summary: in which you finally go on your first date with Jaehyun, but it quickly becomes clear that heâs maybe not as skilled a skater as heâd made out
a/n: okay so this is technically a part two to coffee shop soundtrack but you 100% do not need to have read it to understand this one! this is lowkey messy, but the concept of a first date with shy!jaehyun was way too exciting and I wrote the entire thing in like half an hour?? god I love Jaehyun
In the days leading up to your date with Jaehyun, you found yourself experiencing a range of emotions; the most frequent being shock at yourself, for ever having the confidence to just blatantly ask someone out-- Long gone were the days of your teenage anxiety, it seemed.
The second most frequent was something akin to fear.
Fear of what, you werenât entirely sure. Possibly that Jaehyun wasnât going to be as sweet as you remembered; that maybe it would turn out he actually was a creep, and it had been a set up the whole time. It culminated in Seulgi sitting you down and telling you to snap out of it. After all, it was only one date⌠If it went badly, you never had to see him again.
The day of the date you were feeling surprisingly good about it all; after your shift at work you went straight home to get ready, changing into something that would be deemed more appropriate for a date than a pair of jeans and a shirt that you were fairly certain had had the smell of coffee ingrained into their very fibres.
Jaehyun picked you up at six, as promised, and the two of you endured a car ride to the roller-skating rink that was filled with constant, if a little awkward, small talk. He was a little fidgety, definitely not 100% focused on your conversation, but you put it down to nerves. It was standard first date stuff.
It wasnât until you arrived, changed into your skates and got onto the rink that you realised the real reason for his fidgeting.Â
âAre you sure youâre okay?â You asked, concern laced in your tone as you watched Jaehyun.
âMe? Oh-- Yeah, Iâm fine,â His knuckles were turning white from the sheer force of his grip on the side of the rink, âJust getting warmed up.â
â...You said that when I asked you five minutes ago,â The concern had been replaced with gentle teasing, a grin tugging at your lips, âHow long does it take you to warm up?â
It wasnât that you were an expert at roller-skating or anything, but⌠Well, you could do it. Which was more than could be said for Jaehyun, who could not have looked less at home in a pair of skates.
âDonât make fun of me, Iâve never skated before! Not everyone can be a pro,â You struggled to hold back your laughter as a girl no older than five skated past with obvious confidence, âOh come on!â
Having had enough of watching him suffer, you skated over to him and held your hands out. Instead of taking them, he eyed them up warily, and you rolled your eyes at him.
âCâmon, you baby, Iâd rather not spend the next hour watching you clutch to the wall,â You wiggled your fingers at him, âIâll help you balance.â
With only a little bit of reluctance, he transferred his grip onto your hands (something you almost instantly regretted), and slowly you coaxed him away from the wall and into the stream of skaters. It was difficult to ignore the slight panic in his eyes.
But as the two of you skated, taking it as slow as possible for Jaehyunâs sake, he slowly began to loosen up until he was actively making jokes and conversation with you. It was a far cry from how heâd been only ten minutes previously.
It was nice, you thought, skating along like that. Laughing and chatting, your hands still joined together; it was the kind of thing you could definitely get used to, and you would have had no problem holding his hand for the rest of your life, if that was what he wanted.
(You hoped it was.)
âIâm getting the hang of this now,â Jaehyun told you confidently, ignoring the eyebrow you raised at his words, âI think I might be better than you.â
You laughed, âYeah, youâre a real credit to my teaching skills.â
âNo, seriously,â He turned to shoot you a grin, âWatch this!â
If Jaehyun had told you before doing it, that he was about to pull his hand from your grip and attempt some sort of spin, you would have told him how stupid an idea it was. But he hadnât told you, and so instead you had to just watch as he went into the spin, and promptly tripped over his own feet, sending him sprawling to the floor.
âOh my god,â You breathed, coming to an immediate stop right by him, âAre you okay?â
He sat himself up, looking dazed. A couple other people who had also been skating stopped to check if he was alright, moving on as you let them know that you probably had it under control.
âI--,â He cut himself off, clutching his left arm to his chest, âI think I broke my arm?â
Seulgi was going to have a field day when you told her about this.
âSeriously?â You asked, as if you thought he was messing with you or something, âGod, I-- Should we go to the hospital?â
Jaehyun seemed to be weighing up the options he had, before hesitantly nodding. You sprung into action, helping him up to his feet and slinging his arm around your shoulders so the two of you could get to the edge and out of the rink.
Youâd thought a lot about all the different ways the date could have gone, before Jaehyun had picked you up. Surprisingly, none of your outcomes had involved you driving Jaehyun to the hospital so he could get a broken arm checked out.
Whilst he was getting x-rays you took the opportunity to head to a vending machine, having not had anything to eat or drink since about lunch time; you and Jaehyun had made plans to get food afterwards, before heâd fallen. Though, you thought with a wry smile, this probably hadnât been what he was thinking of.
Regardless, you took your bottle of water and snack, and went to sit by the entrance. You had no idea where Jaehyun was at the moment, and you werenât sure youâd be allowed to wait with him even if you did know.
So you sat, and you waited.
It was around an hour before Jaehyun made his appearance again, walking towards you with a sheepish expression and his arm in a sling. You got to your feet immediately, rushing over to him with worry etched clearly on your face.
âSo?â
He held his arm out as best as he could in response, âDoctor said itâs just a sprain. Iâve got to keep it elevated for at least 48 hours, but⌠other than that, Iâm fine.â
At his words you let out the breath that you didnât even know you were holding; as far as outcomes to this particular situation went, this was possibly the best you could have hoped for. At least this didnât have to go down as the date where you facilitated someone breaking their own arm.
âŚSilver linings, and all that.
âWhy, were you worried?â He asked, peering at you curiously. You werenât sure if you could hear a hint of teasing in his note, or not.
âWell-- Yeah? I mean, when you asked me out on a date, I wasnât aware this was how it was going to end,â You bumped your shoulder against his good one as the two of you exited the hospital, âDo you do this with all the girls?â
âOnly the special ones,â He confirmed, before seemingly dropping the teasing and sighing instead, âSome first date. Did I completely blow it?â
âOh, yeah, completely,â You nodded in mock seriousness, âIâd probably say this was the worst date Iâve ever been on.â
At his lack of response you turned to look at him, surprised to see the look of genuine hurt on his face. Rather belatedly you realised that maybe your joke had gone completely over his head.
âGod, no, Jaehyun, I was joking,â The look of relief was instant, giving you the reassurance you needed to carry on, âBelieve it or not, this is one of the better dates Iâve been on⌠Even with the trip to the hospital.â
â...Seriously?â He paused for a moment, before his lips quirked upwards into a grin, âSo⌠You wouldnât say no to a second date?â
âIâll tell you what; we can go on a second date, as long as you promise that we can steer clear of the hospital, and that thereâll be no more sprained limbs. Sound good?â
Even if he hadnât said as much immediately after, an excited âSounds great!â spilling out of his mouth, the speed at which he nodded his head left no room to doubt how eager he was.
It was cute, you thought, the way he wore his heart on his sleeve; let you know exactly what was on his mind, no pretences. He wasnât like most of the guys youâd dated, ones that had always seemed to hold things back, giving off mixed signal after mixed signal until youâd no longer known where you stood.
Jaehyun was an open book, and as he snaked his good arm around your waist, slowly, as if giving you time to tell him to stop, you realised that maybe he was what youâd been waiting for all along. Clumsiness and all.Â
You just hoped youâd be able to steer him away from anymore date ideas that could potentially end with one of you (more likely him) in a full body cast.
hi could you write 17 from the fluff list with johnny please x
âIâm home!â You call as you step through the door of your shoebox apartment, kicking the door closed behind you and leaving your bag on the table in the hall.
It had taken a while for you and Johnny to raise enough money to move out of your individual dorms on campus, and when you had youâd only been able to afford a one bedroomed place that needed a lot of work in a run-down part of the city.
But, it had been almost six months since youâd signed the paperwork and moved in, and the place was finally beginning to feel like home. Even though it consisted of four rooms in total, and barely had enough space to store all your belongings, you fell in love with it more and more with every day that passed.
No response came from Johnny, and you took a moment to check your watch. 9.54pm. He should have been home by now. It took only a few seconds to check the kitchen and living room, both empty, âJohnny?â
Still no response.
That had to mean that either heâd decided to stay over at Tenâs for the night (unlikely), or he was holed up in your bedroom working on some music. The latter was far more likely, you knew, and so you make your way over to the bedroom door and push inside, smiling tiredly at the sight of Johnny hunched over the desk heâd set up with all his equipment, back to you and headphones firmly in place.
He jolts the moment your fingers make contact with the back of his neck, stroking gently at the short hairs there. As he realises itâs just you, he slips his headphones off, spinning in his chair to face you.
âYouâre back,â He comments, glancing at his phone, âItâs late.â
Johnny reaches for you, wrapping his hands around your wrists and pulling you until youâre seated on his lap, desk chair swaying slightly under the added weight.
âI was out with the girls,â You explain, tilting your head back for it to rest comfortably in the crook of his neck, letting out a content sigh, âYou know how Seulgi gets.â
Johnny laughs, the noise coming out soft in the late hours of the night; itâs times like these ones that you treasure, when itâs just the two of you, and thereâs no one being loud. You love your friends, love how silly Johnny can be, but you also love the moments that he isnât. They all make up the guy that you love, after all.
âIâm really lucky to have you,â You tell him without even thinking, words coming out mumbled against his skin.
It must take a moment for your words to sink in, silence blanketing the two of you until he suddenly laughs, craning his neck back to level you with a gaze thatâs full of nothing but fondness, an amused smile playing on his lips.
âWhere did that come from?â
You shrug, not really certain yourself, âI donât know, I justâ Iâm really grateful for you, I guess.â
His arms tighten around your waist, his head tilting to the side so his lips can make contact with your forehead briefly.
âIâm glad, because Iâm really grateful for you too,â He admits, voice low, âMore grateful than Iâve ever been for anything else in my life.â
You flush at his admission, unable to help it even after so many years together, and instead try and focus on watching as he loosely links your fingers together. The way he squeezes your hand is a reassurance and a promise all at once, a sign of things to come, and it leaves you feeling warm.
There were a lot of things in your life that youâd change, that youâd maybe do differently, but Johnny Seo wasnât one of them; he was one of the few things youâd done right.
so, we have two posts queued up for tonight (shocking I know!!)
we were just wondering if you guys have any ideas youâd like to see written, or maybe more of a certain member (there is a disturbing lack of kun content and I hope youâre all as upset about it as I am)

can I ask for 2 off of the angst list w Taeyong pls!! i've been feeling so angsty lately tear my heart apart pls :)))
âI think I might be better off without you.â
You blink once, twice, not entirely certain youâd heard him correctly. You couldnât have. Things had been great between you and Taeyong, there was no way he could have possibly said something like that⌠Right?
The deafening silence told you otherwise.
You looked at him, hoping maybe heâd crack a smile and tell you he was just joking around, or maybe even explain himself further.
He refused to meet your gaze, instead staring intensely at his plate, poking at his half eaten dinner.
You felt so caught off guard, and stupid.Â
Taeyong had gotten a day off and it was such a rare occurrence youâd spent nearly a week planning a special dinner for him. For the entire day leading up to that night, youâd been cooking and cleaning your apartment, ensuring perfection for the romantic evening youâd planned. You regretted nothing more in that moment; the humiliation was overwhelming. You felt like tossing the roses in the bin; Maybe throwing all traces of him which littered your home in too and topping it off with the candles that illuminated the kitchen.Â
The silence was becoming smothering, you felt unable to speak. You found yourself opening and closing your mouth uselessly, struggling to find your voice.
âI donâtâWhy?â you managed to choke out, on the verge of tears.
He didnât reply straightaway, electing instead to keep his gaze directed at the plate in front of him.
âIs there someone else?â
Panic was seeping into your tone.
With a heavy sigh, he finally met your gaze.
âWould that make it easier for you?â
Your heart dropped into your stomach. It was somehow much worse than the answer you were expecting.
Taeyong was leaving you, and not because heâd fallen for someone else; no, simply because heâd fallen out of love with you.
You wondered how long heâd been thinking about it. Had he been planning your breakup while you were planning a future with him? It was becoming too much for you. There were so many questions you wanted to ask him, but you were unsure if you could handle another answer. Another stretch of silence passed while you attempted to work out what to do next.
You took a long sip of wine, both in an attempt to build up the courage to speak again, but also to numb all the feelings that were slowly suffocating you.
âI think you should leave.â
At your words, he stood upâ almost too quickly for your liking. You wished he hadnât been so obviously eager to leave.
In just a few short steps he was at the door, hand hovering above the doorknob. He looked as if he was hesitating; you were desperately hoping he had changed his mind, that heâd turn around and tell you he wasnât leaving, that it had just been a mistake.
Instead he turned to look at you one last time, driving the knife a little deeper into your chest as you took in the guilt written across his face.
You nearly felt bad for him, but the pained look on his face was nothing compared to the pain you felt.
It almost made you angry, he felt only guilt while you were experiencing heartbreak.
âIâll come get my things next weekâ he said softly, perhaps afraid heâd finally cause you to shed the tears that had been threatening to spill.
You didnât answer him.
âI am sorry, Y/N⌠That things ended like this? I never wanted to hurt you.â
He was met with silence for the second time.
With a sigh, he looked around the apartment, giving you time to answer him. He was only prolonging the inevitable though, you both knew that.
You couldnât bring yourself to watch him leave as he finally pulled the door open, disappearing through it without another word, opting to stare at your hands instead.
It was only when youâd heard the door close, his footsteps getting quieter and quieter until the apartment was thrown into a silence that left your mind reeling from everything that had just happened, that you could finally look up at the door that Taeyong had walked out of; and finally, the tears fell.Â

11 - âDonât cry. Everythingâs going to be okay.â

19 - âPlease donât leave.â

10 - âI like it when you say my name like that.â
11 - âI heard shower sex is dangerous, but right now, Iâm willing to take the risk.â
12 - âI really donât care. You still look hot and Iâm trying not to kiss you senseless right now.â
13 - âYouâre so much fun to touch.â
14 - âCan I at least take my shoes off before you pounce on me?â
15 - âAre you sure? Once we start, I might not be able to stop.â
16 - âNo, Iâm supposed to be making you feel good.â
17 - âOh my God, do that again.â
18 - âYou can be wearing a trashbag, and Iâd still want you.â
19 - âI thought maybe we can do a little more than just kissing.â

summary: in which thereâs a âmarriage proposalâ, but youâre just not so sure youâre ready
The thing about Johnny, was that it wasnât often he stopped talking; whether it be to fill an awkward silence, to create small talk to pass the time, or simply because he just wanted to say something, he never seemed to stop. Of course, there were moments of peacefulness with him around, such as when he was working on something to do with his music, or concentrating hard on whatever video game he was into at that moment.Â
They just didnât come around as often as you would like.
So when the two of you were sat at home one night, and he paused briefly in the middle of whatever it was heâd been talking about before to throw out a quick âI think we should get marriedâ, well, honestly? It just didnât register, simply tuned out with the rest of whatever heâd been saying previously, so you could concentrate on the book youâd been trying to finish reading for the past week.
Your complete lack of a response save for a non-committal hum left him dumbfounded. Had you not heard him?
He tried again, the second time warranting more of a response from you, but still nothing more than a âThatâs nice, Johnny.â
The silence that followed, well, that grabbed your attention. Had he finally cottoned on that that was your default I donât really care what youâre talking about right now, but carry on response? The pout that had settled on his lips suggested he had.
Realising you werenât going to finish your book any time soon, you put it down on the coffee table with a sigh, before shifting on the sofa to get more comfortable; toes prodding at Johnnyâs pyjama clad legs until he relented and moved his arms to allow you to rest your feet on his lap.
âSorry, youâve got my full attention,â You promised, shooting your still pouting boyfriend a smile that you hoped would placate him, âWhat were you saying?â
âI was trying to say,â Johnny started, bottom lip jutting out fully ever so briefly, âThat I think we should get married.â
It took a few, very long, moments for the words to register properly. When they did, you still werenât entirely certain on what to say.
âMarried?â You repeated, eyebrows raised almost into your hairline. Of all the things youâd been expecting him to say, that had been bottom of the list, âAs in⌠a wedding? Me and you?â
The two of you stared at each other for what felt like forever, before something seemed to dawn on Johnny, an expression that seemed to be discomfort mixed with embarrassment clear on his face.
ââŚYou donât want to, do you?â He asked, suddenly unable to look at you, âGod, Iâm an idiot. I shouldnât have asked, can we forget I said anything?â
âNo! JohnnyâIââ You scrambled up onto your knees as Johnny made as if to get up from the sofa, attempting to keep him in place with a hand on his shoulder.
You knew that if he really wanted to he could have gotten up anyway, knocked your hand from itâs place and left; instead he let himself be pushed down, waiting to hear what you had to say.
But that was the thing; you didnât know what to say. It was like your brain had short-circuited, his gaze on you making things ten times worse.
âIâYou know that I love you, right? AndâYouâre probably the best thing that happened to me, and I would love nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you,â You took in a deep breath, flinching slightly at the range of emotions that seemed to cross his face, âBut⌠Iâm not ready for marriage.â
The silence in the room was suffocating, and you were about two seconds from just getting up and fleeing the scene, hoping that maybe youâd both just forget it ever happened, when he cleared his throat.
ââŚYouâre not ready as in⌠you wonât ever be ready?â
Johnny sounded more uncertain than youâd ever heard him sound in his life, and you frowned as you took in the vulnerable look on his face. Youâd known from the moment you started dating him that family was a big deal to him; that marriage was a big deal to him. But you hadnât really fully understood just how big a deal it was until that moment. Â
âNo, stupid,â You teased gently, the hand that had been resting on his shoulder now rubbing at it soothingly; Johnny leaning into the touch without even realising, âIâm just not ready now. We moved in together less than six months ago⌠I just want to be sure that nothingâs going to go horribly wrong before committing to marriage; I mean, what if you decide suddenly that you canât handle having all my skin products in the bathroom? Or that you really canât deal with all the scented candles I keep buying?â
It was a poor attempt at lightening the mood, but Johnny laughed anyway, a bright grin suddenly appearing on his face that prompted one of your own.
âImpossible,â He replied, only half joking, before he suddenly shifted; pulling you until you were sat fully on his lap, his arms wrapped tightly around you to secure you in place, âI love everything about you.â
âStop being so cheesy, itâs gross,â You whined, pinching him in the side.
Despite the complaints, both of you knew that you secretly liked hearing him say things like that; it was part of what had made you fall so in love with him in the first place, never having to second guess just how he felt about you. Heâd always worn his heart on his sleeve, and you loved him for it.
It shone through a lot in the day to day of your relationship, but youâd never felt it as strongly as you did right then, Johnny leaning to gently knock your foreheads together, his nose nuzzling against your own with a sweet smile playing on his lips.
âWhen you are ready, Iâll be there,â He promised, âWith the best proposal youâve ever seen.â
âOh?â Your interest piqued, you leant back slightly to look at him properly; though his arms still wrapped tightly around you didnât let you get far, âHow are you going to do it?â
âI canât ruin the whole surprise,â He chided you teasingly, âButâThereâd probably be flowers, and fancy wineâAnd of course Iâd write a song.â
âA song?â The grin on your lips widened, âWhat about?â
âAbout you,â He replied easily, âAnd me; us. Mostly how great a boyfriend I am, and how youâre so lucky to have me, of course.â
âOh, of course,â You shot back, nodding in mock-seriousness.
âIâd get Taeil to back me up on his guitar,â Johnny pursed his lips, looking as if he were playing the scenario out in his head, âMaybe get Jaehyun to help with the vocals.â
ââŚ.And itâs ruined.â âOkay okay, no Taeil, or Jaehyunâ He relented, before looking at you hopefully, ââŚCan I bring Donghyuck in to sing the chorus, instead?â
The elder of the two princes in the Royal Family, soon to be crowned King. Quick witted yet arrogant, Doyoungâs upbringing and general attitude towards those below him in status has resulted in him not been well received by the lower classes of the population
From a long line of apothecaries, Taeil is solely in charge of the health and well-being of everyone in the small village of Merriwyn. When heâs not busy making medicines, he can often be found teaching the kids of the village how to read and write.Â
Thereâs not a person in Erivale who doesnât know of Johnny. A well liked bar keep in the local tavern who often keeps the patrons entertained with stories, jokes or his pet parrot; However more often than not Johnny can be found in the stocks after taking yet another joke about one of the nobles too far

summary: in which this one customer comes in everyday to drink coffee and stare at you, but you think heâs kind of cute despite the creepy circumstances
âI donât want to alarm you or anything,â Seulgi said, sidling over to you as you handed a customer his change before sending him on his way with a smile, âBut some guy came in about five minutes ago, and he hasnât stopped staring at you since.â
Your brows furrowed at her words, turning to look at your co-worker in confusion, âSeriously?â
There was always a lull in the flow of customers at this time, the golden time period in between people dropping by who were on their lunchbreaks, and the high school kids being let out from school; it wasnât often that people stayed long enough to warrant taking a seat in said period, and you were certain youâd have noticed someone walking in and doing so.
âSeriously,â She replied, sending a pointed glance in the direction of the back wall, âA friend of yours, or something?â
Sure enough, a guy was sat at the back of the coffee shop, hunched over a drink that you couldnât remember getting for him, staring resolutely at the cup in front of him with his cheeks painted a flushed red. Had he heard you talking?
âNo, I donât recognise him,â You told her, eyeing him up curiously, âAre you sure he was even looking at me? He could have been reading the drinks menu.â
Seulgi scoffed, âTrust me, that boy was checking you out. Iâm surprised you didnât notice, I thought he was going to burn a hole in the back of your head.â
That, youâre fairly certain he did hear; or maybe it had suddenly dawned on him that he had in fact been caught out. Either way he got to his feet quickly, chair legs scraping across the wooden floor as he shoved it backwards, exiting the coffee shop as fast as humanly possible and leaving behind a half drunken cup of coffee. You exchanged a glance with Seulgi, who simply shrugged.
âCreepy,â She commented, already moving out from behind the counter to go and retrieve the cup that had been abandoned, âWeâre lucky he didnât come over and ask for a lock of your hair, or something.â
You shook your head at her words, rolling your eyes and choosing to ignore her in favour of turning to greet the customer who had just walked in, a tall professional looking woman who barked out her order the second she reached the counter.
âIâm serious,â Seulgi murmured, as you set about making the womanâs request, handing you a bottle of syrup to pour into the to-go cup, âIf he comes in to do that again, Iâm calling the cops.â
That comment you didnât even acknowledge with a response, simply pursing your lips and turning to hand the finished drink to the woman who flung her money down on the counter before heading out without a word of thanks, too busy talking animatedly to whoever was on the other end of her phone.
Besides, you thought, it wasnât like it was likely youâd ever see the guy again.
                                                        â彥
As it turned out, you did see him again. Several times in fact.
The first time he came back Seulgi wasnât on shift, which probably saved him from an uncomfortable run-in with the cops. Youâd found out the hard way that when Seulgi said she was going to do something, she made sure she followed through with the threat. The last thing you wanted was someone getting arrested whilst you were working. It just wouldnât be good for business.
When he walked in you were teaching the new girl the ropes, too busy showing her how to use the espresso machine to notice him approaching the counter and ordering a drink from one of your other colleagues, before taking the same seat he had previously.
Like the last time, it wasnât long before someone else noticed and said something to you, this time being the new girl, Yeri. And like the last time, it wasnât long after that before he left abruptly, only this time having finished his drink first.
It carried on for a couple of weeks, meaning you had to talk Seulgi out of calling someone multiple times, only managing to when you promised her that if the situation started to get out of hand, youâd tell someone, preferably the police.
Really, you just wanted to see how it would play out, and over the course of those next weeks you found yourself watching him more and more in response.
Despite his behaviour, he didnât look to be much of a creep. He was tall-ish, with limbs that he didnât seem to have much control over, and a full head of messy brown hair; it was a style that you didnât usually like on guys, but worked a little too well for him. And yeah, he was also kind of cute. Scratch that, very cute. If you ignored the whole âwatching people from afarâ thing heâd had going on for the past month.
âI think you should put him out of his misery,â Seulgi said as she walked into the backroom, where youâd spent the last five minutes unpacking boxes of Styrofoam cups, âGo and talk to him, or something.â
âHeâs here again?â You asked, only half paying attention as you attempted to stack the pile as high as possible without it falling over.  Your personal record was twenty three cups high.
Seulgi snorted, âOf course he is, itâs three fifteen.â
âYou think he has it scheduled in a planner, or something?â
âJoke about it all you want, but it wouldnât surprise me,â Seulgi sighed, âIt really is a shame heâs a creep, what a waste of a cute face.â
âWe donât know heâs a creep,â You countered, âMaybe heâs just shy.â
âAll the more reason to go talk to him!â
Some part of you thought that maybe Seulgi had some kind of ulterior motive here, why else would she be so insistent you go talk to this guy that had essentially been stalking you at work over the past few weeks? But another, larger, part of you was curious. Why had this guy been coming in every day without fail? That part of you ultimately won out, and you found yourself back out at the front of the coffee shop, and heading over to his table before you could talk yourself out of it; Seulgi watching from behind the counter with a grin on her face.
You were so glad your manager was on her lunch break.
For once, he wasnât watching you as you approached, seemingly engrossed in something on his phone, but you dropping into the seat opposite him had him jolting back into reality, his eyes wide as he stared at you.
âHi,â You breathed, a smile on your face that you hoped didnât show your nerves, âIâm Y/N.â
The guy stared at you, mouth opening and closing like a confused goldfish, before he finally seemed to find his tongue, ââŚ.Jaehyun.â
 âJaehyun?â
 âMyâThatâsâThatâs my name. Jaehyun.â
âOh,â You nodded your head, pursing your lips as you mulled over your next words, âSo, Jaehyun. Youâre in here a lot, do you work in the area?â
Jaehyun watched you carefully, as if trying to work out what exactly was going on, before he finally opened his mouth to reply, âNo, I justâI like the coffee here, you guys⌠You do a good job?â
On the table, his phone buzzed, signalling an incoming text, but he ignored it in favour of picking his coffee up and taking a sip, as if to prove his point. You raised an eyebrow.
 âYou sure thatâs it?â
The two of you stared at each other, Jaehyun looking more and more uncomfortable before his face flushed a deep red, hands coming up to cover it as he let out a groan.
 âYou noticed?â
He sounded pained, obviously more than a little embarrassed at being caught out, and you couldnât help but to feel a little endeared by it.
âIt was hard not to,â You admitted, letting out a little laugh, âYouâre not exactly subtle.â
âGod, IâIâm sorry, I didnât mean to make you uncomfortable or anything, I justâYouâre so pretty and my friend Johnny said that girls liked it when you paid attention to them, so I thoughtââ
âI think your friend was trying to mess with you,â You told him, trying to hide the grin that was threatening to tug at your lips, âThe only kind of attention youâre going to get from doing that is police attention. Seriously, I had to talk my friend out of calling the cops more than once.â
The noise that left Jaehyunâs mouth was one of pure humiliation, and suddenly you felt bad for him; the guy was clearly harmless, just following some bad advice from a friend that was clearly out to screw with him. And besides, he was cute.
âYou know,â You started, speaking slowly, âIf you wanted to, you could stare at me some other place. Like, a restaurant or something. Wait. That came out wrongââ
âLike a date?â Jaehyun cut across, clearly eager and no longer looking like he wanted the ground to swallow him up whole.
âWell, if youâre paying,â You teased, feeling knocked for six by the blinding smile he sent your way. It suited him much better than the look of embarrassment heâd been sporting before.
 ââŚSo⌠Johnnyâs advice worked, then?â
âNo. Not at all. Literally never try that again,â You rushed to correct him, before noticing the look of amusement on his face, âOh, very funny.â
Jaehyun laughed, just as his phone vibrated again. This time, he glanced down, checking the message and frowning slightly as he replied, before sliding the phone back into his pocket.
âI have to go, I forgot I promised to meet up with a friend,â He rose to his feet quickly, but faltered when standing, clearly reluctant to leave, âSo⌠Are you free Friday? At six?â
You pretended to think it over, before leaning back in your seat, âI suppose I can be, for the right plans. What do you have in mind?â
âHow about dinner and a movie?â He suggested, before noticing the look on your face, âOr⌠That new roller-skating rink just opened up? We could go there?â
 âItâs a date.â
âA date,â He repeated, smile on his lips, clearly about to say something else before his phone buzzed again, shocking him into action, âI really have to go nowâIâll pick you up at six!â
âWait!â You called after him, stopping him in his tracks, âYou donât even have my number?â
Quickly you scrawled the digits that youâd memorised onto a napkin, pressing it into his hand and pushing him gently towards the door, watching as he shot you a grateful smileâAnd promptly tripped over a chair someone had forgotten to push in.
You struggled to hide your laughter behind your hand as he righted himself, face once more a bright red, and left the coffee shop before he could embarrass himself any more; the bell above the door tinkling softly and the empty coffee cup on his table the only signs heâd ever even been inside.
Sure, his methods of getting you to notice him had been a little⌠out there, but his intentions seemed to be pure, and you had a good feeling about him.
