This is Chester. When I was in Afghanistan I got a care package from one of those “Adopt a Soldier” programs that lets families send care packages to service men and women who are deployed overseas. Anyway, I got this care package, and it came with the usual stuff: Baby wipes, crackers, peanut butter, the Dad threw in a pack of cigarettes, and there was some jerky. But there was also a little beanie baby gold fish and a hand written note from a 7 year old girl that said “Dear Soldier, (I wasn’t even mad) I hope you are doing well. I’m sorry you have to miss thanksgiving with your family. This is my friend Chester. He keeps me safe from monsters, but I think you need him more than I do. I hope he keeps you safe from the monsters you’re fighting. Take good care of him for me”.
You bet your ass that little fish was in my pocket every time I went on patrol.
A lil message inside his combat boots, for my husband to see everyday while in Afghanistan❤

A gathering of rules i’ve seen over the years. Not my photos.
Rule #16: Never give up ground you’ve already taken.
I wouldve gone all the way through 20 but it made the post longer than fuck
If you’ve got more please post them. These are things non service men and women might not know. And one day, second nature to me may be something that saves their life.
Thanks Battle
I’m going to expand on these a little bit.
Rule #1. On point Rule #2. Ammo is cheap, life is expensive. If you practice your marksmanship, you can save both. Rule #3. Not only hits count. Suppression counts. Accurate suppression. A bullet right next to someone’s head might not take it clean off, but it’ll put shit in his pants. Rule #4. Never move faster than you can accurately shoot. Rule #5. Moving away from your attacker is a good way to get shot in the back. Rule #6. On point. Rule #7. Ten days. Rule #8. If you’re reloading, communicating, and running, someone else ON YOUR SIDE better be shooting. Rule #9. On point. Rule #10. Be mindful of your ammo and they don’t get the chance to beat you to death. Rule #11. Fight honorably and even if you die, you’ll be remembered. Rule #12-13. Every plan goes out the window the moment the first shot is fired. Rule #14-16. On point. Rule #17. There is such thing as a speed reload. You don’t need to scan 360 if the gunfire’s coming from 12 o’clock. Rule #18-20. On point.
Rule #21. Not every fight is the same. Rule #22. There’s this thing called adrenaline, and as soon as you experience it, you probably won’t remember any of this shit.
