still needs anything. Johan was doing so well in trying to avoid further contact with him… until he made the move of meeting Zack’s eyes. At the same moment, the wind blew hard enough to shake some tree branches. Cherry blossom petals filled the surroundings, and he’s never seen Gangbuk this beautiful. Zack’s magic, probably.
His mind was too busy processing the sight in front of him, too busy to take this as a bad omen.
“Why don’t we catch up? You’re still my best friend, you know.”
It started to rain.

Right now, Johan can’t even sit on his couch because they ended up soaking wet from the rain. He’s just pacing his living room in an attempt to clear his head. God, it’s not working. He cannot get his mind out from the fact that Zack’s in his house, taking a shower. It feels too… familiar. Feels too nostalgic. He hates it so much, because it makes Johan want to drop everything and just go back.
Johan’s currently crouching in his living room, shivering from the cold. He’s still wet. But he’s too wrapped up in his own thoughts to do anything about it, situation at hand triggering his fight-or-flight response. Should I just leave? What excuse should I make though? Wait, why would I need an excuse, it’s just Zack. Zack might think I’m an asshole. Well, he’s free to think that way, I don’t care. Ah, fuck, no.
Click.
“Johan, your turn – why are you crouched in there?” Johan can hear Zack’s footsteps getting closer. Don’t panic. This is panicking though? Fuck, am I panicking?
“Yo, if you didn’t have a towel out here, why didn’t you just say so?” Zack continues to pry, and Johan internally prays to all the gods, even the fucking Pungsan dog, that the rain stops at this moment so that he can send him off.
Worried about the lack of response, Zack crouches in front of a panicked Johan, forcing their eyes to meet.
“What’s up with you?”
And his eyes might be faulty but he’s sure of this sight in front of him. It’s Zack. It’s his best friend that he loved so much, wearing the pieces of clothing that screams Johan Seong.
Of all the clothes in Johan’s room, Zack could have picked something else. Zack should have picked something else. So why is he in front of Johan right now, with the shortest gray boxer shorts Johan ever owned, and the fucking God Dog hoodie?
He’s not sure whether his vision is getting worse, or this is the actual cure.
Oh my god. Johan internally screams, and if it’s the Pungsan Dog is the god that gets to hear it, he doesn’t even care at that moment.
“Bath!” Zack throws a towel at his face. He’s aware that he still hasn’t responded, but he really doesn’t have the words. He just looks at him and nods. The cold air from outside hits both of them, and he watches Zack’s face contort, shivering from the cold, but Johan remains still. Zack’s magic, he thinks. His best friend’s always been his warmth.
Johan stands up and makes way to the bathroom. He hopes he’ll be able to get a piece of sanity while in the shower. He can hear Zack plopping on his couch and playing with Eden and Miro.
“Ah, I like your couch so much!” He really just says anything that comes to mind, Johan thinks. “I love Eden and Miro too. I think the God Dog hoodie should have just been their faces.” Zack keeps blabbering despite Johan being out of sight.
“I really like this hoodie, Johan!” Zack continues. “So comfortable!”
Johan takes one last peek at his living room and smiles.
It’s comfortable.
It’s always been comforting with you.
