Protogenoi 9: Zeus Offspring Olympians
In addition to the previous deities, Zeus’ offspring become the remaining Olympians. Here we will explore their fascinating birth tales. In the following pages we will look at each of the Olympians in detail.
Zeus and Metis, the titan of wisdom. Fearing a prophecy of his son overthrowing him (just like he overthrew his father, Cronus) he swallows his 1st wife. But the child, Athena, goddess of wisdom and military strategy, erupts from Zeus head fully armed in war glory.
Zeus and Leto, goddess of child birth and motherhood. Fearing Zeus wife Hera, Leto escapes to the floating island of Delos to give birth to the twin gods Apollo and Artemis.
Zeus and Hera, give birth the Ares; god of war, as well as Hebe, goddess of Youth, cupbearer to the gods, and later wife to Heracles, and Eileithyia, goddess of childbirth.
Hera, jealous at Zeus’ sole conception of Athena from his head, conceives her own child, the lame-legged Hephaistos. Dissapointed with his disability, she casts him out off Olympus and he falls to the island of Lemnos, and becomes an ingenious craftsman under the parentage of sea nymphs Thetis and eurynome.
Zeus and Semele: Hera, in her jealousy persuades pregnant mortal Semele to convince Zeus to reveal his true form to her. But when he does, it incinerates her, and Zeus takes the unborn Dionysus into his thigh for the remainder of the pregnancy.
Zeus and Maia, who is one of the seven sister Pleaides who were associated with springtime and the constellations. Maia gave birth to Hermes in a cave on Mount Cyllene in Arcadia.
aw shit
Dump & Go meals are probably going to be some of the easiest meals for people who struggle with depression, anxiety, or other types of disabilities.
If you're preparing for surgery, giving birth, or just feel exhausted all the time please look into them.
There's a few different types of dump and go meals.
Instant pot : VERY fast and efficient, you typically throw shit in there with MINIMAL work and press a few buttons and wait.
Crock pot: SLOW. Very slow. Your food will take hours to be ready so if you're going to be at home all day, throw it in there in the morning and it'll be done for dinner. For breakfast and lunch you can have easy meals like premade lunchables or sandwiches.
Pan: You throw everything on a big sheet pan and into the oven! Less dishes, simple and easy to do.
Stove: This one requires the most ACTIVE cooking. You'll need to stir/add/etc occasionally to check on it. Unlike the others where you practically add a couple things and walk away.
This also promotes eating at home and EATING in general. I'm no stranger to forgetting to eat for an entire day and then not eating only because I didn't have enough spoons to cook.
"Okay but how do I find them?" Go online, whether tiktok, youtube, or google and look up instant pot recipes, crock pot recipes, dump & go recipes, and freezer meal recipes.
MAKE SURE you thaw these out in the fridge! Every night before bed just pull one out and put it in the fridge :)
Edit: I will also make note! You can often find freezer meals that work WONDERFULLY ! An example is pre seasoning + cutting some chicken, potatoes, and broccoli. Label it CLEARLY with directions !
That means you can freeze a batch of 15+ dinners/lunches AT ONCE and then not have to panic about cooking. If you’re a rice lover like myself you can buy a small rice cooker and turn it on while the other pot goes and that’s IT that’s all it takes for healthy yummy dinner
This dark gray woolen suit is from the middle third of the 1700s, created between 1755 and 1765. Made in England it is a fine example of the sort of suit of clothes a reasonably successful merchant might own, or perhaps a well to do farmer. The cuffs and the coat interior are lined with plain woven tan silk material, which would have allowed the suit coat to glide over the shirt without pulling.
The suit’s construction is good, but not remarkable, implying that the tailor was not top of the line, but someone used to working at the middle range of things.

Fellow master's/grad/phd students and academics with ADHD, executive dysfunction, overall procrastination problems, etc. do you have any tips for setting a consistent work schedule and stopping your brain from thinking you can write a 200-300 page thesis the night before?
I struggle with deadlines when I know there are no immediate consequences and even when my thesis advisor sets strict deadlines for me I struggle with keeping up (because I know there is no immediate problem if I don't do the assignment he gave me). I want to break the habit of writing whole essays in one night, but nothing has worked so far. I'm up to trying anything, maybe I'll even document each tip on my blog for others who struggle like me.
Pharmacists Hate Her!
Stop fighting your brain! Work with your ADHD instead of against it and try these weird tricks to struggle less!
(This is a non-exhaustive list of strategies I’ve found useful in coping with my ADHD. Not every technique will work for every person, so the more listed, the merrier! Suggest your own tips and I’ll add them to the list.)
Counting down. If you’re begging yourself to do something that you just can’t get started on, tell yourself you’ll do the thing in 3… 2… 1… go! Giving yourself an artificial starting point in the near future is like a jump start for your brain. I use this when I need to stop scrolling.
Productive procrastination. If you have multiple things you need to get done, trick yourself by procrastinating on one thing by doing the other. Just make sure to do the more important thing first! I use this when I need to work on class work for different subjects.
Linked reminders. If you have something you think you’ll forget, remember it by mentally associating with something you’re guaranteed to do later. ADHD minds just love lumping tasks together, so take advantage of that! I use this by connecting taking my meds to showering.
Motivational boredom. If you have something you don’t want to do, then go do absolutely nothing - and I mean really nothing; no phone, no music, no moving, no daydreaming, truly nothing - until you’re bored enough to want to do it. I use this when I need to work on a project.
Body doubling. If you keep getting distracted during a task, work in the same space (physical or virtual) with another person. I use this when I need to study.

Brassiere / 'band' 1920s The Kyoto Costume Institute, maker unknown. Pink silk georgette with lace insertion; flower ornament.
"The brassiere of soft thin materials and flat shape. It was known as a band, because it was used to make breasts flat, instead of pushing them up. It is associated with the fashion of eliminating feminine body curves among the dynamic new women known as "Garçonnes" (a feminization of the French word for "boys").
Fashion in the 20th century moved to a new direction. Corsets, which had tightly constrained women's bodies and at the same time supported their bosoms, emphasizing the feminine curves of breasts, were discarded after World War I. That is why new underwear, the brassiere, was needed. The first brassiere introduced in Japan was of this type, and was called a "Chichi-band."

Nothing brings me more joy than people learning from history and then modernizing it up a bit.
Like you wanna grow your hair long? Stop washing it so often and brush it more to keep it clean. Your hair will be way healthier too. And stop cutting it (and use a boar bristle brush, it’ll work better as it’ll actually absorb the oils, distribute them better, and work a hell of a lot better than non-absorbent plastic would) Edit: Early on, some well meaning person kindly asked me to inform you that the boar bristle brush technique does not work on curly hair, however I have since been informed by multiple parties that it does! My hair is as straight as a pin so use your own judgment!
You want to keep cool in the summer? Out with the polyester and in with the linen and cotton. Natural fibers are going to keep you cooler because they’re literally made to breathe
You want to preemptively stop the underwire in your bra from poking through? There’s a very simple embroidery stitch you can do that the Edwardians used to do to stop their corset boning from coming through.
We don’t have to just learn from our ancestors mistakes, we can learn from their stakes too
You’re all familiar with Armstreet, right?
They’re the folks that make this stuff:
Well, they’re a Ukrainian company.
You can read the latest news about how the war is affecting their company here.
You can donate here
They are also still taking orders, and while they’ve got a backlog, I’m sure they’d appreciate the business! Just be aware that it will probably take more time than usual for your order to arrive.
