We had a big to do in Santa Ana, CA, yesterday as Shaun King and Michael Lighty came to help open the Bernie 2020 OC Campaign Office. Volunteers explored the new office and listened to inspiring speeches about Medicare For All, Criminal Justice Reform, and Volunteering because our lives depend on it.
It was a great evening with inspired volunteers and amazing speakers.

We will resume our regular chapter meetings on January 19, 2020. The topic will be what’s on the ballot.
California ballots will arrive in the mail in early February and our primary is on March 3, 2020. If you register as a Democrat or select the Democratic ballot as a No Party Preference voter, you will have the opportunity to vote for members to represent you at the Democratic Party of Orange County Central Committee. Find out who is running in your district (including our Chapter Leader Jenna Beck who is running in AD-73).

At yesterday's chapter meeting, we recapped #CADEM19 with Assembly Delegate Sudi Farokhnia and heard from Shankar Singam, Executive Director of the Independent California Institute, about organizing against ICE. #NotMeUs #AbolishICE
Bernie Sanders made big waves at The CDP 2019 Fall Endorsing Convention this weekend at the Long Beach Convention Center. He was endorsed by the California Young Democrats, received massive cheers during the presidential forum, and rock star treatment when caucus hopping. This is on top of a huge rally in East LA and a successful canvassing event hosted by Jeffrey Weaver and Ironstash Randy Bryce.
Did you see Bernie this weekend? Here are some pictures captured by our co-founder, Jenna Beck, Community Organizer and Activist

On September 22, we had a great chapter meeting discussing PDA actions, community choice energy, and the importance of advancing the impeachment inquiry. A big thanks to our guest speakers.
Prior to Speaker Nancy Pelosi accouncing that Congress would move forward with the impeachment inquiry, Rich Procida discussed the importance of an impeachment inquiry at our chapter meeting.
Procida is an author, attorney, and activist who writes about religion and politics for LAProgressive.com and ModernLectionaries.blogspot.com. He also produces a podcast called "Bible Study for Progressives" and is a national leader with By the People, a group that is part of a coalition of groups, which include Progressive Democrats of America, Indivisible, and Move On, that is working to pressure Congress to begin formal impeachment proceedings against President Trump. He will address Democratic, liberal, and progressive objections to moving forward with impeachment now at this time in history before it is too late.

José Trinidad Castañeda III, candidate for Fullerton City Council and organizer for the Sunrise Movement, spoke with us about Community Choice Energy and current efforts to lobby Orange County City Councils. José is the ProAgua Coordinator at the William C. Velasquez Institute in Los Angeles, where he engages with Latinx and Indigenous communities to promote civic engagement, social and economic justice, as well as sustainable policies. Due to his extensive knowledge on climate action, José played a significant role in the creation of the Los Angeles County Sustainability Master Plan.

Join us for an evening of social advocacy and education about Medicare for All, led by the one and only Dr. Bill Honigman, National Director with PDA. Please feel welcome to bring your beverage of choice (soft drinks and water will be available), and please consider bringing a side dish. And we want to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to our Honorable U.S. House Representative Harley Rouda to join us and connect with the community for this very important conversation.
Thank you to everyone who attended our inaugural chapter meeting and a special thanks to our speakers Jackson Hinkle and Lauren Johnson-Norris. We got some great action items from the group and look...
We held our inaugural chapter meeting in Mission Viejo, CA yesterday with great guest speakers, Jackson Hinkle and Lauren Johnson-Norris.
Jackson ran for San Clemente City Council in the last cycle and is an environmental advocate who is fighting for the safe removal of the nuclear waste at San Onofre State beach. You may have seen him surfing with Tulsi Gabbard a few weeks back. He’s also part of the Sunrise Movement and was arrested outside of Nancy Pelosi’s DC office, but is also ON Nancy Pelosi’s Youth Council. Talk about a local rock star!
Lauren is running for Irvine City Council and just went through a few weeks of advocating for a special election. Unfortunately, one of our Dems decided to vote with the Republicans and appointed another Republican to the open seat. We will continue to follow and support Lauren’s run for city council.
Did you miss our meeting but want to come next time?
Join us on June 23, 2019, for these great speakers:
* Ada Briceño, Co-President Unite Here Local 11 and Chair of the Democratic Party of Orange County will speak about voter registration efforts to help flip more seats. * Scott Rhinehart For Assembly candidate for Assembly Representative in AD-73 will speak about his candidacy and how you can help a progressive win. * Debra Lewis for Dana Point City Council, current Dana Point City Council member and former Mayor will discuss local issues with the toll road and TCA.
