And here is a final render
After first projection there are some holes and stretching on the geo. I had to prepare a couple of different camera projections in order to patch everythig that need some fixing
Of course it's also very important to keep your files clean and tidy
In Photoshop separately rendered geo I used as a guide for my matte paint elements
In Nuke I applied checkerboard to each individual geo in order to better define shapes in next the step - Photoshop
First I star with rough sketch of the terrain with distance points for scale. After that I went to Maya and created a basic shape of the terrain. Camera and geometry are now ready to be exported to Nuke
Levi Peterffy - Matte Painting Landscape from start to finish
Techniques I'm going to use I learned from this great tutorial
I really like this design so I decided to create a matte painting based on it
Switzerland PROJECT | DMP BREAKDOWN
Switzerland PROJECT | DMP
I think it came out pretty nice
And this a break down of my approach to this challenge
I found this pretty cool stock footage with cows (first pic from the top) and immediately reminded me this Milka add ⬆️ And I came with an idea for a challenge. I had to change this footage in a way that it would look like it's actually based in Switzerland (pretty come thin in movies).
A further exploration of the crash site scene. This time I decided to move a bit more south (from Arctic) to Iceland. I quite like it, may need some more tweaking (definitely crashed spaceships)
Another concept, this time a bit exotic one. Scene is based in Cambodia area.
Some other designs I could utilize in my scenes
And here are some designs of the werewolf already in 3D, made in Zbrush
