So that election. I haven't been around much but I had to say something: from the moment we decided to put Trump of all people up to bat, never in my wildest dreams did I think that not only would republicans win the presidency, but that they would win the house and senate as well. If Trump makes good on his promise to select pro-life politicians, the potential for the pro-life movement is incredible. The problems of the Republican Party aside, this is the most power we've been had since before Roe v Wade. I am not happy with Trump, but he's better than Hillatry, and our wins last night really have the potential to change this nation for the better. Pray for America, guys.

Question for people who think abortion should be illegal because it’s murder, shouldn’t under your though it also be illegal for seed to ever be spilled if not for the point of making a baby? Should folks who have sperm and can ejaculate never be allowed to masturbate because those sperm are babies? I mean what if one of those sperm grows up to find the cure for cancer? World peace? HIV cure?

Logic behind "Pro-Lifers"

You care for a clump of cells but not the starving child. You care for a clump of cells but not traumatized 13 y/o rape victim. You care for a clump of cells but not the living, breathing people involved.

You want a say in controlling another life.

You call it murder. You say it’s not the mother place to choose. The clump of cells doesn’t have a voice. So therefore it’s you, the bystanders choice.

You call it murder. You say victim doesn’t have a voice.

Neither does the meat on your plate.

Neither did the animals you pay someone to raise (without compassion) and slaughter.

Neither does the animals involved in cosmetics and other tastings.

One thing that really gets me about today’s society is how emotional/psychological child abuse is normalized and even celebrated.

I’ve noticed a phenomenon of parents getting together and talking about how they’re such a Mean Mom or Mean Dad and how they’re raising their children to be respectful. They talk about destroying their children’s possessions, isolating them, humiliating them, and/or publicly shaming them.

And when these people hear about, say, a parent smashing a kid’s phone for not cleaning their room or burning their possessions or filming a punishment or embarrassing moment and putting it up on social media, they commend the parents for “teaching the kids a lesson”.

Why the fuck do we, as a society, think this is okay?

It doesn’t teach kids valuable life lessons, it teaches them to be scared of repercussions. It’s bullying and child abuse and for some reason, people think that’s commendable.

Whenever I hear people saying “haha I bet that 14 year old learned a lesson”, it instantly makes me suspicious of them. I will instantly think of you as either a potential child abuser or a child abuse enabler.

As a survivor of psychological abuse, people dismissing this behavior as “harmless life lessons” makes me wonder if it really was abuse. If I deserved it. If I really deserved to have my pet’s life threatened because I was a liar.

It’s not cute. It’s not “good parenting”. It’s intimidating, shaming, and traumatizing your child into compliance.

This is the same shit as back when physical child abuse was accepted. People can’t legally whip their kids anymore so they’re turning to the next best way to abuse them. Verbally/mentally/emotionally. Abuse hasn’t left parenting, its just changed forms.

My mom has always been pretty emotionally abusive to my sisters, my dad, and i and I’ve always been the only one to speak out about it. Last year I had a conversation with my dad about how we need to stand up to her to promote change because this behavior was not okay and he told me that no family is perfect and all families struggle and I couldn’t believe that he was justifying her behavior but then I realized that it has become so normalized in our society that some people feel powerless to try to change it.

Also, seeing as many, many biologists are and were pro-life (many were actually clergy, lol), if anything I think it’s far more important to respect life and be a biologist. Why study life if you deny it to someone else?

Have any of you guys ever done anything like the 40 Days of Prayer movement thing? Where you do a prayer vigil in front of Planned Parenthood? My parish and some other protestant churches are doing it and I want to sign up for a slot but I don’t really know what to expect? I just feel like it’s something I want to get involved in.

I totally agree that all humans deserve equal rights, even fetuses!! That's why abortion should be legal. The fetus doesn't have the right to use someone's body against their consent, because NO HUMAN HAS THAT RIGHT. If a 5 year old kid needs a kidney transplant and the only viable donor available is the mother, would it be legal to force her to donate a kidney against her will? No, of course not. Why give more rights to fetuses than any other human being?

If you’ve already donated a kidney to a 5-year-old and decide you want it back are you going to kill the 5-year-old to get it?

Because in pregnancy, the ‘kidney’ has been donated already. Sure, you can ‘revoke consent’, but when revoking consent involves ending the life of another person it’s wrong.

CPCs claim to help by giving women info on ALL options but if CPCs really want women to make a FULLY informed choice then CPCs also need to give info on the complications & injuries that can arise from pregnancy and birth. CPCs need to inform women of the depression and suicide risk that postpartum women face. They need to inform women that "open adoption" agreements aren't always respected. Women deserve to know the risk of EVERY choice. That's the only way they can make an informed decision.

Yes

I don’t judge it too much, aside from it breaking the whole consistent life ethic thing if they’re Catholic, because the death penalty involves ending the life of someone who has ended the lives of others. Abortion is the taking of an entirely innocent life.

Most other mothers I talk to feel stronger pro choice after going through motherhood themselves, I can't really see how this since I was excited and treated my baby like a human since the positive test. I would do anything for her, it may be the most difficult responsibility but we chose this to happen and we embraced it.

That’s interesting! Maybe we hang around different crowds of people? All of the mothers I know are pro-life.

I just have to say on the subject of circumcision.... it's not a procedure done to kill the baby so I don't see how it's comparable I get that it's his body yes but we parents do all sorts of things for what we believe benefits them. Example vaccinations we shouldn't stop giving them just because they don't have a choice. You can say that about any medical procedure given at a young age without convent really it's not at all linked to death that often. Abortion is 100% death outcome

Maybe circumcision isn’t as bad, but the thing is it’s usually not done for health benefits. The main logical argument is that the foreskin can become infected if it’s not washed properly but this is easily prevented with proper washing.

The main not-so-logical argument is that it ‘looks cleaner’. To me it’s kind of like people who pierce their baby girls’ ears because they ‘look pretty’, but so much worse because it involves actual genital mutilation.

Both circumcision and abortion (in my opinion) stem from the same general idea that our children are almost like property and we can permanently change their bodies (or in the case of abortion, kill them) for purely aesthetic reasons.  Maybe mutilating genitalia isn’t as bad as killing someone, but it’s not much better.

Just deliver the baby by c/section and the baby has 95+% survival with readily available NICU care even at 28 weeks. If you are anti-choice you are a piece of shit. No one is entitled to use another’s body for their benefit which is exactly what the fetus is doing. We don’t even allow people to use organs of a dead person who didn’t consent to organ donating when alive. Even if a person will die without organ donation. Anti-choicers want to give a pregnant person less rights than a corpse.

First of all: denying organ donations are denying someone access to begin with. Abortion is killing someone who has already gained access. If someone were to magically get hold of someone else’s kidney through no fault of their own, would that person be allowed to shoot the other one in the head?

Except you can change your mind with organ donation. The main difference is that they are inside and basically using her body. Also abortion is not the same as shooting in the head for obtaining the organ. The fetus lives in the mother and impacts the health of the mother. Abortion is merely deciding to stop the fetus from using her body. Calling abortion murder is silly and wrong. If someone is taking nutrients and basically living off your body withdrawing that is not murder.

Not after the donation has already taken place. In pregnancy, the 'organ’ has already been donated; but unlike an organ donation, there’ a 9 month waiting period before she can get it back.

Abortion is physically ending the life of another human being. Stopping the use of the body is using birth control and preventing fertilization. Abortion is killing someone after the fact.
