Backstory:

Nathan had always been married to his work. Perhaps it was due to the fact that his parents always favored work over family, handing him off to a nanny whenever they felt like it. Growing up, he'd proven his worth to his parents by working hard in school and succeeding outside of his studies. But eventually, his motivation turned intrinsic and he started working harder to prove his worth to *himself*.
