“Oh my god, they’ve gotten so big!”
“I think I might have bought too many.”
bethanyinseabrook:
“Oh, stop, you look amazing.”
“You look beautiful. You have the happy bride glow. I’m so happy for you two.”
seabrooksfinest:
“Hattie and I will keep that baby fever at bay for you. A kid really needs a good aunt, anyway.”
“That’s why Hattie had twins, right? So that I wouldn’t have to have one for a while? That’s me, the crazy aunt that comes up every few weeks and brings a bunch of presents to spoil him every time.”
bethanyinseabrook:
seabrooksfinest:
“Um.” The laugh that followed was breathy, “Well.”
“I told them – that I’m pregnant.”
Time seemed to freeze as the words descended on their ears.
“Why would you tell them that, Jana?” Hattie asked slowly.
“Pregnant?”
seabrooksfinest:
“And I’ve become quite the french fry dipper, if ya don’t mind–”
“Sure, but you have to pay the fry tax. Did you bring your own french fries?”
seabrooksfinest:
“You’ll get a brain freeze.”
“I’ll have you know, I have become a professional ice cream eater and milkshake drinker the past couple of years.”
bethanyinseabrook:
“With this ring, I thee make you match my other bridesmaids.”
“Now if only we matched in the chest.”
“Hey.”

“Our lawyer cares more for protecting the company than us. Go ahead and call someone from school, I guess.” Jana was hesitant giving the okay to bring more people on board the lie that’s dragged on year after year. Who would drown from it this time?
“They’re not going to stop talking to me anytime soon. I can attest to, um, his character.” She stared at her feet, unable to meet either set of eyes. “He’s been different. Hostile.”
“Hostile?” Hattie practically mouthed to herself. She could see Axel’s face in her mind, stone cold and murderous at the thought of Lake, especially now. Maybe it was so easy to envision because Alex was wearing the same impression.
“What have you said to them so far, Jana?”
“Okay. I’ll think of someone we can trust.” The lawyer in her wanted to scream at the idea of Jana talking to the police without anyone else in the room with her, but the friend side won out. “Why didn’t you tell us he’d changed?”
seabrooksfinest:
bethanyinseabrook:
“I’d better get— What is a push present?”
“You know what a treat is to a dog? Like incentive to roll over. Or in this case, incentive to push.”
“It’s supposed to be a present that the father of your children gives you as a ‘thank you for carrying my offspring around for nine months, I know it was hard so I got you something shiny.’”

Looking back and forth between her two best friends, Hattie burst into tears—not because she was overwhelmed, or because she was in a panic, but because they were right. For once in her life, Hattie felt capable, and though the thought of motherhood was daunting, when wouldn’t it be? She was with the love of her life, surrounded by people she loved, and on her way to a fulfilling career. Her life was peaking. If she wasn’t qualified to teach smaller humans how to have just as good an experience as she was having now, when would she be?
“I love you guys.” Hattie wrapped an arm around both Jana and Alex and pulled them into a pile on the couch. “Where would I be without you? Where would my baby be without you?” she sniffed. “Thank you.”
“Your baby would be – ” She withheld any cum stain on pillowcase jokes until further notice, returning the hug. “We love you and that peanut, mommy.”
“You’re going to be so great at it.”
“And we are going to be pretty great at spoiling the hell out of your peanut, of course.”
seabrooksfinest:
“I still stand by the fact that whoever invented pregnancies in the summer is a bitch, but this was all worth it. I’m glad I could score a Liam and an Alex all in one day.”
“Everything about being pregnant sounds mildly horrifying, to be totally honest. Even if they do have a pretty cute result. Well, I’m glad I got a Jana and a Liam in one day. The cutest Liam I ever saw.”
seabrooksfinest:
bethanyinseabrook:
“Ahhhhhhhh.” Hattie gripped the mattress with one hand and ripped at the hair still attached to her scalp with the other.
“Where is that son of a monkey’s uncle anyway?”
“Well, I don’t hear the yelling yet, so I doubt he and Danica are back.”
“Probably getting you a last minute push present. Do you get two if it’s twins?”
bethanyinseabrook:
seabrooksfinest:
“I can’t tell our lawyer the things I can tell you, Alex.”
“He – It was staged. Lake knew where he was taking us, what he was doing. Kingston’s car was tampered with. They know that now. He didn’t confess, but he put us there. You’re the only one I trust to – to tell us what to do.”
“So he told them about us,” Hattie practically whistled, her voice too high and her words out of tune.
“Of course he fucking did.”
Alex felt like she should have known that this would come back to haunt them someday. For all of their worries, it had cleared up almost too easily for the three of them. She wanted to find Lake and demand an explanation, one that might actually make any of this make sense. Except that wouldn’t help her protect the friends that she could actually trust.
“Okay. Here’s what we need to do. We need to figure out our story of what happened that night before we do anything else. And we’re going to need to find someone else that’s passed the bar at least. I know people from school or we can find some stranger, whatever. But we don’t know how much he’s told them or what he’s told them, and we need someone who’s not freaking out because their so called best friend actually end up being a fucking psychopath.”
seabrooksfinest:
bethanyinseabrook:
“Yes. About four different times. And you know what? Every single time so far, they’ve been wrong, so—”
Jana exchanged a look with Alex, biting her tongue so that the next words out of her mouth weren’t I don’t know what to fucking do.
“How about we play a game called you take a deep breath and chill for, like, a second? They’re taking their time because they love their little home too much right now.”
Alex thought she deserved an award for the strength of will that it took not to laugh at Jana’s statement. Instead, she opened her purse, digging around for a moment. “You’re supposed to do as much as you can to relax at this point. Here, I brought you your favorite and a deck of cards. I thought about bringing Cards against Humanity, but I remembered the last time we played that with Axel, and thought this was safer.”
seabrooksfinest:
“I think maybe he’s amazed by how pretty you are. I’ve missed that face.”
“That or he knows which aunt is going to probably buy him too many things when she sees him. Can I just say thank you for having him before I had to go back to school? Or maybe I should be thanking you, huh? I know your mommy is very happy to see you.”
