I sometimes fear I'll never have a "real" relationship, which I know is ridiculous, so I kind of wanted to talk it out and maybe get advice.

See, I'm a girl, I like girls, fine. But I've never been in a relationship and recently all my friends have been getting into their first serious relationships. I don't know why, maybe a lack of irl role models or bad depictions of women in media or insecurity maybe, but I feel like any relationship I have wouldn't be serious or mature, more like superficial. I don't want to date a man, but I don't know why I feel like this. I know rationally I'm capable of having "mature/complex" feelings and so do other women, and I know relationships don't need a man to be "real", but its an irrational fear, so how do I get over it?

I would really like some advice or maybe shared experiences? Or do you maybe know a more specific lesbian/sapphic blog where I could get it?

you could talk to people at @our-lesbian-experience or @our-sapphic-experience or one of those, but in my experience, you dont get learn things just by knowing them. rationally you know that it’s internalized lesbophobia, right, because you know wlw relationships can be anything other relationships can be. but until you have that experience or meet other queer people or get comfortable with your lesbian identity, unfortunately you just need to confront those thoughts until they fade away and one day you realize you dont have that insecurity anymore 🤷‍♂️

The 12th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 30th August 2025.

It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

I am literally fucking BEGGING you all to also acknowledge the racism behind the terms "non-man" and "non-woman" and how they're used in queer definitions.

Black and Indigenous queer people have literally been talking about this since the definition was COINED but there's literally NO acknowledgement of this when pointing out why "non-men loving non-men" and "non-women loving non-women" are shitty fucking definitions to force on a whole community.

"Nonman" and "nonwoman" are terms that have been historically used to describe the degendering of black people in society. And words can obviously be used to mean different things- we don't have to stop using these terms altogether. But forcing these terms on a whole community of queer people is really fucking antiblack.

Not to mention that it blatantly degenders a lot of 2S lesbians and gays as well. It basically tells them that they can't be 2S and as a lesbian or gay at the same time, because then they would be "contradictory." I seriously hope I don't have to explain how racist it is to exclude a large portion of Two-Spirit people from your queer label because they don't fit into your neat little white gender binary.

Like these definitions aren't bad to use for yourself personally- but stop forcing them on all lesbians/gays. And if you're advocating for why these shouldn't be used as the most prominent definition, PLEASE acknowledge the racism aspect of it.

so I have a friend (who we'll call S for the sake of privacy) who has super christian and homophobic parents. his oldest sibling's gay and non-binary, he's pan and trans, and his older sister (middle child; we'll call her B) claims to be straight.

B says she's straight. always has. however, S recently told me that B keeps saying that she thinks two girls in a relationship would be a lot better than a man and a woman, but it's "against the bible" or whatever.

S is pretty sure that B's a lesbian with internalized homophobia, or at the very least sapphic. I am also suspecting this, but I wanna see what the lesbians of Tumblr think based on the context.

imo that's very little information to go off of. While the "two women is better than a man and a woman" thing is a very gay-before-realizing thing, it's not great to speculate about someone's sexuality. i think regardless of her identity B seems to struggle with internalized homophobia that's preventing her from exploring her identity herself. if safe and possible, i'd recommend that you or someone else close to B try to help her deconstruct those ideas, although i know that's very hard, especially if they still live with their parents
