Seeing an African elephant in its natural habitat is one of the most beautiful things you’ll ever see. Weighing up to eight tons, elephants are the largest land animals on earth. Despite a ban on the international trade in ivory, African elephants are still being poached in large numbers (about 30.000 a year) 😔🐘 (bij Zambezi and Victoria Falls National Parks)

This is definitely one of my favorite lion photos. What would Africa be without these powerful predators? Lion populations have plunged by more than 43% in the last two decades. Today just 20,000 lions remain, occupying only 8% of their historical range. Major threats are human-lion conflict, bushmeat poaching, human encroachment, trophy hunting & lion poaching. As volunteers with @africanimpact we participate in Human-Wildlife Mitigation programs in rural communities to reduce the conflict. For example by setting up flashing lights ('Lion Lights') around a perimeter facing outwards; which are used to scare away lions. We also do snare sweep activities to prevent that lions and other animals get killed or injured by poacher’s snares. And these are only two examples of how we make our impact! 😌👍🏻 (bij Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe)

Meet The Big Tree! A huge Baobab which is about 22 metres in circumference and about 24 metres tall (1985)! It's possibly the oldest (2000 years) and biggest known Baobab in Zimbabwe. It's sometimes called Livingstone's tree because David Livingstone carved his name on it in 1855 when he 'discovered' the falls. The Big Tree is protected by Museums and National Monuments of Zimbabwe. With @africanimpact we do litter pick activities in this area to keep the environment clean. (bij Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe)

On the left side you are able to see the Victoria Falls Bridge (the bridge I jumped off). The Lookout Café is perched 120m above the turbulent rapids of the Zambezi River. 'Lala kuhle' boy! 😴 It means sleep well in Ndebele. It's the language of the Matabele / amaNdebele people of Zimbabwe and is spoken in Southern Africa. In school they learn English because that's the official language of Zimbabwe! (bij Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe)
