They’re watching a mystery movie at home when Ran suddenly comments on the plot.
"I think the doctor is the killer," she states, her face full of concentration. "Isn't he?" she asks Shinichi.
He stutters a couple of words. Actually, he hasn't been paying any attention to the movie. Instead, Shinichi's been focused on how closely they’re sitting, their intertwined fingers, and how good her hair smells.
"I-uh… I have no idea. I got distracted, sorry."
Ran is very surprised. He's always so into these movies...
Aaahh~ I’m pretty sure they had some weird dreams about each other at some point!~~ and I know Levi rarely sleeps in a bed, but excuse the artistic license! I wanted this mirror-like effect 😬
The water cascading over them creates a new start of their relationship; a new level of loving each other. At this moment Shinichi broke the lip lock, and now it is his turn to give Ran hickies. He latches to her neck like a vampire. The vacuum effect of his lips makes Ran scream out a moan she never made before. Shinichi moves his left leg up to be in between Ran’s legs. His thigh feels her own warmth, her own wetness. His thigh starts rubbing. That combined with the hickies makes Ran see stars.
“Ah! Ah! Shinichi!” she moans out. Shinichi keeps sucking her neck and rubbing her folds with his thigh. He feels his thigh getting wetter, not from the shower. He removes his leg and places his left hand on her wet pussy and massages, his thumb stroking her clit. Ran quivers her whole body in response. And when he places two fingers inside, she lets out another shattering moan. Shinichi takes a break from the hickies to catch his breath and to enjoy the look of ecstasy on Ran’s face. Her squinting from pleasure, her mouth gaunt, heavily huffing, creating a new mewling sound from each finger thrust.
“Ran…” Shinichi whispers heavily, as if he’s afraid that his desires will lead to everything crumbling before him, “may I…” his hands move toward her chest. Ran takes initiative and takes his hands to her. Both close their eyes to enjoy the ecstasy of this new level of intimacy. Shinichi, as if on instinct, starts massaging, each hand working one breast. A moan of pleasure escapes Ran’s lips, a moan that causes Shinichi’s love organ to twitch in response. His massaging intensifies. As he palms Ran’s breasts, his thumbs gently flick her nipples. Each movement quickens Ran’s breathing. This sensation, being putty in her boyfriend’s palms, is beautiful.
@otaku-108 made this amazing art of ShinRan for the Rain prompt of ShinrRanweek2026. I wrote a fic inspired by it, enjoy! You can also read it here on AO3!
To be separated from who you love dearly is torture unbearable. To then learn he’s been there the whole time in a form against his will is rage inducing. Then defeating those who imprisoned him in his own body is cathartic. Then to have him finally come home is elating. This is not a fairy tale of old, but the actual experience of one Ran Mouri. A Japanese high schooler and martial arts prodigy that for the longest time thought her boyfriend was away on a troublesome, tough case. While true, not in the way she expected. Shrunk to a grade schooler against his will, he’s been her friend Conan the whole time. At first she was hurt and betrayed, but after taking down those who oppressed him and dealt justice towards them, she began to understand. How he didn’t want to put her in danger, and how he was torn up inside from lying to her; being so close and yet so far. Heartfelt tears and confessions, and a sincere swearing of never lying again and never being away from her, led to a rebuilding of trust and a continuation of love. Ran yelled her heart out, and Shinichi took every blow, even the physical ones he insisted on. And now that is behind them, and soon Shinichi made up for lost time. Dates to malls and movies, weekend getaways, friend dates with Sonoko and Makoto, and Heiji and Kazuha; sometimes all of them together leading to great memories. But with the return to normalcy is the return to daily life; they are high schoolers and Shinichi has a lot of catching up to do. And that means a lot, and I mean a LOT, of schoolwork. To the point that Shinichi is coming to school early in the morning and staying late to make up and catch up. That means Ran isn’t able to spend any time with her boyfriend. Any time she does spend with him is in class, and helping him with schoolwork. There’s been no time for them to spend as a couple. What’s making it extra frustrating is that Ran and Shinichi are taking their relationship to the next level. On certain movie dates they’d sit in the back of the theater and enjoy each other’s company. Make out sessions are snuck in when they can, but Shinichi’s packed school schedule is making it impossible to go further. Making matters worse is Tokyo’s Metropolitan Police Department. When they learned their darling golden boy was back in town, Shinichi was inundated with requests for assistance with cases. The poor boy is run ragged; the police somewhat literally snatched him from a date with Ran to help with a case. She tagged along despite it, and it felt like old times they joked. Shinichi now tries to send cases to her father; they are formally now business partners as a way to apologize to both being Conan and being his daughter’s boyfriend. But still, Ran is not getting enough time with said boyfriend. It’s eating her up inside. To have him again, then having him away from her is tearing her apart.
“Daydreaming about your husband?” a familiar voice teases.
“Huh?” Ran says snapping out of her mental melancholic soliloquy.
“You have this wistful look upon your angelic face. And your eyes are boring into the back of Shinichi’s head.”
“Sorry Sonoko, I have a lot on my mind.” Shinichi is indeed the target of Ran’s longing eyes. He turned down the lunch invite and is sitting solo at his desk, writing with one hand while eating his bento with the other. A bento Ran made, and she can’t even enjoy him enjoying it properly. So close yet so far.
“I can imagine. With our mystery geek recently returned, and you guys take down a criminal organization, and he’s back to school like nothing happened. I mean sure, he seems nicer and we’ve gone on great group dates, but you’d think the guy would have some great change in demeanor. But you’d never know any of that stuff happened,” Sonoko continues prodding. Naturally she’s doing this to get a rise out of Shinichi who’s within earshot. But one he’s so engrossed in his work he doesn’t hear, and two Ran is not receiving it that way.
“Oh I know too well. You have no idea what he went through.”
“Does he honestly think he can leave you on the hook for nearly a year, and pick up from where you two left off?”
“Sonoko, he’s making up schoolwork-“
“No excuse! A husband should be grateful to be with his wife again! A few dates at some movies and theme parks and now back to being a high schooler. Puh-lease. At least Makoto makes up for it when we get the chance to be together. At least he’s not cheating on you. Can’t believe his mistress is not a woman or Holmes, but homework!” This causes a small laugh among classmates, but Ran is absolutely fuming.
“Shinichi would never cheat on me! Don’t you even joke about it!” Ran snaps as she stands up indignantly. The whole class is taken a back. None have seen Ran this angry before. Sonoko starts stammering.
“Ran- Ran, I’m sorry, you know I don’t mean it.”
“Thank you for apologizing, now excuse me, I need the restroom.” Ran starts walking out the classroom with a stern look, but when she passes Shinichi she sees his face. A pained, apologetic look, as if it’s his fault for her being upset, immediately breaks Ran. She starts crying as she enters the hallway.

At the end of the school day, Ran is at her locker changing her shoes. Rain is coming down hard, and she did not bring her jacket. At least she has an umbrella. As she closes her locker, she looks outside and sees the downpour.
“At least the weather matches my mood,” she whispers to herself.
“I hope I can brighten that mood,” says a beloved voice. Ran turns around to see Shinichi.
“Hello,” she greets monotone-ly. Shinichi can’t help but wince, familiar with that tone and matching mood.
“Sorry about earlier, I should’ve stepped in.”
“Not your fault, you know how Sonoko gets. She apologized at least, and she’ll probably apologize more this weekend by offering us a nice dinner, be it at her mansion or at a nice restaurant.” Ran starts making her way out into the rain, completely unaware that Shinichi is following her with his own umbrella.
“Yeah that’s Sonoko for you. Bratty with a heart of gold. Hopefully she’ll mellow out someday. Maybe we could arrange another double date with her and Makoto.”
“With how busy your schedule is, I doubt that’ll be anytime soon.”
“I’m doing it all so I don’t have to stay back a year, I want to graduate with you in the same class. I want to stay with you in the same class."
“And I want you to stay with me all the time.” Though frustrated, a tiny hint of pink enters Ran’s cheeks. Shinichi notices.
“Same here, plus I don’t want to call Sonoko senpai, I wouldn’t be able to handle it.” The mere image of that causes Ran to snort. “Nice to see that made you feel better,” says Shinichi.
“What would make me feel a lot better is you spending more time with-“ Ran stops walking, now aware that her boyfriend is walking next to her, right here and now in the pouring rain. She turns on her heel. “Shinichi, don’t you have more catch up work?”
“That’s why I worked through lunch. I’ve caught up on such a great deal that I have tonight and the weekend available. I noticed how much the absence was tearing at you, as it was at me, and I put in the extra effort to be free this weekend.”
“How did you-“
“I’m a detective, remember?”
“So that means you’re-“
“I’m all yours this weekend.” At that moment Shinichi smiles in a way Ran never noticed before. Not one that is cocky or prideful, confident or smug; a smile so pure of happiness and elation. It’s the most beautiful smile she’s ever seen. Shinichi is hers for the weekend, and he’s right here right now in front of her. Without thinking or realizing it, she drops her umbrella and leaps onto him. Shinichi instinctively catches her and welcomes her embrace. It’s like an eternity since they’ve last felt each other. The shared sensation is like drinking water when thirsty and dry. And it shows. To say they start kissing is an understatement. They start with needy, short pecks and kisses, and then morph to heated, long drawn out meetings of lips, then on to full out ravenous making out. Their tongues soon start meeting in each other's mouths, releasing tension that’s been building up ever since Shinichi came back. Sure, they’ve kissed up to this point, but nothing like this. This is what they’ve both been wanting for ages. Yes, they’re in public, and yes it’s pouring rain, but right now each other is the only thing that matters. Eventually they pull away huffing, catching their breaths before their mutual dizziness overwhelms them. Both teens cry tears of joy, although with the rain you’d never know. The drops from the sky drown out all other noise but the two lovebirds can hear each other.
“I’ve missed you so much Shinichi,” Ran breathlessly whispers, relief flowing through her after weeks of being torn up inside.
“I’ve missed you too Ran. So very much, I’ve missed you.” Shinichi is equally out of breath for the greatest kind of sensory overload. He looks up into Ran’s eyes, seeing the most beautiful girl in the world staring back. Ran is melting in his arms, enjoying being swept off her feet. The love of her life, holding up in his strong, secure arms; a sense of home that Ran hopes she enjoys for the rest of her life.
“I’m kinda dizzy,” Shinichi meeks out.
“Me, me too,” Ran replies, “I like it.”
“Me too,” Shinichi places Ran back on the ground. However, her legs aren’t ready, and she starts falling to her knees. Shinichi follows suit, never unhooking the hug the whole time and they land on the sidewalk. They’re still lost in each other’s eyes when a loud clap of thunder makes them aware of their situation.
“Ran, we’re soaked!” Shinichi looks at himself and Ran’s soaked-threw uniforms. Ran does the same, seeing both of their blue blazers now look like a deep, deep shade of navy blue.
“Yeah, yeah we are Shinichi!” Ran smiles. She starts to laugh, then Shinichi laughs. Both teens get lost in the ridiculousness of the rain that is still pouring down. And to each other, their laughs in the rain are the greatest sounds they’ve heard all week.
“Ran, my house isn’t too far,” Shinichi points down the street, with a stream of water dripping off his sleeve. To say they’re sopping wet is an understatement. “Do you want to come over and dry off?” Ran’s eyes widen ever so slightly at the suggestion. But she doesn’t hesitate.
“Yes Shinichi, I would love to.”

Aaahhh I love it so much when planets align and these wonderful kind of collabs happen! An author/artist feeling inspired by another author/artist that results in a certain amount of fangirling and a wonderful string of fic and art around a concept.
Thank you, @quite-a-character!
Now, that fic of yours had so much very interesting imagery. I’m posting a couple drawings I made right away… and some more might be on their way 🥰
The news of your passing hit hard. I think all of us who have followed Detective Conan since childhood feel that a part of Ran, of our beloved sweet girl, has gone with you. It will be bittersweet to see her from now on, speaking with a voice that is not yours.
I hope you can see her happy ending when it finally comes, wherever you are now.
Thank you for what you gave us, for making Ran… Ran.
