@ordinary-56
How are you feeling after last nights LOD? I’m still pretty disappointed by the ending of it all x
You and me both. It’s been a long time since I’ve been crushed by a tv show and waking up today to that sad and disappointing feeling wasn’t nice at all. Definitely feels like we’ve been made mugs of for the last 7 weeks. Even flemson aside, it was just a weak episode that didn’t quite hit the mark both plot wise and for each character in the show.
But of course regarding flemson, I’m still trying to understand the point of that amazing relationship build up between Jo and Kate for Kate to give not one ounce of recognition towards it in the final ep. All it needed was one line from Kate to either Jo, Steve or the therapist, proving it was real. A simple “we would have been amazing together but after everything that happened we just couldn’t go there” and then Jo living her new life with her dog and girlfriend would have been a much happier and satisfying ending. Instead we’re left with a bitter feeling that Kate just pretended to like her, got her notes then carried out a cold interview with no personal care at all. Of course I don’t for a second believe that Kate was pretending and she did care for Jo, 100%, but the fact that it’s all just subtext and reading between the lines of previous episodes to get at something that should have been a key and explicit moment in that final episode is why it’s so heartbreakingly disappointing and why I’m definitely still feeling pretty down about it all.
'boss... is everything ok?'
'let me prove it to you'

Kate and Jo + Matching Outfits [11/?]
Sir, we’re sending over the paperwork. DSU Buckells was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. We even found the missing Vella files in the boot of his service vehicle.
jed mercurio said he left a clue as to who H was, all the way back in season one.
buckells was playing golf with tommy hunter....... hiding in plain sight.
but still wtf.
“Me and my partner are separated. I’ve got a son, Josh. He keeps me going.”
Having to read between the lines ONCE AGAIN but the lack of specificity here is making me!! She could’ve easily said “My husband and I are no longer together,” “I’m currently going through a divorce.” But she doesn’t!! That line could be about anyone and the follow up mention of Josh means that you’ll automatically think she’s referring to Mark BUT and I’ve only just noticed this, she says “I’ve got a son, Josh...”
That line could’ve gone as “Me and my partner are separated. We’ve got a son, Josh. He keeps me going.”
I do think she is referring to Mark but maybe, just maybe, she’s referencing Jo as well. The fact she says ‘partner’ rather than ‘husband’ is very telltale, and then referring to Josh as her son rather than their son is,,,sus.
Am I just trying to clutch at straws and make the end not seem as bad as it is? Absolutely. But there are ways that scene could’ve been worded but it’s all so vague and unspecific so realistically, she could be talking about Jo as well as Mark. No they weren’t partners (perhaps partners in crime tho hahah) but given how they were set up and where they could’ve gone I do think it’s plausible to play up to that idea - plus, as mentioned before, Jed likes people to read between the lines, so the vagueness of Kate’s words are done on purpose, he wants us to know in an implicit way that Kate could be talking about Jo.
Could Kate have been more specific about Jo? Yes. And Jed shouldn’t have been afraid to do so. It’s okay Jed you can admit that Kate is bisexual!! You can let her talk about it and come to terms with it !! It’s fine!!
But will I take this moment as being just a *little* acknowledgement to the relationship between Kate and Jo? I suppose I will yes because I need some sort of answer to satisfy my brain.
Jo Davidson being happy <3 (kate’s version)
Kate & Steve // first & last scene.
friends, i present to you chris lomax being entirely done with kate and jo’s bullshit yearning for 45 seconds.

Line of Duty | 6x01
Kate and Steve in every episode of Line of Duty:
I’ve been thinking about this all day. And I’m starting to think Jed’s motivation for Flemson was to demonstrate that Kate can ultimately only trust Steve. “I’m not on my own. I’ve got you, mate.”; “Oh my god Steve’s in on it” etc etc...
It seems now like the function of the relationship between Jo and Kate was to demonstrate that only Steve will not let Kate down. That Kate placing trust in another colleague will ultimately lead to hurt and betrayal.
And I’m sorry that’s just not good enough.
If Jed wanted that, he could definitely have portrayed Flemson without any flirting, tension, side glances, ‘personal matters’, hand holding, mirrored outfits etc. He could have just portrayed two detectives being pals. Talking about shopping. Talking about their home lives. Bonding over Josh or something equally banal ffs.
Jo being gay could have been moot. Yes an aspect of her character, but not a factor in her friendship with Kate. To suggest that Jo was a lesbian and therefore BOUND to fall for Kate is so insulting to queer women.
In order to make the point that ‘Kate can ultimately only trust Steve’, Jed certainly did not need to waste everyone’s time making flemson’s relationship ambiguous enough to invite romantic interpretations.
No. Just not on.
THIS
Kate’s confession and how it could have happened;
She was about to leave. It was their last meeting — a formality, really — and the last time they’d see Jo before she went into Witness Protection. Kate had been up all night thinking about what to say; if she’d regret keeping quiet or if it were best not to say anything at all…
But Jo deserved the truth. And so did Kate.
in love with the Kate Fleming Death Stare™
tbh the way that Kate manipulated Jo’s obvious feelings for her then brushed it off like it never happened really rubs me up the wrong way, like girl kinda has issues with how she relates to women in particular and its v oof honestly
