Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces have changed quite a bit over the decades and are one of the most popular treatments among patients. Dr. Halabi bonds small brackets to the front of every tooth using an adhesive. An archwire runs across the teeth through the brackets, which can be a variety of colors to customize to your own taste. You cannot remove braces, which means there are dietary restrictions you must follow to prevent damage to your hardware and teeth. They are also more difficult to clean and you must schedule follow-up appointments so Dr. Halabi can tighten the wire to maintain pressure on your teeth as they shift.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces feature larger brackets but can come in clear or natural tooth color for a less visible appearance. The archwire can also be clear or tooth color. However, ceramic braces do carry some risks. The hardware is more susceptible to damage because the material is different.

While metal braces are made with stainless steel or titanium alloys, ceramic braces are made of polycrystalline alumina, which is not as strong. Furthermore, the brackets cover a larger area of each tooth and increase the risk of enamel wear. If your appearance during treatment is more important to you, ceramic braces are a good choice.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces work the same way as other braces, only these are bonded to the back of your teeth instead of the front. That means others won’t see your braces. But there are drawbacks. Lingual braces can be more uncomfortable and they are the most expensive type of braces because of the installation difficulty. Be sure to weigh your options carefully before deciding that lingual braces are best for you.

Damon Braces

Damon braces are self-ligating braces, which is a revolutionary innovation in bracket technology. Each bracket features a special door that clips the wire into place, making it easier for Dr. Halabi to tighten. This reduces your time in the dental chair.
