Passive Programming: A Tiger’s Pledge to Jaguars and Panthers
This pledge was created to motivate men to end violence against women. To make it a little more relevant to residents, I sprinkled in song titles of Chris Brown, an entertainer who’s past domestic violence has recently resurfaced in the media.
On Tuesday, November 1st, Brothers of the Suites, get together to discuss ending violence against women and how to create and maintain good relationships. Myself, Evan, Brooks, and Kevin created a successful social event, featuring wings and chilly made by our very own chef McCain lol. It was a great event and definitely opened the minds of many of the brothers who were in attendance.
On February 18th, 2012 I created a passive program, centered around ending violence against women, recently named H.E.R.O. The program highlights celebrities who were effected by domestic violence. It also highlights domestic violence statistic and places to get help on both Spelman and Morehouse Campus. This program has received a lot of attention from the female visitors who enter the suites. They are glad that the issue is being highlighted and many of them look forward to the next program.
Couple nights ago I got a knock on my door at 1am….I’m assuming it must be a lockout as per usual. instead it is a resident from around the corner with a paper in his hand. He explains to me that one of his scholarships never came through, and he had been evicted from housing. We sat and talked...
First Con Ed session.
“Things RAs Say”
the struggle
As many people may know, it is about that time of year when residents began to start making preparations for their housing for the next academic school year. With this, I decided to have a floor program to discuss returning to the suites for some residents. In addition, some residents decided to voice their opinions why they will not be returning back on campus. I heard complaints that ranged from housing is too expensive, and one resident even said that he did not like that fact that he could not throw a party in his own room. In all, I felt that this was a good program. Residents were engaged and they pretty much know where they will be staying next year. A majority of them will be returning to the suites.
Here’s a video of some of the guys in the suites playing Football. They begged me to play with them. I declined the offer lol.
To enhance the efficiency of getting things fixed with in the suites. This way the residence can skip the middle man and go straight to the source. Also this is important because this way the director can be informed about what is being fixed and what is broken in the buildings.
Program: Black Cinema Mania
In an effort to commemorate Black History Month, RA Daniel Primous and I hosted Black Cinema Mania on Feb.16. We explored the dynamics of black cinema and film through the lens of different dilemmas that plaque the black community. A successful program!
My first program of the year. Its a great way to start off the semester with advertisement and getting known around the building. The discussion will be about relationship expectations from a male perspective with a little touch of the females perspective.
